After some time, Tang San slowly opened his eyes. Yu Xiaogang and the others immediately gathered around him upon seeing he was awake.
Yu Xiaogang asked urgently, "Xiao San, how do you feel? How did you end up being attacked by Shi Nian from Canghui Academy?"
Tang San shook his slightly dizzy head and replied, "I'm not entirely sure. Shi Nian said that Shrek Academy had somehow offended his students before, and he wanted to kill us, starting with me. Luckily, Father showed up in time; otherwise, I might not be here now. By the way, where is Father?"
At this moment, Tang Hao walked over, speaking coldly, "Xiao San, why didn't you return with the others after the competition but instead wandered around the city on your own? If I hadn't been watching over you from the shadows, you'd be dead now."
Tang San looked embarrassed. He had only been seeking a way to improve his strength more quickly and hadn't expected to run into Shi Nian.
But how could he explain this to his father and teacher?
After a moment of silence, Tang San realized his father had been protecting him all along. He knew he owed them an explanation.
Glancing over at Dai Mubai and the others, Tang San gave a subtle look, and Dai Mubai and Oscar got the hint, said a quick farewell, and left.
The two understood that Tang San had secrets he couldn't yet share, but they trusted he would speak when ready.
Now, with only Yu Xiaogang and Tang Hao in the room, Tang San finally spoke, "Teacher, Father, I wasn't just wandering aimlessly; I had a purpose."
Yu Xiaogang looked puzzled. "Xiao San, what purpose could you have? Wandering around like that wouldn't help you improve your strength, would it?"
Tang San nodded. "Yes, Teacher. It actually does help improve my strength."
Yu Xiaogang and Tang Hao both looked incredulous. How could that be possible?
But they knew Tang San wouldn't speak without reason.
Tang San explained, "Over the past few days, I discovered that my Blue Silver Grass spirit seems to have mutated, developing a devouring ability."
Yu Xiaogang's eyes lit up. "Xiao San, are you saying that your Blue Silver Grass can now absorb others' spirit power to enhance your own?"
Tang Hao frowned. "Xiao San, are you sure there are no harmful side effects? Spirits with devouring abilities do exist on the continent, but most of them belong to Evil Spirit Masters who gain them through dark arts. They can quickly increase power but often come with severe side effects. Are you sure...?"
Tang Hao was primarily concerned about potential negative effects on Tang San, showing no sympathy for those whose spirit power he might absorb.
Tang San quickly reassured him. "There's no harm, Father. So far, I haven't experienced any adverse effects. Also, my Blue Silver Grass doesn't just absorb spirit power; it can also absorb the properties of others' spirits. Now, it has acquired basic resistance to lightning, water, and fire!"
Both men were truly stunned. They hadn't expected such a transformation in Tang San's Blue Silver Grass. As long as there were no side effects, this change could only benefit Tang San.
Holding back his excitement, Yu Xiaogang asked, "So, if you continue to devour others' powers, not only will your strength increase rapidly, but your Blue Silver Grass will gain more resistances as well? The more you absorb, the stronger the resistance?"
Tang San smiled and nodded. "Yes, but I have to be discreet, absorbing only a little at a time. If I absorb too much from one person, they might lose so much spirit power and energy that they… disappear. That's why I've been moving around the city."
"Right now, with the Spirit Master Tournament happening, most people in the city have spirit power, so even though I only take a little from each person, it adds up and helps me improve significantly."
Tang Hao nodded, showing no concern for any negative effects on others as long as it benefited his son.
Though Yu Xiaogang thought this approach was a bit questionable, he said nothing. With this newfound ability, Tang San's cultivation could likely progress rapidly over the next month.
With the Heaven Dou Academy's first team not participating in the preliminary and qualifying matches, Tang San would have ample time to prepare.
Once Tang San's Blue Silver Grass had reached a certain level, Yu Xiaogang knew they would have to add spirit rings to his Clear Sky Hammer. Historically, Bibi Dong was the only known Spirit Master to master the challenges of cultivating twin spirits; others had perished due to internal conflicts between their spirits or sheer physical strain.
He decided he would seek Bibi Dong in Spirit Hall. After all, despite their history, she still harbored feelings for him.
He, Yu Xiaogang, was confident of that!
Meanwhile, Tang Hao retrieved a spirit bone from his spatial device, along with Shi Nian's lifeless body, laying it aside.
Tang San and Yu Xiaogang were stunned momentarily before their eyes lit up at the sight of the spirit bone.
Tang Hao explained, "This bone came from Shi Nian. Xiao San, it's yours. It might not suit you perfectly, but you can keep it and maybe trade it for something more fitting later on."
With that, he tossed both the head bone and Shi Nian's spatial device to Tang San.
Tang San eagerly took both items. This spirit bone was at least ten thousand years old! Though it seemed to be illusion-based and not particularly suited to his own spirits, his Purple Demon Eye could make use of it. He hoped to eventually find a spirit bone that would enhance his mental power and perhaps even integrate with his Purple Demon Eye.
Stowing away the two items, Tang San turned his attention to Shi Nian's body. Since Shi Nian had only recently died, his attributes and spirit power remained intact, and he wondered if they might serve as nourishment for his abilities.
Regardless, Tang San decided to give it a try—anything that benefited him was worth considering.
