In the main podium, four crimson barriers rose up.
The Four Violet Flames Formation trapped both the Kazekage and the Hokage, along with their respective guards, inside.
The Four Violet Flames Formation was well-known, said to be nearly impossible to break through with conventional means. Aoba was tempted to test if he could break it himself.
But looking at Orochimaru and the Third Hokage inside, he decided to give them the chance to settle their past.
As Shukaku appeared, a bright flare went up into the sky. Outside the city, a hidden force began summoning.
A few seconds later, a massive summoned creature, comparable in size to Orochimaru's large snakes, appeared outside Konoha's walls.
Numerous Sand Village shinobi surrounded Konoha, coordinating various large-scale ninjutsu attacks against the prepared defense barrier's weak points.
All the attacks occurred simultaneously, and to Aoba, this coordinated assault seemed much tighter and stronger than in the original storyline.
Not only were there Sand shinobi on the outskirts, but due to the Chunin Exams' open attendance, many Sand shinobi had infiltrated Konoha ahead of time.
Now, they were striking from within, creating internal and external chaos throughout Konoha.
But at the moment, the biggest threat was the One-Tail, Shukaku. Just released, he was in an excited state.
Aoba worried that Shukaku might unleash a Tailed Beast Bomb on Konoha in his excitement.
So, he acted immediately, flashing over to Shukaku's side and placing his right hand on him. He activated the Flying Thunder God technique with full force.
This was his first time trying to teleport such a large creature, and it felt incredibly taxing.
Thankfully, his chakra reserves were ample, and he succeeded. Thinking back to the Fourth Shinobi War, when the Fourth Hokage teleported a Tailed Beast Bomb, he felt he still had room to improve his mastery of this technique.
After tossing Shukaku away, Aoba immediately returned to Konoha. Inside the village, chaos reigned as Sand shinobi clashed with Leaf shinobi.
Sasuke, Karin, and the others were still cautiously waiting by the arena, unsure of what was happening.
Aoba kicked Shikamaru, who was pretending to be unconscious, to wake him up, and then issued orders to the young Genin in front of him.
"Alright, as you can see, the situation has escalated. The war has begun. From this moment, regardless of your identity or age, you all share one title: Konoha shinobi.
We are now in a state of war. As a Jonin of Konoha, I'm temporarily taking command."
Aoba's approach was flawless. Guy had been drawn away by Sand Village experts, while Asuma and Kurenai had mysteriously disappeared, likely on a date.
Aoba was the highest-ranking ninja on the scene, and according to Konoha's war protocol, he had the authority to command all Genin and Chunin present.
"Yes, sir." The group of young shinobi responded with noticeable excitement—well, most of them. Ino seemed a bit more eager than the other members of Team 10.
"Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji, your targets are Temari and Kankuro. They are on Gaara's team and likely hold vital intelligence. Capture them if possible.
If you can't, you know what to do, Shikamaru. Remember, this is war, and people die in war."
"Yes."
"Hinata Hyuga, Kiba Inuzuka, and Shino Aburame, head to the Konoha Academy and assist in evacuating the students who haven't graduated. Escort them to the shelters."
"Yes."
"Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki, Karin Uzumaki, Neji Hyuga, Lee, Tenten, your target is that person."
Aoba gestured toward a young man standing outside the Four Violet Flames Formation.
This man was the only guard of the Kazekage, or rather, Orochimaru, who hadn't entered the barrier.
Aoba recognized him as Kimimaro.
In the original storyline, Orochimaru didn't bring Kimimaro to this battle because his body was already near its limit. Orochimaru likely wanted to preserve his last strength for a critical moment.
However, due to Aoba's presence, Orochimaru might have been more cautious about the plan. He knew that if Aoba and Yumi intervened, his plan would be doomed.
Orochimaru had previously tested Aoba's attitude, knowing that Aoba didn't care much for Konoha. His continued unethical experiments were proof enough.
Orochimaru just wanted to know Aoba's bottom line.
After Aoba promised not to interfere, Orochimaru agreed not to harm Karin. As for Sasuke and Naruto, neither of them mentioned them, leaving their fates to chance.
But Orochimaru still felt uneasy, so he brought Kimimaro along this time.
He didn't expect Kimimaro to defeat Aoba and Yumi, but if Kimimaro fought with full strength, he could at least buy some time.
Aoba understood Orochimaru's reasoning, but he had no intention of fighting Kimimaro. Instead, he assigned the two strongest Genin teams to take him on.
As soon as the battle began, Kakashi focused on Kabuto, moving away from the main conflict.
Similarly, after assigning tasks to the young shinobi, Aoba vanished from the scene and reappeared by Shukaku, who was still causing chaos nearby.
Gaara had been put into a sleep-like state through some genjutsu, similar to the "Fake Sleep" jutsu.
Upon seeing Aoba, Shukaku immediately recognized him as the ninja who had tossed him miles away.
"You brat! How dare you mess with me! Die—Air Bullet!"
Facing a tailed beast's jutsu head-on was challenging. With its enormous body and chakra, any of Shukaku's jutsu were A-rank, even S-rank, area attacks.
"Earth Style: Moving Earth Core!"
Aoba pressed his right hand to the ground, causing the earth beneath Shukaku's left foot to rise, throwing his body off balance. The Air Bullet shot up into the sky.
"Earth Style: Earth Flow River!"
The ground beneath Shukaku turned to flowing mud, pulling him down as if to swallow him whole.
"Sand Style: Sand Shuriken!"
Though called shuriken, it was actually a mix of sand and ninja tools. Tailed beasts typically didn't need hand signs to cast jutsu.
In an instant, Shukaku launched a barrage of sand-based attacks at Aoba.
"Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall!" Aoba erected over a dozen walls to barely hold back the assault.
With a thought, Aoba entered Sage Mode. Battling a tailed beast directly made it hard to hold out in regular mode.
"Sage Art ~ Earth Style: Swamp of the Underworld." The Sage-powered Swamp of the Underworld combined with Earth Flow River, trapping Shukaku even further as his massive body sank halfway into the ground.
