Claire's POV

My heart skipped a beat. Did I hear him right? He missed me? Was this some kind of joke? Anger simmered beneath my skin as I tried to make sense of his words. This man, who had broken me in more ways than I could count, was standing here, saying he missed me?

I glared at him, my hands tightening into fists at my sides. "Are you serious?" I muttered under my breath, trying to keep my voice low. The last thing I wanted was to create a scene in front of everyone in the restaurant.

Sissy was still tense, standing protectively by my side, but I knew I had to handle this myself. "Follow me," I said sharply, pushing past him. I didn't want to deal with this mess in front of curious eyes. Without looking back, I made my way outside, feeling his presence close behind me.
