Bab 48: Tension and Threats

The silence lingered, thick and uncomfortable, as I stood next to Marcy. I could feel my heart beating incredibly and I desperately tried to control myself before my fear became even more obvious.

Her steps slowed as we moved down the hallway, and I could sense the lingering sadness and confusion in her posture. 

I wanted to reach out and say something—anything—to make this all feel less cruel. But there wasn't time for even a comforting look, not with Sofia waiting for us at the end of the hall.

She was standing there, arms crossed, her gaze icy and hateful as she took in Marcy's presence. 

From the smirk appearing on her lips, I knew she was ready to pounce.

"Well, well," Sofia said, tilting her head. Her tone was filled with mock surprise, her words razor-sharp. "What an interesting visitor we have. I can't say I'm surprised, Maria, but I would think even you would have better taste than to bring someone like… this to our home."
