Bab 30: A Dangerous Game

I couldn't stop thinking about it—the conversation I'd overheard earlier. The way Bruno had spoken to that man, Santiago. The threats, the mention of payment, and the calm, almost sinister way Bruno had handled it all. It haunted me through the evening, eating away at my thoughts, making it impossible to relax.

By the time I crawled into bed, sleep was out of the question. 

My mind was racing with questions, with doubts about everything I thought I knew about Bruno. I tossed and turned, unable to shake the nagging suspicion that he was hiding something much bigger than I'd ever imagined.

What if the rumors about him were true?

The thought alone sent a shiver down my spine. For all his power, for all his carefully crafted image of control and dominance, I had never seen Bruno as someone who could truly be dangerous. But after today, after overhearing that conversation, I wasn't so sure anymore.
