Bab 16: Goblins den (4)

As Alypos and Nibbles stepped away from the altar, the echoes of their battle lingered in the air, a testament to their hard-fought victory. The spatial ring gleamed in the dim light of the dungeon, its surface smooth and cool to the touch. Alypos turned it over in his palm, marveling at its intricacy.

"Let's see what this thing can do," he said, excitement bubbling within him. The ring had the potential to change the way he managed resources, allowing him to store precious items without the burden of carrying them physically.

Nibbles jumped up onto Alypos's shoulder, his tiny paws gripping the fabric of his tunic as he peered curiously at the ring. Alypos smirked at the sight, finding humor in the squirrel's intense focus. "Don't worry, buddy. I'm not going to store you in there."

With a determined nod, Alypos slid the ring onto his finger. As soon as it settled into place, he felt a sudden surge of energy, a connection forming between him and the ring. He focused on the first item he wanted to store—a goblin core that he had claimed from the fallen creatures earlier.

"Store this," he commanded, envisioning the core being absorbed into the ring. To his amazement, the core shimmered momentarily before vanishing from his hand, as if it had been consumed by an unseen force.

"Whoa!" he exclaimed, glancing at Nibbles, who was now wide-eyed, his little tail flicking back and forth in excitement. "I think we just found ourselves a treasure vault!"

Alypos quickly began to test the limits of the spatial ring. One by one, he stored the cores he had collected from the goblins, marveling at the way they vanished into the ring. He also decided to add the gold coins he had scavenged, the glint of the metal promising untold riches. Each coin disappeared into the void of the ring, leaving no trace behind.

"Look at this, Nibbles! We're going to be rich!" he said, grinning widely. Nibbles, ever the schemer, gestured as if counting their wealth, his eyes sparkling with ambition.

After securing a few more items, Alypos felt a sense of satisfaction wash over him. The weight of his burden had lightened significantly, and now he could move freely, ready to face whatever lay ahead.

"Let's keep exploring," he said, determination etched on his features. The dungeon was vast, and he could sense that there were still secrets hidden within its depths.

As they ventured deeper, the atmosphere shifted again, becoming more oppressive. The air grew colder, and the distant sounds of chattering goblins filled the passageways. Alypos steeled himself, remembering the Hell Viewing skill he had acquired. He could use it again if necessary, but he hoped it wouldn't come to that.

The narrow corridors twisted and turned, leading them to a large chamber filled with goblins gathered around a flickering fire. They seemed to be engaged in some form of ritual, their guttural chants echoing off the stone walls. Alypos crouched low, gesturing for Nibbles to follow suit.

"Let's see what they're up to," he whispered, his voice barely above a murmur.

From their vantage point, Alypos could make out the details of the goblins' gathering. They were dancing around a crude altar, adorned with crude carvings and the remnants of their sacrifices—bones and other offerings littering the ground. At the center of the chaos stood another Shaman, even more grotesque than the last, its eyes glowing ominously in the dim light.

Alypos felt a surge of anger. The goblins were still performing their dark rituals, and he couldn't let that continue. "We can't allow them to get any stronger. We need to stop this now," he said, his voice steely.

Nibbles nodded, his eyes wide with determination, clearly understanding the gravity of the situation. Alypos steadied his breath, summoning his resolve. The last Shaman had fallen, but this one would be different.

"I'll distract them, and you create chaos," he instructed Nibbles, his mind racing with strategy. The squirrel's eyes gleamed with mischief as he mimicked an exaggerated nod, ready for action.

With a swift motion, Alypos charged into the fray, his spear glinting in the firelight. The goblins turned, shock etched on their faces as he lunged toward them. "Get away from that altar!" he shouted, thrusting his spear with practiced precision, taking down the first goblin before it could react.

Nibbles darted in behind him, creating distractions and drawing attention away from Alypos. The little squirrel dashed around, knocking over goblins and throwing debris, much to Alypos's amusement. It was a chaotic scene, and he couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of Nibbles leaping from goblin to goblin, causing confusion.

"Who knew you'd make such a good distraction?" Alypos shouted as he dispatched another goblin. The little squirrel paused mid-air, giving a mock bow as if to accept the compliment, which only spurred Alypos on.

But the Shaman was quick to recover, its voice rising above the chaos as it summoned dark energy, readying a spell. Alypos felt the air around him thicken, and he knew he had to act fast.

"Hell Viewing!" he shouted, channeling the skill once more. Shadows swirled around the Shaman, and visions of despair filled the air, drowning out its chants. The creature faltered, its face twisting in horror as it was forced to confront the pain of the world it had wrought.

With the Shaman distracted, Alypos lunged forward, his spear striking true. He felt the impact reverberate through him as he dispatched the creature, and a sense of exhilaration flooded him.

As the last goblin fell, Alypos stood amidst the wreckage, panting heavily. He could feel the power of the dungeon seeping into him, a heady mix of adrenaline and triumph.

Nibbles scampered up to him, doing a little victory dance, his tiny form bouncing with glee. "We did it, Nibbles! Another Shaman down!" Alypos exclaimed, pride swelling within him.

Just as he began to catch his breath, the spatial ring on his finger pulsed with energy. He instinctively checked it, only to find it had absorbed the remnants of the Shaman's essence.

Item Acquired: Goblin Shaman's Essence

A source of dark energy that can be used to enhance skills or create potions. Use with caution.

"What do you think? Should we save this for later?" Alypos asked, raising an eyebrow at Nibbles, who nodded vigorously, clearly eager for the treasures still to come.

With renewed determination, they began to search the chamber for anything of value. Goblin treasures littered the ground—gold coins, crude artifacts, and strange trinkets. Alypos quickly stashed them in his ring, feeling the weight of each piece as he secured it for future use.

As they prepared to leave, Alypos felt a strange pull towards a corner of the chamber. There, hidden beneath a pile of bones, lay a strange object—a dark crystal, pulsating with an eerie light.

"What do you think, Nibbles? Should we take a look?" he asked, curiosity bubbling within him. The squirrel cocked his head, a gesture of both caution and intrigue.

Alypos reached down, his fingers brushing against the surface of the crystal. A jolt of energy coursed through him, and he felt an immediate connection. "This could be something powerful… or dangerous," he murmured, lifting it carefully.

With the crystal in hand, Alypos knew they had to move quickly. The deeper they ventured into the dungeon, the more perilous their situation would become.

"Let's get out of here and see what treasures await us in the next chamber," he said, turning toward the exit.

As they slipped back into the shadows of the tunnel, a sense of anticipation hung in the air. The dungeon was full of secrets waiting to be uncovered, and with Nibbles at his side, Alypos felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
