It happened so fast that even Daemon's newly acquired form could barely process it.

The creature. His first instinct to protect Zina out of the way. Zina whirling them around. Her blood spraying like a fountain before his eyes.

It all happened so fast.

Daemon had always known that he possessed an animalistic nature. Everyone did. But the thing that gnawed at his chest the moment everything processed in his mind was something foreign to him.

It was something so scary that for the first time in his life, he found himself hesitant to face something… whatever that thing that gnawed at his chest was.
