Bab 20: Chapter 19: Territory Function

[Ding! Would Host like to set the name of their new home?]
As Miles began to review the second Mission he had just completed, he was greeted with another notification, which distracted him. It would appear this message prompt is now preventing from seeing his rewards until he sets a name for his new home.
'Hmm. Should I go with something cringe, or just a simple name? I don't know how long I will be staying here for...', Miles mused, wondering if he would take up long-term residence as a fox here in Cold Lake. Or will he find himself travelling to other parts of the Northern Territories?
'Considering that this is the MCU, and Wolverine's world in particular, I might piss some people off by doing this. It would be funny to see the future X-Men react to this.', Miles continued, before he decided on a name.
[Ding! The name, 'Tree of the Divine Fox' has been set as Host's home.]
'Such a silly name...No one is going to see this, right?', Miles retorted. He placed one of his paws over his eyes before he shook his head left to right. After that, he immediately prompted the system message to vanish. After this message disappeared, another one soon followed.
[Ding! Host can now claim rewards from completed Mission - A New Home.]
Taking a moment to recollect himself, Miles heard the notification he wanted to hear.
And there was something to immediately point out too.
Mission rewards weren't automatically deposited into his inventory the moment the Mission was completed. He could hold onto them. If Miles ever found himself in a pickle, he could pop the rewards to turn the tide of battle into his favor. It could be anything from being a full heal of his health and stamina should the mission reward it, additional stat points to deliver a final blow, or granting a new Skill to catch a target off guard.
Miles liked that. Happy at such a thought, Miles willed his system, and claimed the rewards from his completed Mission. A flurry of notifications stroked his mind, causing a momentary daze. He was only expecting one or two, but it was several!
[Ding! Host has received 50 EXP and 5 free Stat Points. Territory Function has been unlocked. [New Skill - Marking Lv1 (0/100)] has been created. Book, History of the Wolverine has been deposited into Host's Inventory.]
[Ding! Host has risen to Level 5. Related Skills have triggered.]
Miles immediately paused, seeing these notifications appear before him. He disregarded the level up notification, and instead let his eyes wander to the latter. The one that introduced a new system function, Territory.
'Territory Function?', Miles's eyes lit up. 'That isn't what I think it is, is it?' Miles wondered. While thinking that, his eyes landed onto his main status page. It was here that he could view his existing functions. A new page appeared, which could be toggled off and on at will. Before this, he had four functions that could be toggled, and now, he had five.
The Status Window. Missions List. Inventory. Reputation. And now, Territory.
Miles immediately did a motion of his paw while he remained curled up, acting as if he pressed a button. He was immediately greeted with more notifications as he started reviewing his new Territory function.
[Ding! A new function of the Divine Fox System is now online, Territory.]
[Ding! The Territory Function will allow Host to create territories at their own discretion. Eventually, Host will be able to claim others' territories, and even engage in territory battles, depending on the time and place. Welcome to the Animal Kingdom.]
'The Animal Kingdom...', Miles uttered.
Miles just had a revelation to accept this new life of his, but it really is hitting him now after seeing these new messages appear.
'Guess it's going to be survival of the fittest out here. Not that I don't mind. Animals and monsters don't have such a structure in place like humans do to where they can govern over others. Out here is just the pure wilderness...', Miles continued, his gaze turned serious.
As if it reacted to his thoughts, Miles's tail suddenly started to thump in excitement, causing him to look at it.
'Am I getting excited just knowing the fact I can claim all of this land for myself?', Miles wondered. His tail continued to pitter back and forth, hitting his face as he was still curled up into a ball.
Miles then heard another notification pop into his mind, causing his gaze to turn serious again.
[Ding! A new Mission has been tasked to Host - Subjugate the Wolf Pack]
[Subjugate the Wolf Pack]
-Task #1 - Become the leader of the wolf pack that has been lurking around the forests in Cold Lake, or kill them.
-Task #2 - Expand your territory to at least 30% of Cold Lake.
Requirements:
-First Evolution
Time Limit: One Year
Rewards: 3 Levels, 20 Stat Points, Species Change Coupon x1, Skill Upgrade Coupon x1, Title Function

