"Master!" Teresa, who had just stepped forward and accidentally encountered the young master, ran up to the man and knelt before him.
"FORGIVE ME, MASTER! I DIDN'T KNOW!" Teresa begged loudly, her hands pleading as she apologized to the young man.
Gabril's face showed confusion, but he quickly realized something and broke into a wide smile at Teresa's antics.
"Sorry, Master. Please forgive me for mistakenly thinking you were an intruder," Teresa continued to plead, bowing deeply before him.
Gabril knelt down, placing his hands on Teresa's shoulders and lifting her up to stand.
"Hah," Teresa quickly stood, ready and waiting before the young master.
"I'm prepared to receive my punishment, Master," she said, giving a respectful bow.
Gabril chuckled at Teresa's behavior, finding it quite amusing. "Alright," he said, then turned and walked into the house, uttering just that one word.
Teresa, puzzled by his intent, hurried after Gabril and stopped him. "Sorry, Master, what does 'alright' mean?" she asked, her face a mix of confusion and curiosity.
"Nothing," Gabril replied.
"No, Master, I must receive a punishment," Teresa insisted, her voice full of desperation.
"Alright, I'll give you a punishment tomorrow," Gabril said with a small laugh, then entered the house.
Teresa lowered her head and walked back to her own home, hitting her forehead in frustration at having acted so foolishly in front of her master.
She entered her room and saw Kenzo's jacket hanging on the wall. Smiling, she went over to it and took it to the bathroom to wash.
"What are you doing, washing clothes at this hour?" her mother asked suddenly, startling Teresa.
"Whose jacket is this?" her mother inquired.
"It's my future boyfriend's jacket," Teresa replied with a wide grin.
Her mother just shook her head and sat on the floor to prepare food for them both.
After washing the jacket, Teresa went outside to hang it up to dry. She looked up at the night sky, which seemed like it would stay clear all night. Returning inside, she sat on the floor with her mother to eat.
Grinning, Teresa shoved food into her mouth too quickly, causing her to choke.
"Water!" she gasped.
Her mother handed her a glass of water. Teresa drank it and patted her chest to help the food go down.
"See, if you eat, focus on that and stop grinning like a lunatic," her mother chided.
Teresa winced at her mother's comment but continued eating.
"I'll take care of the dishes, Mom. You rest," Teresa said.
She washed all the dishes and placed them on the rack. Her mother spread a thin mattress to rest on. Teresa looked at her with a sad expression, her earlier joy fading upon seeing her tired mother.
Teresa walked over and lay down beside her mother, hugging her. "Mom, I promise one day I'll be successful, and our lives will change," Teresa whispered.
"Just focus on your studies," her mother replied.
Teresa smiled, tears streaming down her face. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.
...
A bright morning began a new, beautiful day. Teresa woke up with enthusiasm and went to open the front door to retrieve the jacket she had washed the night before. Eager to return it to its owner, she was full of anticipation.
"Jacket, jacket!"
Teresa opened the door and focused on the jacket hanging there. Her body froze as she saw the jacket soaked from the rain.
"Rain," she said, approaching the jacket with a sad face.
"AAAA, WHY DID IT RAIN?" She shook her body in frustration, seeing the jacket drenched. "The weather forecast said no rain," Teresa had checked the weather forecast, but it was completely off.
Reluctantly, she went back inside, took a shower, and got ready for school.
Teresa brushed her hair into a ponytail and tied it with a small ribbon. She applied sunscreen to protect her skin from the sun.
"All set," she said, looking in the mirror. Her face was fresh and radiant. She then prepared her bag and books, put on her shoes, and left the house.
"Here's your lunch," her mother said, coming up to Teresa with a packed meal.
"Thank you, Mom," Teresa said, shaking her mother's hand before leaving. She paused for a moment to glance at the jacket.
"Goodbye, jacket. You better be dry by tomorrow," Teresa talked to the jacket, scolding the sky and pointing upward with a frustrated expression.
"Watch out, sky, if it rains again," she said as she headed off to school with renewed enthusiasm.
******
Gabril stepped out of his house with his mother. He saw Teresa talking to herself in front of the clothesline, pointing angrily at the sky. A subtle smile appeared on his face as he observed the girl's odd behavior.
"Be careful, dear," his mother said.
"Sure, Mom," Gabril replied as he got into the car and drove off.
*******
Teresa noticed a car pulling out of the house and saw the lady of the house who had just dropped her child off in the car.
"Good morning, ma'am," Teresa greeted with a wide smile.
"Good morning," the lady responded.
Teresa continued on her way out of the grand house but suddenly stopped when the lady called her again.
"Hey, Teresa, wait!" The lady approached and handed Teresa some pocket money.
"Buy yourself something nice," the woman said before going back inside.
"Thank you, ma'am," Teresa said, staring at the one hundred thousand rupiah in her hand. She pocketed the money and walked away from the large house.
Teresa walked along the street towards the main road. She noticed a car stopped at the edge of the complex and recognized it. "Isn't that the young master's car?" She had seen him get into it earlier.
As she passed by, she peered into the car, and suddenly the window rolled down as she was looking.
"Eh, Young Master!" Teresa stopped speaking when she saw the uniform her master was wearing. She realized they were in the same school, indicated by their matching uniforms.
"Get in," Gabril said, inviting her into the car.
"Me?" Teresa asked, pointing at herself.
"Yes, who else?" Gabril answered.
"No, Master, I'll take the bus," Teresa said, bowing.
"Get in," he ordered again.
Teresa looked up at him, and he looked back with a neutral expression.
"Alright, Master," Teresa said, walking around the car and opening the door. Before getting in, she accidentally saw Kenzo's car passing by. Her eyes widened as she watched the car and its occupants.
Beep beep!
Teresa was startled by the sudden sound of the car horn and quickly got in, sitting next to Gabril. Her face showed embarrassment as she sat silently, unsure of what to do.
"Sorry, Master, I feel uncomfortable sitting here," Teresa said to the man focused on driving.
"Why?" Gabril asked. "We're in the same school, after all," he replied casually.
Teresa smiled awkwardly, looking down and fidgeting with her nails due to her nervousness in her master's car.
"This is part of your punishment," Gabril said, glancing at Teresa.
"Punishment?" Teresa's eyes widened as she looked at Gabril.
"Yes, you said you wanted a punishment last night."
"Oh, right, Master," Teresa said, turning her gaze away.
The car entered the school grounds. All eyes were on the car that Teresa and Gabril were in, more specifically, Gabril's car. Every student looked amazed and fascinated, whispering and staring at the vehicle.
'Oh no, what's going to happen?' Teresa thought, feeling overwhelmed by the attention.
The car stopped in the parking lot, and all the students stopped to look at it.
"Don't you want to get out?" Gabril asked.
"Oh, yes, Master."
"Call me Gabril; we're the same age."
"Oh, y-yes, Gabril," Teresa replied nervously.
Gabril got out of the car, and Teresa heard cheers from many students, as if Gabril were a celebrity returning to school.
The door next to Teresa opened, and Gabril held it for her. Teresa bowed and covered her face as she stepped out of the car.
"Wow, who is she?"
"Wow, Gabril has a girlfriend."
"Who's that girl?"
Teresa heard the murmurs and thought, 'Everyone knows Gabril.' Why does everyone know Gabril?
"A new student."
"Yes, she's a new student."
Gabril reached for Teresa's hand, which was covering her face. All eyes were on Teresa with what felt like piercing gazes. She felt incredibly embarrassed.
Gabril guided Teresa into the school building, parting the crowd of students who were lined up to watch. Teresa walked with her head down.
"Kenzo."
Gabril stopped.
