"A scientific doctor? I feel like I've heard that somewhere." Karen's eyes lit up as she reached out her hand. "Nice to meet you, I'm Karen, a medical doctor."
Ye Hai politely shook her hand and said, "I'm Ye Hai. Please don't think of me as a Japanese or a Korean; I'm a Chinese youth, currently working at Osborne Industries."
"Oh? Even a superhero needs to work?" Karen responded enthusiastically. "You see, you flew just now…"
Ye Hai shrugged and replied, "Flying doesn't solve the problem of eating. Besides, I enjoy researching biological sciences, and the environment at Osborne is perfect for me."
"I agree; they indeed have some of the most cutting-edge technology there. I interviewed there once, but the interviewer asked me about the hybridization between women and spiders—good heavens, what are they trying to do?" Karen exclaimed dramatically, revealing her talkative nature.
Ye Hai chuckled, "They likely won't be researching that anymore. If you're willing to join, I can help get you admitted."
What he meant was that Norman Osborne had treated their family's genetic disease, so they wouldn't have such perverse experiments in the future. Researching such things consumes a lot of funding without much market acceptance, meaning it has little commercial value.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I think my current job is fine," Karen politely declined. In truth, she was filled with fear about becoming a vampire; she became particularly chatty when nervous—a method of stress relief for humans.
"I want to go see Faith; I wonder if he's still alive and kicking," Ye Hai smiled.
Jamal Afari replied proudly, "That guy had garlic for breakfast today. I fed him more than ten cloves of garlic; he's been suffering to the point of near death!"
Holy water and crucifixes have little effect on vampires, but they are allergic to garlic and silver. Excessive amounts damage vampire cells, akin to having sulfuric acid splashed on the body, leading to extensive decay and extreme pain.
"Oh, poor Faith," Ye Hai said nonchalantly.
Seeing that the three men treated life so carelessly, Karen couldn't help but feel anxious, thinking, "If I become a vampire, will they treat me the same way?"
Faith had been locked in a dark, damp basement by Jamal Afari, filled with foul odors and often visited by rats.
He had been tortured to the point of being unrecognizable, with his skin shredded, looking like burnt meat on a grill, completely lacking a humane appearance.
Seeing this horrific sight, Karen couldn't help but scream and hurriedly ran back.
When Faith spotted Ye Hai, he knew his end was near and called out in relief, "Hurry and finish your damned experiment. Send me off already!"
