Bab 8: Chapter 7
"I don't want the money. I want her to give up on him. Why would he pay the ransom? Why?!"
"Sharon, let's just leave, we've got what we came for. Isn't that enough? Think about what our future life will be!"
"No, you don't understand. I love him. Why won't he even look at me?"
"You're insane! If you want to die, don't drag me into this. Let's go now!"
"Tom, let go of me. I need to finish something first, then I'll catch up. "
When the voices faded, the door finally swung open.
Julia and I rushed out, screaming for Jake.
But as we made our escape, we were violently shoved back.
Only then did we realize we were on a high scaffold.
Dark clouds loomed overhead, threatening a storm.
Julia tumbled down the stairs but managed to shield me against the railing before falling.
She looked up in disbelief at her attacker,
"Sharon? Is it really you?"
"Why? Why are you doing this?"
"I treated you like a sister. Why are you betraying me?"
Sharon's laugh was cold and eerie,
"Why? Because of love, of course. "
"I wanted to scare him off with that ten-million dollars ransom, to make him give up on saving you, to break your spirit and drive you away from him. But he still raised the money!"
"How much must he love you to sell everything, even take on massive debt, just to save you!"
Sharon's face twisted in fury,
"If he hadn't shown up, maybe I would have let you live. But he came, and my jealousy turned me into a monster. I'm capable of anything when I'm like this!"
"Don't blame me, Julia. Blame him for loving you too much. . . "
Sharon advanced towards Julia, intent on pushing her off the edge.
Desperate, I grabbed her legs,
"Don't hurt my mom! You're evil, just evil!"
Sharon tried to kick me away, the old scaffolding creaking ominously under our weight.
Any look away could lead to a fall through those cracks.
Julia found her footing and lunged at Sharon, hoping to overpower her and save us both.
But weakened by days without food or water, we were no match for Sharon's relentless strength.
She easily threw Julia down, pinning her and wrapping her hands around her throat,
"Why does he love you and not even glance my way?"
"What do you have that I don't? If I had met Jack first, he would have loved me!"
