“This is the last time we’ll need to move, okay?” Our mother leaned down so she was eye level with my sister. “Do you understand, sweetheart?”

“You promise?” Wet amethyst eyes met my mother’s and she hesitated. I saw her swallow hard before she pressed a kiss to my little sister’s forehead and closed the door of the car.

“Be good, okay girls.” She told us as she made her way to the passenger’s seat while my dad started the car.

“Okay.” The pout on her lips made her look even more adorable, but I knew my baby sister was sad to leave behind her new friends. She was only six, so she didn’t understand. But I was ten; I knew that mom’s promises were false. Because we never stop moving.
