"Just now, what were you discussing with the Director?"
Returning to the room, Shi He nestled into the familiar embrace of He Kui. Her voice reverberated softly against his chest.
"We'll be visiting the District Chief of PLANT's Sector One upon our return."
"Is something going on?"
"There are some things I need to clarify."
"Alright."
Shi He nodded obediently, then asked, "Is everything ready?"
"All set."
He Kui looked over at the corner of the room, where a small armory of robots stood ready. Seeing them gave him a renewed sense of security.
"Well then, there's still time before we leave PLANT~"
"Indeed."
He Kui knew what Shi He was hinting at, and just as he was about to reciprocate, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
"Who's there?"
"Hey, it's me."
Hearing the familiar voice outside, He Kui and Shi He exchanged a surprised look. He Kui walked over to open the door.
"Commander Andrew, what brings you here?"
Standing outside were none other than Andrew and Aisha, both looking as spirited as ever.
With an amused glance, Andrew's expression hinted he'd interrupted on purpose, but He Kui could only respond with a helpless smile.
"Aisha~ You're here!"
Shi He, however, cheerfully ran over to greet Aisha with a hug.
"...?"
Watching the two women chat, He Kui felt a bit perplexed.
"Shi He mentioned you were quite busy lately. Aisha thought we could surprise you."
Understanding dawned on He Kui as he realized that, indeed, he hadn't been informed they'd be coming.
"Alright then, Aisha and I will leave you two to chat~"
The two women exchanged glances and, with a bit of mischievous intent, left the room together.
Andrew, with a knowing smile, clapped a hand on He Kui's shoulder.
"Did we interrupt something?"
"Yes..."
"Haha! Sorry, sorry."
"Usually, apologies aren't said with a grin."
He Kui rolled his eyes, though he welcomed both guests into his quarters.
"Is Commander Andrew assigned to Gibraltar?"
"Well, I was starting to feel rusty cooped up in PLANT, so I requested a deployment."
"Currently, I'm the security advisor for the Gibraltar base, at least for now."
Andrew was as talkative as ever.
"So, in that case, we're temporarily colleagues."
He Kui saw Andrew's cheerful demeanor but knew he still held a position of influence and respect, even more so than himself.
"So, what's the current state on Earth, any updates?"
"Same as ever—although, with the Earth Alliance getting data on MS, they're likely pushing hard on development. But time's ticking for us."
"This base upgrade is, in part, a reaction to that urgency."
Andrew's tone grew somber.
"Right. Once they deploy Coordinators capable of piloting MS, our advantage will slip."
He Kui nodded, then continued, "What do you think we should do, Commander?"
"No idea. Soldiers stick to soldiering, and you've got research to manage, haven't you?"
Andrew stretched, his demeanor relaxed. Just then, Shi He and Aisha returned.
"I should head back. You two enjoy your downtime; for now, at least, we're safe here."
Andrew's parting remark carried a veiled warning.
"As long as you're here, Commander, I'm reassured."
"As you should be."
With that, Andrew wrapped an arm around Aisha's waist and headed out.
"…"
"Sorry, did that surprise you?"
Seeing He Kui's expression, Shi He felt a twinge of guilt.
"Not at all; I was just…lost in thought."
He Kui gently stroked Shi He's silky hair.
"By the way, what's that?"
He Kui's gaze fell on the small bag in Shi He's hands.
"Hehe, guess~"
Shi He gave him a mischievous smile.
"Clothes?"
"Right~!"
Without waiting for him to say more, Shi He slipped into the restroom.
"We could have done that here, you know."
Watching Shi He's slim, red-clad figure moving away, He Kui felt a pang of regret.
"It wouldn't have been a surprise!"
Shi He called back from the restroom.
"I could do without surprises..."
Muttering, he didn't have to wait long before Shi He emerged.
Gone was her standard red uniform, replaced by a light, white silk dress. Her fair skin glowed beneath the sheer fabric, accentuating the allure of her silhouette.
"Do I look nice?"
Shi He twirled, looking at him with a teasing smile.
"You look amazing, Shi He. Even better than the dress itself."
So this was Aisha's idea? Suddenly, he envied Andrew for a moment…but remembered he had Shi He.
With a grin, He Kui closed the gap between them, pulling her close.
The silk fabric grazed his skin, sparking a tingly, pleasant sensation.
"Well then, while we still have time~"
Shi He rose onto her bare toes, placing a soft kiss on his lips.
"Absolutely~"
With that, He Kui let Shi He gently push him back onto the bed.
Afterward, refreshed and invigorated, they spent a while longer in each other's embrace before getting dressed and going about their preparations.
No unexpected incidents arose on their journey, and soon they arrived at Gibraltar via a small, hangar-equipped Laurassia landing craft.
As protocol dictated, He Kui and Tiebi remained in their mobile suits for a final patrol before arrival.
This time, however, He Kui wasn't piloting a GINN but his customized GaT-X.
With modifications, the GaT-X model he piloted had been optimized for enhanced agility and offensive capability.
As for his old GINN, he kept it stowed on his asteroid base. Although he hadn't returned it yet, he figured he'd just act like he hadn't heard if anyone asked.
Seeing him maneuver in the upgraded suit, it was clear why people were excited to see him—the renowned PLANT researcher who had come to overhaul the base defenses and radar system.
"This Advisor, is he always like this?"
He Kui grumbled from inside his cockpit. The last time he'd been here, the Advisor's antics had nearly gotten him killed.
"Yeah, he's always been like this."
Andrew's voice chimed in. He was flying his heavily modified LaGOWE, equipped with a powerful thruster pack for aerial mobility.
"Quite the setup."
Grumbling, He Kui finished the patrol and returned to the hidden hangar where the Advisor was waiting, an apologetic smile on his face.
"Welcome, everyone! I've set up a welcome banquet, and I do hope you'll attend."
"Of course. Thank you for the invitation."
The Advisor's relief was evident
.
"I heard there was a test model on board as well?"
"It's arriving separately, but it'll remain within secure hangars."
"Understood. I'll show you to your quarters for now."
"Thank you."
