Harry shrugged, prompting Snape to press further, "And where would you look if I asked you to find me a bezoar?" Hermione's hand shot up again, along with Gray's, causing the two of them to look at each other, but Harry replied, "I don't know, sir." Snape's disappointment was palpable as he continued, "And what is the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane?" Harry replied, "I don't know, sir." Snape, with a smirk, said, "Pity. Clearly, fame isn't everything, is it, Mr. Potter?" Hermione looked surprised as laughter rippled through the room while Gray sighed, "Huh, guess Snape has something against Potter," but it was none of his business—he was here to learn potion-making. Snape then leaned in closer, explaining, "For your information, Potter, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion known as the Draught of Living Death," which Gray started to jot down, earning a glance from Snape, who continued speaking.

Chapter 3
He detailed the properties of a bezoar and the fact that monkshood and wolfsbane were the same plant, before finally snapping, "Well? Why aren't you all copying this down? Is Mr. Knight the only one here to learn potioneering?" The students immediately began writing, while Snape noted, "And Gryffindors, note that five points will be taken from your house... for your classmate's cheek." The tension in the room settled as Hermione looked at Harry, who glanced back at Snape before resuming his notes.

Later, in the Great Hall, students were busy with their homework, and Seamus attempted a spell on a cup of water, saying, "Eye of rabbit, harp string hum. Turn this water into rum." Ron explained to Harry, "Turn it into rum. Actually managed a weak tea yesterday, before—" but was interrupted by a sudden explosion as Seamus's cup detonated, leaving him charred and the other students laughing. Hermione waved away the smoke with her hand, and Ron exclaimed, "Ah. Mail's here!" Owls swooped in, delivering parcels, and Gray did receive a parcel. "Guess the deliveries are fast; I just ordered it this morning, but it's to be expected from a magical world," he thought as he opened it. Inside the parcel were Ashwinder eggs and a squill bulb. "With this, I should be able to make a liquid luck potion," he thought.
The moment he sat on his bed last night, Gray had read all the materials related to potions and herbology, which showed a potion recipe that actually increased the consumer's luck. Of course, it was difficult to brew, disastrous even, and it required six months of preparation, but it did increase luck. For someone who had a 50% chance to fail and a 1% chance to get a potion with a permanent enhancement, this was going to be a staple for him. "I just have to take it in small doses since it's toxic in large quantities, and I can't partake in any sports competitions, but I'm not here to play," he told himself as he then read the other papers he received. That's when he heard a conversation despite the table's loud chattering. Spotting the newspaper Ron had put down, Harry asked, "Can I borrow this?" Ron nodded, and Harry began reading an alarming article.
"Hey, Ron! Somebody broke into Gringotts. Listen," he said, reading aloud, "Believed to be the work of dark witches or wizards unknown, Gringotts goblins, while acknowledging the breach, insist that nothing was taken." As he continued, he discovered that the vault in question, number 713, had been emptied earlier that same day. "That's odd. That's the vault Hagrid and I went to," he concluded, sharing a look of concern with Ron. Gray then got up to wander the school halls. He was looking for a specific place, not just any place, but somewhere to practice his potion-making. Since students are required to buy their own practice equipment like cauldrons and flasks, he had all he needed to start practicing, aside from small ingredients, which he could try to get from the Herbology teacher if she would give them to him.
-scene change-
That afternoon, outside the castle, the Gryffindor and Slytherin students lined up for their first flying lesson with Madam Hooch. "Good afternoon, class," she said, and the students responded, "Good afternoon, Madam Hooch." She instructed them to step to the left side of their brooms and say, "Up." Gray's broom started to shake for a second before flying up to him. "Hmm," he pondered for a second before looking at the student beside him, who was the boy who lived. Harry's broom flew into his hand immediately, and he looked amazed, saying, "Wow!" making Gray sigh as he thought, "Looks like my magic needs improvement." This didn't make him lose hope; in fact, it only pushed his drive to grow stronger and level up his potion creation skill. Draco followed with his own "Up!" and grinned smugly as his broom responded. Meanwhile, Ron struggled, shouting, "Up!" repeatedly until his broom shot up and smacked him in the face, causing him to shout, "Ooh!" and Harry to laugh. "Shut up, Harry," Ron grumbled, but then began laughing himself.
Madam Hooch instructed the students to mount their brooms and hold on tight, preparing to kick off at her whistle. As she blew the whistle, Neville's broom unexpectedly lifted him off the ground. "Oh..." Neville muttered in panic, and Madam Hooch called out, "Mr. Longbottom!" As Neville soared higher, the students shouted, "Neville... Neville..." and a boy reminded them, "We're not supposed to take off yet." Neville screamed, "AHH!" as his broom took him on a wild ride. Madam Hooch yelled, "Come back down this instant!" but Neville continued to fly uncontrollably, smashing into a wall and then zooming back toward the students, who ducked out of the way as he flew past. Neville's cloak caught on a statue, flipping him off the broom, and he dangled for a moment before falling hard to the ground. "Ow!" he groaned in pain.
Madam Hooch rushed to Neville's side, checking him over and declaring, "It's a broken wrist. Poor boy. Come on now, up you get." As she helped Neville to his feet, Draco picked up Neville's Remembrall. Madam Hooch warned the rest of the class, "Everyone's to keep their feet firmly on the ground while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. If I see a single broom in the air, the one riding it will be out of Hogwarts before they can say Quidditch." As she led Neville away, Draco sneered, "Did you see his face? Maybe if the fat lump had given this a squeeze, he'd have remembered to fall on his fat arse!" He and his friends laughed. "Kids," Gray thought as he tuned out the entire upcoming bravado, which went a little like this: Harry stepped forward, demanding, "Give it here, Malfoy." Draco, unfazed, replied, "No. I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find." He mounted his broom and soared into the air, taunting, "How about on the roof? What's the matter, Potter? Bit beyond your reach?"
Ignoring Hermione's protests, "Harry, no way! You heard what Madam Hooch said. Besides, you don't even know how to fly!" Harry mounted his broom and flew up after Draco. Hermione, exasperated, muttered, "What an idiot." In the air, Harry confronted Draco again. "Give it here, Malfoy, or I'll knock you off your broom!" Draco smirked, "Is that so?" and hurled the Remembrall high into the air. Harry shot after it, zooming toward the castle, narrowly avoiding crashing into a tower as he caught the Remembrall just in time. The students cheered as Harry landed smoothly back on the ground. "Nice going, Harry!" one boy shouted, while another added, "Oh, that was wicked, Harry!"

A/N i know most of the things that happened in the last chapter and in this chapter are exactly what happened in the movies but come on, what did you expect Gray to do, answer snape's question instead of Harry or stand up for the idiot for fell out of his broom. anyways, it's gray first day, and of course, he isn't going to make big slashes yet.
