Elian couldn't take his eyes off the ring on his finger. Every time he looked at it, he felt a swell of disbelief mingling with joy. It was like he'd stepped into a fairytale, one where, against all odds, he finally found a happy ending.
The ring sparkled softly, catching the afternoon light that poured through his window, and each glimmer seemed to whisper: This is real.
He smiled to himself, as he rotated his hand to see it from every angle.
"When are you going to stop staring at that ring, Lord Elian?" Niko teased, his voice breaking Elian's trance. He was lounging on the edge of the bed, eyebrows raised and an amused grin on his face.
Elian rolled his eyes, realizing he'd completely forgotten Niko was there. "When you stop calling me Lord Elian," he shot back, grinning.
