Bab 38: The Clash Of Shadow And Lightning

With his focus entirely on Ken, the rain clouds rumbled ominously, the downpour intensifying as crackles of lightning shot outward, trembling the ground beneath them. Shadows snaked forward, moving with a life of their own, darting through the air and colliding with Kai. They tore at his cloak, raking at his skin, yet his gaze never wavered from Ken. His dagger became a swift blur, cutting through the encroaching shadows with remarkable ease, his hair dancing wildly as he moved even faster.

'His focus is entirely on me; he doesn't care about anything else,' Ken thought, feeling the thrill of their clash as Kai closed the distance between them, lightning flaring dangerously around his dagger. 'I like where this is going.'

Swirling tendrils of shadows shot through the air, racing toward Kai, but the young Magus steadied himself. The shadows erupted outward, shifting and coiling as they lunged at him once more.
