Bab 51: Restart, Spider-Man! [51]
The colossal beast let out a deafening roar, seemingly defying the laws of physics as it slowly ascended into the sky. On the ground, an endless wave of Chitauri giant apes surged forward, their wild energy spreading across the battlefield. Behind them, Infinite Tony's nanotech suit activated, its back opening like the petals of a blossoming flower.
"Cap, I need your help," Tony called over his shoulder.
"No problem, I'm always here."
Old Steve Rogers gripped his shield in one hand and Mjolnir in the other, channeling a terrifying surge of lightning through his body—Captain Thunder!
"Boom!"
A deafening clap of thunder echoed as high-voltage currents flowed into Tony's suit, supercharging it with immense energy. The nanotech suit reached full power, and beams of lasers erupted from it, bombarding the ground before them.
"Boom!"
A sea of fire engulfed the battlefield, the two of them finding a rhythm that mirrored their teamwork from years past. But soon, the nanotech suit began to flicker, the lasers weakening.
"Sir, the armor is being affected by abnormal magnetic fields. Power levels have dropped to 30%. Flight system stability is down to 15%. Immediate landing is advised," Friday warned.
Tony's suit wobbled in mid-air, forcing him to awkwardly descend to the ground.
"No wonder Thanos didn't bring any high-tech weapons—this planet's magnetic field is interfering with everything," he thought to himself.
While the flight systems were compromised, the weapons still functioned, albeit at a reduced capacity. He could manage, but it wasn't ideal for extended combat.
Behind him, Lizard Parker and Carter charged through the battlefield, wielding shields as they tore into the Chitauri apes.
Lizard Parker was finally beginning to appreciate the benefits of a shield, though he still couldn't forget the time it had hit him in the face. Meanwhile, Carter's true capabilities were revealed to the group—she was Captain Carter, having been injected with the Super Soldier Serum.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Her five-pointed shield ricocheted between targets, sparking and flashing as it tore through the apes, returning to her hand with precision. Lizard Parker watched in envy, as his clumsy efforts left him using the shield more like a giant cleaver.
On the other side of the battlefield, Xia Luo swung from giant bones, his webs slicing through the Chitauri beasts with ease. Shield in hand, he divided the attacking apes, working with the others to protect Thanos.
Of course, Thanos didn't need much protection. Wielding his massive double-bladed sword, he tore through the battlefield like a bulldozer, beheading ape after ape with raw power. Although not yet at his peak strength, young Thanos already possessed nearly 100 tons of brute force. His skin was so tough that even the sharp teeth of the apes couldn't leave a mark.
The task of protecting Thanos seemed like a joke.
"Roaar!"
At that moment, a Leviathan, towering over 30 meters tall, let out a roar as it zeroed in on Thanos, driven by its instinct to target the Titan bloodline.
"Let's take that big one down first," Xia Luo shouted before launching a web and swinging into the air.
"Got it!"
Old Steve took advantage of the moment, hurling Mjolnir with all his might.
"Catch this!"
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Mjolnir smashed through the Chitauri apes in its path, heading straight toward Xia Luo, who instinctively caught the handle mid-air.
Xia Luo: "..."
Why did I catch this thing?
In an instant, Xia Luo found himself being yanked by the hammer's immense power, flying uncontrollably in a wide arc through the air.
"Boom!"
Mjolnir hit the ground with a thunderous crash, taking down a whole swath of apes with it.
"What are you doing catching it?" Old Steve yelled, his face darkening.
"You told me to!" Xia Luo retorted, dropping the hammer and flinging his shield at the apes.
"Sorry, I didn't get what you meant," he added, embarrassed.
There was no time for further explanations as more savage apes charged. Old Steve quickly grabbed his cracked Mjolnir and raised his shield again.
"Boom!"
With a violent throw, lightning surged, and Mjolnir shattered into a shower of sparks, obliterating the enemies in its path.
"Broken hammer works even better!" Old Steve exclaimed with satisfaction.
Xia Luo launched another web, swinging back toward the Leviathan. "Let's do that again!"
"Got it!"
Old Steve summoned the broken pieces of Mjolnir, and as they reformed, he caught Xia Luo's web mid-air.
"Whoosh~~"
With Xia Luo's enhanced strength, Old Steve was hurled onto the back of the Leviathan, where he immediately slammed Mjolnir into the beast's spine.
"Roaar!!"
The Leviathan let out an agonizing wail as Mjolnir, now as heavy as a planet, pinned it down, crushing its body with ease.
"Boom~~"
The massive creature collapsed onto the ground, smashing into the dirt and rocks, crushing countless apes beneath it.
Looking at the fallen beast, pinned by Mjolnir, Xia Luo landed gracefully beside the wreckage.
He dusted his hands off. "See, even on Planet M78, we don't need Ultraman to take down the monsters."
"What's Ultraman?"
"You know, the one that goes 'pew pew pew.'"
"Honestly, I don't get your humor. Wait—where's the hammer?"
Just as Old Steve shouted in alarm, the Leviathan shook off the remaining restraints and roared as it ascended back into the sky.
Xia Luo frowned, swinging up to the Leviathan's back once more, only to find that Mjolnir had vanished.
"I get it now. Since Thor didn't make it into the Exile Journey and got eliminated, his hammer can't stay either."
As he spoke, the shield in his hand was also swallowed by the void.
Looking down at his companions, Xia Luo saw that Lizard Parker and Carter's shields had also disappeared.
Without their shields, they were no match for the vicious Chitauri apes. The battle quickly turned, with Lizard Parker and Carter being overwhelmed by the endless swarm, leaving only Tony and Thanos to hold the line.
"This is bad. Spidey, use your superpower to figure something out!" Old Steve called, his face pale with concern.
Xia Luo: "..."
If he actually had a power like that, he wouldn't have needed to cheat his way through this.
At that moment, Xia Luo's spider-sense went haywire as the Leviathan twisted violently, trying to shake him off.
"Crap…"
Old Steve clung desperately to the creature's jagged bones. "Hurry up and use your superpower!" he shouted.
But Xia Luo had an idea. Without hesitation, he ripped off his web-shooters and leaped down toward the giant bones below.
"Psshh! Psshh!"
Firing his organic webs, Xia Luo swung around the Leviathan, binding it in layer after layer of silken threads. The creature's movements became sluggish as the gleaming webs tightened around it, cutting into its armored hide and tearing at its flesh.
"Screeeeech!"
The sound of metal being torn filled the air as the Leviathan let out one final, blood-curdling roar. Black blood sprayed from its body as it thrashed helplessly in the web's grip.
Xia Luo landed on a massive skeleton, exhaustion hitting him like a wave.
The organic webs he had gained from the bonus Primal Spider Mode were incredibly strong, with hardness and cutting power beyond belief. But producing them required an enormous amount of energy.
He was exhausted.
But stronger than ever.
