Chris glanced at Gwen, who looked at him with vigilance and smiled.
"Since you want to know how I got these pictures and videos, I will tell you. But before I do that, do you understand the implications of what would happen if your identity were to get leaked?"
Of course Gwen understood the implications; how could she not? She had given it a lot of thought and struggled a lot before ultimately deciding to become Spider-woman.
Although she understood that it was impossible for her identity to become a secret forever, as she would inevitably reveal some flaws that could one day be used to determine her identity. Or make a mistake that could expose her identity.
She never thought that her identity would be easily revealed just like that. It was a worrying situation; luckily, Chris claims to be the only one who knows her identity… If he was telling the truth.
He had no reason to lie to her.
There were a lot of doubts in her mind; even if she disliked him, she mostly felt relieved that Chris decided to keep her secret and didn't tell anyone else.
But where does her sense of unease come from?
"I am fully aware of the impact it would have on me if my identity were to be leaked."
"Good, then this will be easy." Chris said with a small smile, "Do me a small favor, and I will keep your little secret."
"I knew it; I was wondering why you kept it to yourself and even called me here. You have no good intentions; if you think that I will just stand here and let you blackmail me, then dream on." Gwen said it with a snort.
"You didn't even hear out what favor I was asking; it could be—"
"The fact that you have to blackmail me just for this "favor" is a clear indicator that it is not a good thing." She cut him off.
"So you refuse?"
When she heard this, Gwen hesitated for a moment, but her face was filled with determination, and she decisively answered. "Yes."
"Even if I were to expose you?"
She took a deep breath and answered firmly, "I will deal with it."
"During your time as Spider-woman, you have made many enemies, from simple street hooligans to powerful gangs and villains. Have you ever thought what would happen to your family if your identity were to be leaked? The peaceful days in the lives of your family members would be over, so how exactly are you going to deal with it?" Chris was amused.
Gwen clenched her fists in frustration; she knew that he was right.
She has thought about all of these problems before. But still being blackmailed like this doesn't feel good, she knew that he would probably ask her to do something outrageous.
"Or do you want to bet on me not really going through with my threat?" Chris added.
His words really confirmed what she was thinking.
Gwen thought that if she firmly refused to give in, it would make him back down. But seeing his attitude, she wasn't sure anymore.
There was a short silence between them, with Gwen deep in thought, trying to think of how to maneuver the situation, and Chris observing her.
As if she were suddenly enlightened, Gwen stood up from the chair and loomed over Chris, her face filled with determination as if she decided to do something.
"Trying to use force will not work; do you think that I would foolishly try to blackmail spider-woman without any precautions?" He told her when he realized that she probably wanted to use her strength to force him to delete everything.
Gwen hesitated; she wasn't sure what to do; there may be a chance that he was bluffing. But his calm demeanor and unbothered attitude as if everything was under his control made her unable to be decisive.
"How do we know unless we tried?"
"Try it then."
She sighed and asked him powerlessly. "What do you really want from me then?"
"First of all... Strip."
"What!?" With a strong reaction, she asked; Gwen wasn't sure if she heard him well.
"I said take off your clothes."
Gwen trembled, because this reminded her of the time they were friends in the past.
Memories of the past kept repeating in her head, making her angry.
Gwen wasn't stupid; now that he said this, she knew where all of this was going.
"Oh, right, I almost forgot and rushed things." Chris took out a few A4-sized papers from a briefcase and put them in front of Gwen on the table.
"Gwen, I hope you can take a serious look at the contents above. As long as you sign your name and fingerprint on the contract, I will not tell a single soul about your secret at all.

After carefully reading the documents in front of her, Gwen's anger was immediately raised to the extreme. She slammed the table, cracking it.
"I won't sign this! Even if I were to be beaten to death. Do I look like a pet or your toy? I already knew that you were a jerk, but I didn't know you were disgusting to this extent."
Gwen took the opportunity to leave, but when she tried to open the door, it was locked and wouldn't open.
"Open the door for me; do you think using force on me would work?" She sneered.
With her strength, it would be easy for her to directly rip off the door from the wall.
"Gwen, come back and let's talk. I have no intention of imprisoning you, and I will never try to use violence to intimidate you. This will be a transaction based on mutual consent. It won't be too late for you to leave if we really can't come to an agreement." Chris calmly said to her.
"I have nothing to talk to you about; if you want to expose my identity, then go ahead."
In fact, she already knew that she should not let her identity be leaked at all, but after seeing Chris's calm face, which was a contrast to the things written on the contract, it somehow made her even more angry.
"Gwen, have you ever thought seriously that this is not just a problem that can be solved by fighting your enemies who know your identity and dealing with the mess this will bring to your life?" He asked her in a calm tone, as if the whole thing had nothing to do with him.
"What are you trying to say?" She asked coldly.
"Think about it; your father is the police chief if his daughter is exposed as a vigilante who wears tights and swings around beating up people breaking the law. Do you think that his career will continue to exist? Think about all those gangs and criminals who resent you; do you think they will sit still and do nothing when they know your identity? You may be strong and able to defend yourself, but will you be able to protect your family 24/7?"
Chris continued. "You should take this moment to get your priorities straight and stop your childish tantrum. Think about the lives and safety of your family; it is less important than what I am asking of you."
His words seemed to be the sharpest blade piercing his most vulnerable parts. Gwen was softhearted, and she knew her defense was shattered not long after. There was a voice whispering in her heart: "Sign it, just sign it."
"Besides your enemies, there are other powerful organizations that are on to you, and they do not come with good intentions." Chris added lightly, causing Gwen's face to become pale.
If this was the truth, then things have become even more complicated. If she walks away, then even without Chris exposing her, some other organization was already on her tails, and she did not think that it would be hard for them to uncover her identity since a lone Chris was able to succeed in his own.
The only way to remedy the situation was to sign the contract, as it would get him to help her cover up her identity.
It could be a trap, a lie woven to get her to dance to his tune, but she was out of options.
"I've said everything I wanted to say. I'll give you an hour to think about it. If you still insist on your own idea, then I will let you leave. I will tell you about those organizations only after signing the contract."
To be continued...
