Chapter 189: Quadruple Champions

"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!"

"Bruno Fernandes! The Portuguese player scores a stunning long-range goal, his 48th goal of 2014. For a midfielder, this is an astonishing number! He is also the third-highest scorer of 2014, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo with 61 goals and Lionel Messi with 58 goals."

With Christmas approaching, except for the Premier League, which has a hectic Christmas schedule, all major European leagues have paused for the winter break. The players' goal statistics are essentially set.

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the top scorer of 2014, scoring 61 goals for Real Madrid and the Portuguese national team. Close behind is the other half of the legendary duo, Lionel Messi, who scored 58 goals for Barcelona and the Argentine national team in 2014. Next is Bruno Fernandes with 47 goals.

After scoring, Bruno was extremely excited. He turned and ran towards the stands, waving his arms and shouting. On the sidelines, Allegri was shouting and making substitutions, bringing on Spanish striker Morata to replace the tall forward Llorente. Guidolin also made a change, bringing on Badu to replace Kante.

As Kante left the field, the Udinese fans in the stands at Al Sadd Stadium all stood up and applauded. The French midfielder had performed perfectly today, significantly limiting Juventus's midfield attack.

The cheers from Al Sadd Stadium continued from Bruno's goal until the end of the match. Allegri yelled commands from the sidelines, trying everything to score, but Juventus couldn't break through Udinese's defense again and had to accept the 2-3 result.

When the referee blew the final whistle, Al Sadd Stadium turned into a Udinese celebration. Thousands of traveling Udinese fans cheered, hugged, and shouted wildly. This victory marked Udinese's fourth trophy in 2014, a dreamlike year for the club. In its hundred-year history, Udinese had never won any significant trophy, but now they had secured four in one year. It was almost unbelievable.

For any team, winning four trophies in a season is a shocking achievement. In the history of Italian football, only the legendary 2010 Inter Milan team, which won five trophies in one year, surpassed this achievement. That year, Inter won the Serie A, Coppa Italia, Champions League, Italian Super Cup, and Club World Cup, becoming the first and only Italian team to achieve such a feat.

Reflecting on this, Bruno felt a surge of pride and strength, knowing they were making history. He believed all Udinese players felt the same. When the players lifted coach Francesco Guidolin high into the air, Udinese fans in the stands held up banners proclaiming them quadruple champions. Even many Qatari fans displayed banners encouraging Udinese.

With Udinese's victory over Juventus at Al Sadd Stadium in Qatar, their perfect 2014 came to a close. Throughout the year, Bruno played 57 matches for Udinese, scoring 42 goals and providing 38 assists, an extraordinary record.

In Serie A, Bruno played 35 matches, scoring 19 goals and making 22 assists, nearly achieving a double 20. In European competitions, he played 17 matches across the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League qualifiers, and group stages, scoring 21 goals and making 12 assists, another impressive double-double.

For the Portuguese national team, Bruno played five matches in 2014, scoring six goals and providing three assists. This means that in 57 matches in 2014, Bruno scored 48 goals and made 41 assists, directly contributing to 89 goals. Among active players, this ranks third, only behind Messi's 91 goals and 22 assists in 2012 and 59 goals and 36 assists in 2011.

In the history of football, this ranks fifth for a single calendar year, behind Messi's two records, Gerd Müller's 97 goals (85 goals and 12 assists) in 1972, and Pelé's 96 goals (75 goals and 21 assists) in 1958.

At 20 years old, Bruno achieved these numbers as a midfielder, which makes his assists particularly impressive. His 41 assists in 2014 are the most in a single calendar year, breaking Messi's previous record of 36 assists in 2011. Additionally, Bruno is the first player in football history to achieve a double 40+ in goals and assists in a single calendar year.

When Gazzetta dello Sport published Bruno's 2014 statistics, it caused a sensation in the football world. Fans and pundits realized just how exceptional the 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder's year had been.

Many fans noted that if Bruno had participated in the World Cup in Brazil, his stats might have been even more impressive, potentially surpassing Pelé and Gerd Müller and coming close to Messi's 2012 record.

Despite Bruno's outstanding performance, he did not make it into the top three for the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or, leading many fans to believe he was unfairly overlooked. They argued that if the voting period had extended to the winter break, Bruno might have made the top three.

Some fans felt that Udinese was holding Bruno back. They believed that if Bruno played for a bigger club, his stats and rankings would be even higher, potentially making him a strong contender for the Ballon d'Or.

In terms of individual achievements, Bruno's 48 goals and 41 assists were on par with Ronaldo's 61 goals and 22 assists. While Ronaldo had a slight edge in goal count, Bruno's overall contributions were greater. Yet, Ronaldo was the favorite for the Ballon d'Or, while Bruno didn't even make the top ten.

This led many of Bruno's fans to believe that he needed to leave Udinese to achieve greater success and recognition. They argued that playing for a top club would enhance his chances of winning major titles like league championships and the Champions League, as well as individual honors like the Ballon d'Or.

Even some Udinese fans felt that Bruno's talents deserved a bigger stage. Although they didn't want to see him leave, they acknowledged that he had given everything to the club and deserved a chance to shine on a larger platform. Udinese had a history of developing great players who eventually moved on to bigger clubs.
