Bab 242: Chapter 242 The Unpredictable Ye Yongsheng
Time rewinds to 4 p.m.
When Cui Zhe drove to Ye Yongsheng's mistress' residence, two of Chu Haoran's bodyguards had already been waiting outside the complex for a while. They claimed Chu Haoran had sent them, fearing Cui Zhe might not be able to handle things alone, and they wanted to help speed up the process.
Cui Zhe said nothing in response, though his frustration grew internally.
The three disguised themselves as internet repairmen. After disabling the internet at the mistress' home, they easily gained entry. Soon, they dealt with the few bodyguards inside without much effort. Cui Zhe could tell that the two men Chu Haoran had sent were exceptionally skilled, far from ordinary. Yet, he had never seen them before, just like the bodyguards that had appeared at the meat processing factory earlier that day.
He once believed his relationship with Chu Haoran was as close as brothers, but now it was clear that Chu had been wary of him all along. Along with his anger, a chill ran down his spine, as he suddenly felt the precariousness of being in such close proximity to a man as unpredictable as a tiger.
After forcing the woman to sign the contract, they efficiently eliminated her. Naturally, the cousin who had taken her place was also dealt with. After completing the task, one of the bodyguards stayed behind to clean up, while the other acted as Cui Zhe's driver as they headed to the detention center.
When Ye Yongsheng saw the photos of his mistress and cousin's brutal deaths, he was momentarily stunned. He then took a deep breath and, through gritted teeth, said, "Thanks!"
Cui Zhe got straight to the point: "I mentioned something to you before. Have you thought it over?"
Ye Yongsheng laughed bitterly. "I ended up like this, all thanks to Chu Zhiqing. I only regret that I'm stuck in here, unable to take revenge myself. Since you want to bring him down, of course I'm willing to help, but I have one condition."
"Speak."
"I have no family left now, but the old directors under me are like brothers who've been through life and death with me. In your fight with Chu Zhiqing, don't involve them. And make sure they are paid enough to retire peacefully. Even those who betrayed me... I understand that Chu must have used some underhanded methods. I don't blame them."
Cui Zhe said, "Don't worry about that. The acquisition contract clearly states that they'll be paid according to the company's current value. They won't be shortchanged."
"Hmph, the current value? You're really after this fat piece of meat just for the money? We all know what's really going on, so I won't spell it out for you."
After a moment of silence, Cui Zhe's lips moved slightly, and he finally said, "At most, each of them will get a five-million-yuan bonus. Consider it as a favor to you. But asking for more would be impolite."
Five million might seem like a handout to those old directors. But given the current situation, Ye Yongsheng was in no position to negotiate. Something was better than nothing. He knew that if Chu Zhiqing succeeded, his old brothers might not even get their retirement funds. Even if they did, there was no guarantee they'd live long enough to enjoy it.
"Fine," Ye Yongsheng sighed. "I just hope you won't let me down."
Cui Zhe promised confidently, "We won't... Now that you've agreed, tell your old brothers to sign the contract. Just having your mistress sign isn't enough."
Ye Yongsheng nodded solemnly. "Go back for now. I'll talk to them. Tomorrow morning, you can go and get their signatures."
Cui Zhe hesitated for a moment, knowing it wasn't the right time to push further. He nodded and said, "Alright, it's a deal then. I'll go directly to Ye Group's headquarters tomorrow. Looking forward to working with you, Chairman Ye."
As Cui Zhe walked away, Ye Yongsheng's mind kept flashing back to the gruesome deaths of his mistress and cousin. He stood up without showing any emotion. After being escorted back to his cell, his eyes suddenly gleamed with hatred, and he slammed his fist hard against the wall, cursing under his breath.
Back to the present, at the Red Mansion.
Upon hearing the news of Ye Yongsheng's "escape," Chu Yuxuan was shocked. "Quite the skill! He managed to break out of that place?"
Chu Zhiqing spoke in a low voice, "This evening, several of Ye Group's old directors met with him. Around 8:30 p.m., he suddenly had a heart attack. While being transported to the hospital, his men ambushed the convoy, killing two guards."
The movie-like scene of ambushing a prison transport and killing guards may seem easy on screen, but in reality, it's extremely difficult. Even if successful, it would immediately attract heavy official attention, with serious consequences.
At his age, and with Ye Group's downfall being inevitable, it made more sense for him to wait for his sentencing. Once the media lost interest, he could try to reduce his sentence, which would be much safer than taking such a big risk.
"This old mad dog, making such a risky move... Is he really coming for revenge?" Chu Yuxuan mused, then added, "But it doesn't make sense. If he had the guts, why didn't he act sooner? "I also find it strange, very strange," Chu Zhiqing frowned. "I know Ye Yongsheng well. He's not someone who acts impulsively. It seems something must have pushed him... Haoran's men visited him this afternoon as well."
"Chu Haoran's men?" Chu Yuxuan paused, deep in thought. "What could they have said to push him to this point?"
"I can't figure it out either," Chu Zhiqing replied. "If he wanted revenge, he'd wait. Once sentenced, his old brothers would work on reducing his sentence. He could be out in a year or two. By then, even though Ye Group would be gone, don't forget that he was once a notorious crime boss with many loyal dogs. It would be much easier to exact revenge later than to risk escape now and attract so much attention. With the authorities monitoring everyone connected to him, he'd have no room to maneuver. What is he really after?"
"That old b*st*rd. I should've killed him when I had the chance," Chu Yuxuan said darkly.
"If it were that easy, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of sending him to prison," Chu Zhiqing said with a faint smile. "My original plan was to ensure he couldn't reduce his sentence, making him serve ten to twenty years. By the time he got out, everything would've changed. There'd be no need to fear his revenge. Taking his life then would be a breeze."
Father and son were both puzzled by Ye Yongsheng's sudden move, but one thing was certain: he was seeking revenge.
"Do you think he's planning to flee abroad, regroup, and come back stronger?" Chu Yuxuan asked.
Chu Zhiqing replied, "His people and money are all in the country. Besides, loyalty is hard to find these days. As soon as he fell, a few directors tried to take over Ye Group. But now, I've got them under control. They're obedient. Although a few remain loyal to Ye Yongsheng, moving Ye Group's money abroad without the board's approval is impossible."
At that moment, Chu Zhiqing frowned deeply, his expression growing complicated. He muttered, "That old fox... I think I've been tricked!"
