Bab 11: Chapter 11 : The first battle between Starlight and the members of the black robe
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, drop reward: File size expansion (Elongated Man)."
In a single blow, it wasn't bad.
"Are you going to help him get justice?" Jonny Blaze asked, his tone mocking as he glanced at Starlight. She stood still, staring blankly at the lifeless body of the Elongated Man, unable to speak.
Starlight regretted meeting Jonny Blaze.
Whether it was the chaotic and sleazy sights she'd witnessed in the nightclub or the reality that Jonny had ruthlessly torn apart, her long-held beliefs were crumbling under the weight of it all.
Watching him turn and walk away, she hesitated for a moment before reluctantly following.
Inside the nightclub's security room, a bearded man, Billy, had taken Huey to request footage from the security staff.
On the screen, they saw the Locomotive drinking.
"Wait, is the Locomotive here right now?" Huey asked quickly.
"No, this was from last night. Turn on the audio," Billy instructed the security.
On the screen, another man dressed as a superhero sat beside the Locomotive.
"I can't believe you turned that girl into meat paste."
"Wanna hear something even crazier?" the Locomotive replied. "I was running so fast when I plowed into her that I accidentally swallowed one of her teeth—like a bug hitting your windshield!"
"Dude, that's disgusting."
"Hahaha!"
"Hahaha!"
The two men burst into laughter, as if it were a funny joke.
"They're laughing—like she was a joke!" Huey gritted his teeth, fury replacing the fear and hesitation in his eyes.
Billy stepped closer to Huey. "So, what are you going to do about it?"
Huey didn't respond with words, but the determined look in his eyes said enough.
Outside the nightclub, in a dark alley, Jonny Blaze raised his hand, motioning for Huey and Billy to come over.
"Hey, come over here. Let's have a little chat."
They had both seen Jonny use his heat vision to kill the Elongated Man. Being called over now made Huey instinctively terrified.
He has the same powers as Homelander!
Billy's face twisted in disgust. He had no love for people with powers, especially someone with abilities similar to Homelander's.
A smile can be polite, but it can also be a warning. Right now, Jonny's grin clearly carried the latter meaning.
Reluctantly, they approached. Jonny pointed at Billy and then looked at Starlight.
"He's carrying something that holds the answers you're looking for."
Starlight glanced nervously at Billy, who backed away slightly. She couldn't defy Jonny's demand. Curious and wanting the truth, she took a few steps forward.
"I don't know what he's talking about, but if you have it, hand it over," Starlight said firmly.
Billy's expression didn't falter. "I don't know what you're talking about, and I don't have anything for you."
Electricity crackled around Starlight, and a distant streetlight flickered before shutting off with a loud bang.
"I don't want to hurt you, but hand it over!" she demanded, her voice steady.
She's a superhuman too!
"Alright, fine—I'll give it to you," Billy said, reaching into his coat. As Starlight's guard lowered, his eyes turned sharp with malice.
"Go to hell!"
Billy pulled out a pistol and, without hesitation, fired at Starlight, grabbing Huey and pulling him along as they bolted down the alley.
"Bang bang bang bang bang!" The bullets rained down.
But before they could hit Starlight, a figure threw themselves in front of her, taking the shots. Starlight froze, shocked by the unexpected act.
For some reason, she felt an unfamiliar sense of trust and safety.
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, drop reward: 3 points."
"If you don't act, they'll get away," Jonny Blaze called out nonchalantly, not even bothering to turn around.
"Oh—" Starlight snapped out of her daze, raising her hands. Lightning shot out from her fingertips, hitting Billy and Huey as they fled.
"Zzzzt—"
The electric bolts hit their targets, and the two collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain.
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, drop reward: Unleash bright light with Energy Absorbing and Electricity (Starlight)."
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, drop reward: 1 point."
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, drop reward: 5 points."
As the pleasant sound of the notifications echoed, Jonny Blaze couldn't help but smile. The system's name truly lived up to its promise.
In just a few days, he had effortlessly gained a wide range of powers.
No matter who they were, as long as Jonny set his eyes on their abilities, he could claim them for himself.
Even better, the same ability could be stacked, increasing its potency. While only physical powers had proven stackable so far, it was more than enough to make him superior to the originals.
Jonny thought of a character from Marvel with similar abilities—Protege, the godlike being who could copy powers infinitely.
Though their methods differed, both he and Protege had no upper limits. In fact, Jonny's potential might be even greater than Protege's.
Protege couldn't copy Jonny's system, but Jonny could still acquire Protege's abilities through system rewards.
Even if the One Above All showed up, Jonny had the chance to acquire its powers.
He could travel to other worlds, gaining even more unique and powerful abilities.
In time, he'd have it all. Bread, milk—everything.
