After all, Chu Yuxuan wanted to use the police to spread the message that Liu Jun was still alive and in his custody. That way, the setup would seem more authentic and less deliberate.
When her request was denied, Chu Muhan suddenly sneered, "Do you really think I can't search your house?"
She knew Liu Jun had likely been moved elsewhere by now, but since Chu Yuxuan had kept him in his villa for days, there must be some traces left behind. Even if Chu Yuxuan was already having people clean up, traces like Liu Jun's hair or fingerprints couldn't be removed so quickly. As long as she found something, and compared it with the hair found in Liu Jun's bathroom or his fingerprints from the prison system, any match would be enough to make Chu Yuxuan a suspect.
Chu Yuxuan snorted, "Then go ahead and apply for a search warrant. What's the point of threatening me here?"
Chu Muhan immediately pulled out her phone and called a colleague, speaking right in front of Chu Yuxuan, "I've found the missing person, Liu Jun, from the Xinying Village shooting case. He's at Jade Lake Villas. Hurry and apply for a search warrant. My dashcam captured his face!"
Hearing this, Chu Yuxuan pretended to panic, quickly getting into his car and heading home. In reality, he was purposely luring Chu Muhan to search his house.
Chu Muhan followed him in her car, tailing his Hummer all the way to the villa's gate. Flashing her police badge, she easily got inside.
However, since there was no search warrant yet, Chu Yuxuan kept the doors locked, and there was nothing she could do. She had no choice but to wait by the gate, frequently calling her colleagues and reminding them to have the traffic department check surrounding surveillance cameras to track the two Audi cars.
But with that blond, blue-eyed hacker involved, what use could those crucial surveillance lines possibly be?
The two sides remained in a standoff at the gate. After more than half an hour, several police cars arrived, sirens blaring, and they presented a search warrant to Chu Yuxuan. He had no reason to resist anymore and opened the doors to let the police search the place.
However, after searching thoroughly for quite some time, there were no signs of illegal detainment anywhere in the villa. The only thing the forensics team could collect were a few hairs and fingerprints, which had to be compared later for any results.
Without solid evidence, Chu Yuxuan firmly denied any connection to the footage from the dashcam that Chu Muhan had provided. Frustrated, the police captain could only remind Chu Yuxuan to keep his phone available, as they could summon him anytime. But for now, they couldn't take him in.
As she watched the captain and the team head back to the station, Chu Muhan didn't immediately follow. Instead, she pulled Chu Yuxuan aside into a quiet corner and sternly questioned, "Tell me, did you already kill Su Dong?"
Chu Yuxuan lazily replied, "Who's Su Dong?"
Glaring at him, Chu Muhan sternly said, "Chu Yuxuan, if you've found any clues about what happened ten years ago, you can tell me. I'll help you. But please, stop causing more trouble! I know you. You're not inherently bad; you're just blinded by hatred. Going down this dark path won't end well!"
Chu Yuxuan smirked, his expression no longer playful. "What's good? What's bad? What's black, what's white? Does burning incense and worshiping Buddha automatically make someone good? Does wearing clothes automatically make someone human? Ha, I'm just seeking justice for myself. I'm not interested in being a hero."
"The law will give you justice! If everyone acted like you, killing people left and right, what kind of world would this be?"
Chu Yuxuan spread his hands and mocked, "It's been ten years. Where's the justice you've promised me? Hmm? Show it to me! What? You don't have it? So, it can't be given, right? That case file is probably collecting dust in your precinct's archives by now. Hmph... I'm already on this path, and I'm not turning back—nor do I want to! I won't spare any of those who deserve to rot in hell! You want to save them with the law? Try it. Let's see who gets there first."
Chu Muhan closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and said, "You better pray that the fingerprints and hair we collected today don't match Liu Jun's. If they do, I'll arrest you without hesitation!"
Chu Yuxuan remained calm, smiling, "Alright, I'll go make an offering to Guan Gong later. He's such a righteous guy; I'm sure he'll protect me."
Gritting her teeth, Chu Muhan paused before asking in a low voice, "That shooting at Hualin Mountain a few days ago—was that you too?"
Chu Yuxuan rolled his eyes. "Come on, sis. If a dog dies in the street in a few days, are you going to investigate me for that too? If you're so bored, why not try dating? You're already thirty; aren't you worried about not finding a husband?"
Chu Muhan glared at him for a while, then coldly said, "We'll see." With that, she turned and left.
Watching her familiar figure fade away, Chu Yuxuan's expression grew complicated.
He never really blamed his sister. As a righteous police officer, she wasn't wrong. But for the deep grudge he harbored, not even the gods could stop him from seeking revenge.
Back in the villa, Li Bin greeted him with a sheepish grin. "Boss Chu, what are we up to this time? The whole police force nearly mobilized. That was insane!"
Chu Yuxuan sat down on the couch, motioning for Li Bin to sit beside him, and smiled faintly. "Aren't you scared?"
"I used to be, honestly! A small-time guy like me, the police are the last people I want to mess with," Li Bin laughed. "But working for you, I've got confidence. I'm not scared anymore!"
After a moment of silence, Chu Yuxuan patted his shoulder. "Li Bin, thank you for your help. But don't get too involved in my affairs. The less you know, the better."
Li Bin nodded lightly, though his eyes betrayed a hint of disappointment. "Alright... Boss Chu, I always thought you considered me one of your own."
"You are someone I trust," Chu Yuxuan said earnestly. "But what I'm doing is dangerous. It could get you hurt. Take my advice—I've given you plenty of money already. Use it to start a legit business with your brothers. Stop wasting your time with petty crimes. Be a man."
Li Bin gritted his teeth and forced out, "Boss Chu, I really want to stay by your side! I'll drive for you, guard you, run errands for you—anything! If you keep me close, I'll feel like my life was worth something!"
But Chu Yuxuan shook his head. "You'd be better off starting a company with your brothers. If you need more money, just let me know."
Li Bin hesitated, then dropped his head. "No... You've given me more than enough."
Chu Yuxuan smiled. "Alright, go rest upstairs for a bit. Later, you'll need to take that actor back."
Two hours later, the police captain called to apologize to Chu Yuxuan.
This time, however, Chu Yuxuan acted out of character, furiously filing a complaint against his sister. He couldn't let that police beauty keep getting in his way. She needed to stay put and reflect on her actions at the precinct.
Sure enough, after getting reprimanded, Chu Muhan was forced to stay in her office and write a report. Meanwhile, Liu Jun's photo was posted online, with a reward for any leads from the public.
