Bab 250: Chapter 250: Facing the Danger
Mewtwo was exhilarated, feeling its strength surge. Initially hesitant to face Mew, it now felt no pressure and even believed it could surpass Mew. This progress brought Mewtwo great satisfaction. It felt it should show humans that even as a manufactured replica, it was not inferior to the original, and perhaps even stronger.
Even at this point, Mewtwo remained fixated on the distinction between original and replica. However, except for Team Rocket, no one else, human or Pokémon, considered Mewtwo a mere copy of Mew.
While Mewtwo was indeed created using Mew's genes, it possessed self-awareness and individuality, making it a unique and independent being.
"Mew—!" Mewtwo roared, unleashing its unrestrained power, causing the surrounding space to distort. Mew's Psychic attacks were no match for Mewtwo's onslaught and were repeatedly repelled.
The tables had turned. Mew's controlled area had shrunk to a diameter of five meters and was still diminishing.
Mew knew it was no longer Mewtwo's rival. Its best option was to teleport away before Mewtwo learned how to block space.
However, Mew was also aware that if it disappeared, Mewtwo would likely vent its anger on the humans present, something Mew didn't want to see.
So, it could only persevere, hoping for help to arrive.
This was New Island, close to the Orange Islands. The commotion here would surely be sensed by Lugia, the guardian of the sea. If Lugia intervened, Mewtwo, despite its current strength, would be no match for the legendary Pokémon.
"What should we do? Mew looks like it's about to lose!" Misty leaned on Ash's back, her voice filled with worry and fear.
Ash was also contemplating a solution, but with his current strength, he was powerless. Even the combined efforts of Charizard and Pikachu had little effect on Mewtwo.
"The only one who can resolve this situation is Marshadow... If Marshadow joins forces with Mew, Mewtwo might not stand a chance..." Ash's only hope lay in Marshadow.
He didn't know the extent of Marshadow's power, but it was undoubtedly comparable to Mew and Mewtwo. If they teamed up, they could surely suppress and defeat Mewtwo.
However, Ash didn't know how to prompt Marshadow to act. Perhaps... if he were in danger, Marshadow would intervene?
Ash frowned, glancing back at his shadow. He knew Marshadow was there, but it had never revealed itself, leaving Ash uncertain of its intentions.
"Marshadow, please, help Mew..." Ash gritted his teeth, addressing the shadow.
"Marshadow... That's right, there's also Marshadow!" Hearing Ash's words, Misty and Brock suddenly realized they had overlooked Marshadow's presence. If Marshadow intervened, the situation could indeed be reversed.
With this thought, they shared Ash's hope, gazing at his shadow. Unaware that Marshadow resided within, they only saw Ash looking at his own shadow and mimicking his actions.
Within the shadow, a pair of eyes, resembling candle flames, emerged, observing Ash silently, ignoring Misty and Brock.
Marshadow's appearance lifted Ash's spirits, but he was taken aback when he saw the meaning in its eyes... it seemed to have no intention of intervening.
"Why?" Ash was puzzled. Marshadow clearly possessed the power to resolve the situation, yet it remained a passive observer, even now, showing no inclination to act.
Marshadow continued to watch Ash, paying no attention to Mew and Mewtwo's battle.
"Marshadow, please, help Mew." Misty and Brock, unaware of Marshadow's earlier response, pleaded for its assistance upon recognizing it.
But Marshadow ignored them, its gaze fixed on Ash, calm and unwavering, as if waiting for something, anticipating something.
"I see..." Just as Misty and Brock wondered why Marshadow remained unresponsive, Ash understood its intentions.
As he had suspected, Marshadow, bound by Ho-Oh's command to protect Ash, the "Rainbow Warrior," would only act when Ash himself was in danger.
Ash, having been recognized by Ho-Oh and bestowed the Rainbow Wing, bore the title of "Rainbow Warrior." However, if he lacked courage, the title would be meaningless.
"The more I witness such power, the more apprehensive I become, despite my initial fearlessness..." Ash muttered, a hint of self-deprecation in his voice.
His goal had always been to reach the pinnacle of the world. While that ambition remained unchanged, his thoughts and character had subtly shifted after encountering numerous powerful forces.
He had lost his former boldness.
Marshadow's presence had instilled a subconscious reliance on its protection, a tendency that neither Marshadow nor Ho-Oh wished to see
Observing Ash's gradually changing gaze, Marshadow's calm eyes also seemed to ripple slightly, but it still didn't move. It wanted to see if Ash truly possessed the qualities of a "Rainbow Warrior."
Ash instructed Pidgeot to fly them towards Yusho. "Yusho, please take care of Misty and Brock for a while."
"What... ?!" Yusho and the others were startled by Ash's words. Misty and Brock didn't understand his intentions, but a moment later, Misty seemed to realize something, and her face paled.
However, Ash didn't give them a chance to react. He gently tossed Misty and Brock towards Yusho and Pidgeot. Carrying five people proved challenging for Yusho's Pidgeot, causing it to descend slightly under the weight.
"Ash, don't!" Misty, clinging to Pidgeot, reached out for Ash, but he only smiled and shook his head.
"Some things, even if you know they're dangerous, you still have to do them." Ash gazed at Mewtwo with a determined look in his eyes. He was resolved to personally stop this senseless battle and put an end to the impending disaster.
