Bab 22: Chapter 22: Sky Dragon’s Flame!

"Such skill... Even among Servants, yours ranks at the top," Gilgamesh said with a smirk as he faced Berserker in battle. "Azem? That's not your true name, is it?"

"?!" Saber and Jounouchi, who had been observing the fight, were both taken aback.

"I possess the ability to see through all things," Gilgamesh continued, "though something interferes with it this time. Even so, I can discern the true names of these mongrels. But you... I cannot see through you. The name I glimpse is but a facade. You possess such strength and presence, yet no divinity. As a mere human, you are far too extraordinary."

For the first time, Gilgamesh's tone toward Berserker began to change. Based on Berserker's prowess, he should be a famous hero in history. Yet, even Gilgamesh, the "King of Heroes," had no recollection of a hero matching his caliber. It was as if Berserker didn't exist in history, despite being a master of greatswords, lances, magic, katanas, and bows—a truly versatile hero. It was hard to imagine he was a nameless figure.

Such a remarkable warrior had even earned the interest of Gilgamesh, who typically looked down on other heroes. Even among the gods, this hero's abilities would make them pale in comparison.

"..."

Berserker, silent as ever, made no reply. Instead, he swapped the longbow in his hands for a gleaming golden lance. The surge of magical energy emanating from him spoke for itself.

"Hm?" Gilgamesh raised an eyebrow. "Are you about to unleash your Noble Phantasm? Very well, show me what you're capable of!" His interest piqued, Gilgamesh crossed his arms, watching as spatial ripples appeared behind him, signaling the readiness of his own treasures.

Whooosh!!

A wild wind howled as Saber and Jounouchi shielded themselves, catching glimpses of the immense magical energy radiating from Berserker. White light bloomed like fireworks as golden particles surrounded the lance, coalescing into a blue dragon that materialized behind Berserker.

"What is that?!" Saber exclaimed. "A dragon?!"

The colossal blue dragon roared, its maw opening wide as if preparing to devour its enemies.

Sky Dragon's Flame!

With a fearsome cry, Berserker dashed forward, the blue dragon following as a comet of destruction, aimed directly at the golden king.

Gilgamesh, however, didn't underestimate the incoming attack. He summoned a defensive Noble Phantasm from his treasure trove, capable of withstanding even "anti-fortress" level assaults. There was no way he would rely solely on his golden armor to block such a strike.

BOOM!!!

A massive pillar of magical energy shot skyward, as if piercing the heavens.

"This is insane!" Jounouchi shouted as he was flung backward by the shockwave. Clinging to a tree, he barely managed to keep himself from being thrown further.

"Ugh!" Saber dug her sword into the ground to anchor herself, but even so, she was pushed back, carving a deep trench as her feet slid across the earth.

---

"That Servant is... beyond powerful."

Even from a great distance, Waver could see the towering pillar of energy. From the sheer force of Berserker's attack, he knew that Rider wouldn't stand a chance if he took it head-on. He and his machine would be utterly destroyed.

"It's terrifying," Waver muttered, shaking his head. "We can't confront him directly."

That nearly omnipotent warrior—Lelouch had no intention of engaging Berserker head-on. He understood all too well that such a formidable foe could drastically shift the course of the war.

"Which is why forming alliances is necessary," Lelouch said, acknowledging their limited strength. This wasn't the first time he faced an overwhelming enemy. Lelouch's combat abilities, especially in this war, were shockingly subpar. Without his mecha and the powers of Geass, he had very little to offer on the battlefield—just as expected of his character.

After all, in his original world, Lelouch was the embodiment of intellect, not physical prowess.

"Matou and Tohsaka..."

Having deduced the Masters behind Archer and Berserker, Lelouch began making plans. Both of those Servants were exceptionally powerful and far beyond his ability to defeat in direct combat.

---

Crack.

After the explosion, nothing but a crater remained. Berserker gazed at the massive hole in the ground and knew Gilgamesh had been summoned back by his Master's Command Spell just as his attack was about to break through.

The battle wasn't over. Although the golden king hadn't fought with full force, the interference from his Master had left the contest unresolved. Berserker didn't know if he'd get another chance like this again.

With a glance at Saber, who was leaning on her sword for support, Berserker decided not to continue the fight. His magic reserves were depleted, and pushing forward would only draw mana from Sakura, putting her at risk. If he didn't retreat and allow himself to recover, it would endanger her.

"...?"

As Berserker's form faded, Saber, watching in surprise, realized he had left. She had expected him to press the attack, but instead, he withdrew.

"I can still sense Caster, but..."

Although she could feel the presence of Caster, Saber had no desire to pursue him. This chaotic battle had already drained much of her mana and strength. Besides, she was still concerned about whether Kiritsugu and Maiya's rescue operation had succeeded.

"Kiritsugu hasn't called for me, so I suppose everything is alright," she muttered to herself. With no Command Spell or summoning, she assumed no immediate danger. With that thought, Saber retracted her sword and armor.

---

"Phew! Finally, it's over... Were those guys even human?" Jounouchi steadied himself on the ground, still in disbelief at what he had just witnessed. The Servants he had encountered were like living versions of the Duel Monsters cards he was so familiar with—beyond anything a normal human could handle.

"How am I supposed to win against them?!"

Looking down at his Duel Disk, he saw the one remaining trap card, his last line of defense. The card had been on the field for a while but had yet to be used.

Relay Soul

All of his monsters and other cards had been exhausted in his fight with that little girl. He had no idea how to use this last card.

1234... 1233... 1232...

His Life Points continued to dwindle. He had barely managed to keep himself alive with the help of some cards, but there was no stopping the gradual decrease. At this rate, he would "self-destruct."

"Argh! This is so frustrating!" he growled, walking down the street with his head in his hands, trying to figure out how to get home.

"Huh?"

But as he rounded a corner, Jounouchi froze. A small figure was crouched on the ground, hugging their knees, lost in thought. Upon noticing him, the figure turned to face him.

Lancer. Caster.

"It's you!"

"It's you!"

Both of them spoke in unison, shocked to run into each other once again.
