Vladimir:

"See, you're safe." I said, looking the woman in the eye as the two of us sat at our table.

No one dared look at her, even the men knew to maintain and contain their wives. The last thing that they would want to do is get in conflict with a Pakhan like myself.

"Why don't they care? Mother always told me that I was an embarrassment to look at, it was one of the reasons even when sick, they refused to take me out of the house unless everyone was most likely asleep. Neither one of the people here seem to be sparing me a second glance." She asked, making my stomach churn. Even her addressing the woman as mother annoyed me at this point.
