Kael made his way through the passage. Earlier, when he was leaving, he had seen the longing in the girl's eyes. She didn't want to be separated from him, and it made Kael smile. But he needed to stay away from her. He didn't know why, but the rush of her emotions was frustrating him. When the minister called the girl cursed, and Kael recalled the faint hitch in the girl's breath, his first instinct was to kill anyone or anything causing her discomfort. And he did. But what puzzled him was the sudden, intense desire to hold her hand at every turn, as if his own comfort depended on it. Whenever she tried to withdraw her hand, he felt a pang of discomfort, like a cat deprived of its favorite toy.
