I took a deep breath as I finished oiling my scalp and cornrows, the fresh scent of the oils lingering in the air. The liquid felt cool and silky in my hand, a stark contrast to the anticipation bubbling inside me. My heart beat steadily, a metronome keeping time with the anxious energy filling the room. Dressed in my usual all-black attire, combat boots laced up snugly, I was ready for whatever the day would bring.

I glanced at my reflection in the mirror, taking a moment to steady my nerves. Today was the Offering Ceremony, a day I had worked so hard for, and now it was finally here.
