Bab 21: Back To London & New Opportunities

The bus ride back to London was filled with a mixture of exhaustion and quiet celebration. The Fulham U21s had fought hard for their draw against Everton U21s, and the satisfaction of their performance lingered in the air. Marcus sat near the window, his mind still buzzing with the excitement of his goal.

The players chatted amongst themselves, discussing the highlights of the match and sharing their thoughts on their performances. Harvey Elliott was particularly animated, his enthusiasm infectious as he recounted the moments that had led to their equalizing goal.

As the bus rolled on, Marcus felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He pulled it out to see a message from his dad, Ethan.

Ethan: "Proud of you, son! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get home."

Marcus smiled, typing a quick response.

Marcus: "Thanks, Dad. It was amazing. See you soon."

He put his phone away and turned to look out the window, the scenery of the English countryside passing by. The journey home gave him time to reflect on the match and the path ahead. He knew there was still much to learn and many challenges to face, but he felt ready for them.

Several hours later, the team arrived back in London. The players gathered their bags and made their way off the bus, their movements sluggish from the long journey. Marcus spotted his dad waiting for him, a proud smile on his face.

"Great game, Marcus," Ethan said, pulling him into a hug. "I watched the whole thing. That goal was fantastic."

"Thanks, Dad," Marcus replied, his face lighting up. "It felt incredible to score."

As they walked towards the car, Ethan began to speak about something else that had been on his mind. "I've been in touch with an old friend from my playing days. He's well-connected and has agreed to help us find you an agent."

Marcus's eyes widened with surprise and excitement. "For real? That's amazing! What's his name?"

"His name is Paul Roberts," Ethan explained. "He was a solid player in his time and has since moved into the business side of football. He's helped a lot of young players get their start."

They got into the car and drove home, Marcus's mind racing with possibilities. Having an agent would be a significant step forward in his career, opening doors to opportunities he might not otherwise have access to. He felt a surge of gratitude towards his dad for always supporting him and helping him pursue his dreams.

Meanwhile, back at the Fulham training ground, Coach Anderson sat alone in his office. The dim light from his desk lamp cast a soft glow over the room as he clicked through various match highlights on his laptop. He paused on one video, watching intently.

The screen showed Alex Williams, the prodigious talent from Carrington, in action. Anderson watched as Alex effortlessly maneuvered past defenders, his speed and precision on full display. In the video, Alex scored a hat-trick with a combination of clinical finishing and creative flair.

Anderson leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. He admired Alex's talent but also recognized the pressure that came with such high expectations. He thought about Marcus and the potential he had seen in him. Though not as widely recognized as Alex, Marcus possessed a raw talent and determination that could take him far.

As the video ended, Anderson closed his laptop and sighed. The journey for these young players was fraught with challenges and competition. He hoped that Marcus, with the right guidance and support, could carve out his path to success.

He glanced at the team roster pinned on his wall, the names of his players listed alongside their positions. Marcus and Harvey Elliott stood out, their performances promising a bright future. Anderson made a mental note to keep a close eye on their development, ensuring they had every opportunity to succeed.

With a final look at the roster, Anderson stood up and turned off the light, leaving his office in darkness. He knew the season ahead would be demanding, but he was ready to guide his team through it, one match at a time.

Back at home, Marcus and Ethan sat down for dinner, discussing the next steps. "We'll meet with Paul Roberts next week," Ethan said. "He'll help us understand what to expect and how to navigate the process of finding an agent."

Marcus nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. "I can't wait. This could be a game-changer for me."
