Bab 27: Chapter 27: Inner Questions

Elias lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling of his dimly lit room. The day's events weighed heavily on his mind, but it wasn't the usual worries that troubled him. It was something deeper, something more unsettling. He couldn't shake the feeling that others were aware of something about him—something he himself didn't fully understand.

The thoughts circled his mind like vultures. How did Seraphina know? And Quinn? And even Lyra? They weren't just ordinary students. There was something about them, a certain knowing in their eyes whenever they looked at him, especially Seraphina. It was as if they could see right through him, see the very essence of his being, the magic that pulsed within him. But how? And why did it feel like they knew more about it than he did?

Elias tried to remember every interaction he'd had with them. The first time he met Seraphina, she had spoken to him with a confidence that unnerved him. "You don't belong here," she had said, her voice laced with an odd mixture of authority and pity. At the time, he thought she was just being arrogant, maybe trying to scare him off. But now, he wasn't so sure. There was something about the way she had said it, something that suggested she knew something he didn't.

Then there was Quinn. She had seemed friendly enough at first, but there was always that undercurrent of curiosity in her gaze, as if she was studying him, trying to piece together a puzzle. And Lyra—she had barely spoken to him, but he had caught her watching him more than once, her eyes narrowing slightly as if she could sense something off about him.

"What do they know?" Elias whispered to himself, turning over onto his side. His thoughts were racing, and no matter how much he tried to calm them, they only grew louder.

He had never really questioned his magic before. It was something he had always had, something that had always been there. He had used it, relied on it, but he had never really thought about where it came from or why it was different. But now, he couldn't avoid it anymore. There was something about his magic, something that set it apart, and he needed to understand what it was.

But how? How could he learn about something he didn't even know existed? And why did Seraphina, Quinn, and Lyra seem to know more about it than he did? The thought made his stomach turn. What if they were right? What if he really didn't belong here? What if this magic was something dangerous, something that would bring him nothing but trouble?

Elias sat up abruptly, unable to lie still any longer. The room felt too small, too confining. He needed air, needed to clear his head. Throwing on a jacket, he left his room and headed outside. The night was cool, the stars twinkling above him like distant beacons of light. But even the beauty of the night sky couldn't calm his racing thoughts.

He found a bench and sat down, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, staring down at the ground. The questions kept coming, each one more insistent than the last. Why him? Why did he have this magic? And what did it mean that others seemed to know about it?

Elias thought about his life before he came to the academy. He had always been different, always felt like he didn't quite fit in. But he had chalked it up to being an orphan, to growing up without a family, without roots. But now, he was beginning to wonder if it was something more, something tied to this magic inside him.

It wasn't just about the power, though. It was about the way it felt, the way it seemed to resonate within him, as if it were alive, as if it had a will of its own. And that was what scared him the most. What if this magic wasn't just a tool he could use, but something that could use him? What if it was something dangerous, something that could take control if he wasn't careful?

Elias ran a hand through his hair, gripping it tightly as he tried to make sense of everything. He needed answers, but he didn't know where to start. He thought about going to one of the professors, but that idea felt wrong. They were part of the academy, part of the system that he was beginning to suspect was keeping secrets from him. No, he couldn't trust them. He couldn't trust anyone.

Except… maybe Seraphina. As much as the thought of her unnerved him, he couldn't deny that she seemed to know something. Maybe she wasn't just being cryptic for the sake of it. Maybe she was trying to tell him something, something important. But how could he approach her? And even if he did, would she tell him the truth?

Elias sighed, leaning back against the bench. The night air was cool against his skin, but it did little to soothe the turmoil inside him. He felt lost, adrift in a sea of questions with no answers in sight. And the worst part was, he didn't know if he was more afraid of finding out the truth or of never finding it out at all.

He closed his eyes, trying to steady his breathing, trying to calm the storm inside him. But it was no use. The questions kept coming, relentless and unforgiving. What did Seraphina know? What did Quinn and Lyra know? And why did they seem so sure about it, so confident in their knowledge of him?

Elias opened his eyes and stared up at the stars again. He had always thought of them as a source of comfort, a reminder that there was something bigger out there, something beyond the struggles of everyday life. But now, they felt distant, unreachable, like the answers he so desperately sought.

He knew he couldn't avoid this forever. He would have to confront it, have to confront them. But for now, all he could do was sit here in the darkness, trying to make sense of the thoughts swirling in his mind, trying to find some semblance of peace amidst the chaos.

But deep down, Elias knew that peace was elusive. As long as these questions remained unanswered, as long as this magic remained a mystery, he would never be able to truly rest. And that thought was perhaps the most unsettling of all.

---

Elias sat there for hours, lost in thought, until the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon. The cool night air gave way to the warmth of the morning, but the unease in his heart remained. He knew that today, like every day from now on, would be overshadowed by these unanswered questions, by the mystery of the magic within him.

With a heavy sigh, Elias stood up and headed back to his room, his mind still plagued by doubt and uncertainty. But one thing was clear—he couldn't keep running from this. He would have to face it, face them, and find the answers he so desperately needed. No matter what the cost.
