"The business is done. You can take me back now."
"As you wish."
Rest, having finished his business with the Evern family, returned to the Rosemarie Marquisate's carriage, signaling the driver to depart. He knew there would be no reason to ever visit the Evern estate again. It was no longer his home, and it never would be.
As he sat in the carriage, leaning against the window with his chin resting on his hand, his thoughts lingered on the events that had just transpired in the house. His father, Lucas Evern, sunk in despair, and his stepmother, Lady Liza, screaming in madness. The people who had once tormented him now lay defeated. He had made them pay for all their cruelty. There was a sense of relief, a weight lifted from his shoulders. He had accomplished what he had set out to do.
But... why? Why do I still feel this emptiness? Rest thought, gazing out at the passing scenery.
