"Mom, are you saying I'm lying?" I queried, hurt by the thought.

She shook her head but then coughed soon after, holding her chest and trying to catch her breath.

Yikes, I almost forgot she's sick.

My father placed his hand behind her back, gently caressing her.

Sigh... If only I had a love like theirs. Love didn't have to be so difficult and dramatic, like with Kaene.

"Sorry about that." My mother muttered when she was finally able to calm down, using the back of her hand to wipe her mouth. "Anyway, I wasn't trying to suggest that you're lying. I'm saying that something doesn't quite add up with you getting so intoxicated that you throw yourself at the Beta."

I squinted my eyes, thinking deeply about her words.

Just then, my brother chimed in. "I mean, I wouldn't blame Phoebe, to be honest. That Beta is one hot piece of candy."
