Mr. Wright's mouth opened and closed, searching for words. "We...uh...concluded that Benjamin might have left the gun loaded and unsecured. Alcohol was found in his system…perhaps he was drunk, basking in the afternoon sun beside the pool...Valerie saw the gun, tried to play with it, and...accidentally shot him in the head."
Greg's expression turned incredulous. "That's quite a stretch, Alexander. A child wouldn't know how to handle a gun, let alone shoot someone with precision."
Mr. Wright's face reddened with embarrassment. He didn't like that his intelligence was being questioned by someone he was older than. "It was an accident, Greg. A tragic accident…"
Greg's voice turned cold. "I've heard this story before, Alexander. From James and Mrs. Martha. But the details never added up. How did y'all come about this story?"