'Wolves...?', Miles thought, confused as to what the new Mission had just tasked him with. He did hear a bunch of howling earlier in the night. It sounded like quite a few wolves were lurking around. Miles didn't pay much attention to it. But then, his thoughts wandered to where he was brought to, Cold Lake. It was the same town that Wolverine grew up in.
Miles's gaze shifted back to what had just been deposited into his inventory too. A new book, History of the Wolverine. His thoughts started to churn. 'Now that I think about it, didn't the Wolverine join a pack of wolves early on, living out here...?', Miles thought.
'But why is this Mission triggering now? Shouldn't Wolverine still be a newborn?", Miles continued. Doubt grew in his eyes as his gaze wandered to his Inventory. To be specific, a new book that was deposited into it, 'History of the Wolverine'.
Miles pressed the button, and his Inventory glowed in a bright light. Poof!
Before his eyes, an old history-like book suddenly popped into existence, startling Miles. He didn't expect to see the space before him twist and distort, only to drop a physical book. On its cover had a sole figure of a man dressed in yellow and black spandex, hidden behind a mask. Claws protruded out of his fists, appearing very domineering.
"Yip!?", Miles exclaimed seeing this book appear out of thin air next to him as it fell on the ground. As it collapsed, the pages turned open, revealing a part of the book. Miles saw a little piece of paper fall out of the book, landing his way. It had cute handwriting written on it. It didn't contain a lot of words written on it, but it still attracted Miles's attention. Once he started reading it, it left him silenced.
'Sorry my cute little fox, but I placed you here one year before Wolverine leaves Cold Lake. Being deceitful is in our nature!', The words said. Miles even saw a little paw print off to the side, likely coming from Yozora.
'...', Miles tried to find words to retort this, but reading this left him silent.
'Well shit.', Miles thought. His eyes remained on the card before him. 'And here I thought I had over ten years before the story kicked off. You really have that high expectations of me, Yozora?', Miles retorted again.
Well, a little over half a day passed, and Miles already reached Level 5. He was progressing pretty quickly, now that he thought about it. He did find the time limit of one year for his new Mission suspicious as well. But considering where his current year was, everything was starting to click.
Miles only had one year to develop to the best of his abilities. Would he be able to submit the wolves and become their leader before Wolverine sets off?
Anticipation appeared in Miles's eyes. His tail started thumping again, and became distracted by another notification.
[Ding! A couple moments have passed as the Host's tail thumped in excitement. Stamina decreased by one.]
[Current Stamina: 114/125]
'You really are taking this too seriously aren't you?', Miles retorted his system.
Shaking that thought aside, Miles's eyes wandered to his system again, and started to review his level up now. He was level 5, and sure enough, he needed 160 experience points this time!
Just like that, he acquired 2 more points in Strength, 2 in Endurance, 1 in Agility, and 5 in Luck. Additionally, he had four free stat points thanks to leveling up in the night. And on top of all of that, he was given five more points from his Mission!
Miles could now use nine points in any way.
He didn't hold off on using them, and decided to use them right away. He placed 5 points in Strength, 2 in Agility, and 2 in Endurance. Miles had a quick glance at his new stats, leaving him satisfied.

'Today really was such an eventful day, wasn't it?', Miles mused, recalling everything that had happened to him.
He had created several Skills, leveled up five times, and got a first taste in learning how to hunt as a fox. He was already looking forward to hunting some more, and attaining his First Evolution!
And just like that, Miles fell asleep listening to the cold winds of the ongoing snowstorm. He hadn't recalled a night where he had such a deep sleep. It was one of the best sleeps he had ever had.
That night, Miles dreamt of roasted duck meat.
