Bab 4: The first Encounter

Opening his eyes, Jake found himself in an entirely different location—a ruined village with destroyed stones scattered around him.

Without wasting time, he immediately raised his gun and surveyed his surroundings, looking for any potential danger. After ten minutes of thorough scanning, he finally relaxed.

"So I'm really in the Naruto world, huh?"

Looking around, Jake didn't find anyone to talk to or trade with. The landing location was random, and he had to quickly find a trading partner to mark the trade in this world.

"Only two days, and after each shuttle, I must appear within fifty miles of the trading mark, which is the trading partner? This is a shitty rule. I need to find a long-lived trading partner."

"And there is only one chance, and I can't return."

Jake was a bit anxious. If he didn't find a trading partner within two days, he would lose coordination with this world, and the trading system would refresh again. Finding someone willing to trade and long-lived within two days was challenging, and once the world trading mark was bound, it would take at least two years to change freely.

"Shit, why is this system so complicated? Can't it be simpler? And this shitty weather—it's been raining all the time!"

Fortunately, Jake had brought complete daily necessities, including umbrellas and raincoats. However, he had been walking in the wilderness for two hours and had no idea where he was. If he couldn't find anyone within two days, he would miss the Naruto world.

As a wealthy young man with plenty of time, Jake had practiced some martial arts and physical training in addition to his gun training. Walking for a few hours was relatively easy for him. Still, he didn't know how long it would take to find someone, let alone a suitable trading partner.

Jake walked for another hour or two and finally found a place resembling a building ruin, which could serve as a temporary shelter from the rain. He needed to rest and figure out which direction was safe and could lead to a suitable trading partner. If he encountered danger, Jake would rather return to the Marvel world and give up the Naruto world than continue trading.

"Is anyone there?"

Jake, never leaving his firearms, shouted out and then carefully observed for a few minutes. He released a drone to search the surroundings. Only after confirming that no one was around did he decide to rest there for a while before continuing his journey.

He needed to replenish his energy. If he wasn't worried about attracting danger, Jake would have taken out a steak to cook himself a delicious meal. But now, he could only eat some chocolate, energy drinks, and dried meat.

While eating, Jake used the drone to explore the surrounding environment. The reconnaissance range was limited, and he received no helpful information.

"Four hours have passed, 44 hours left."

Jake looked at his watch, then suddenly heard a slight sound. He immediately put down the energy drink in his hand, stood up with his gun, and shouted in the direction of the sound.

"Who's there?"

After yelling loudly, Jake waited for more than ten seconds, but there was still no response. He fired a few shots in the direction of the sound, the bullets hitting the ground and the wall with a banging noise.

"I repeat, if you don't come out, don't blame me."

"Don't, don't shoot. I'll come out."

After Jake's warning, a slightly immature voice came from behind a large boulder. A little boy with orange hair slowly walked out, looking about ten years old, his face full of stubbornness.

Although he was a child, Jake did not relax his vigilance. His gun still pointed at the boy as he asked sternly, "Are you the only one here? What are you doing here? I just checked the area, and there was no one. What's your purpose for coming here?"

"I'm looking for food. I'm a wanderer. Because I was too hungry, I came here to see if anything was useful," the boy replied nervously, sensing the malice in Jake's eyes. The stranger didn't look like a ninja, but he was older, and the unknown weapon he had just used shattered the stones on the ground. If it hit them, they would die.

"There's no village around here, and you're alone looking for food? Kid, you don't seem very honest…"

Even though he was a child, Jake always kept a safe distance. No cover could allow others to approach. He would return to the Marvel world immediately if he sensed something was wrong.

The boy quickly waved his hands and said, "I'm telling the truth. I just wanted to find a ninja on the battlefield to learn ninjutsu from and happened to pass by here, so I wanted to take shelter from the rain!"

"Looking for a ninja master?"

Jake furrowed his brows and repeated the words. He looked at the boy and his orange hair, then asked, "What's your name?"

"Yahiko, my name is Yahiko!"

It was indeed this guy. Now it should be the time of the Second Ninja War, and Yahiko and his two companions had not yet become apprentices of Jiraiya. If Yahiko said he was preparing to go to the battlefield to find a ninja master, then this should be the battlefield of the Land of Rain.

Jake didn't lower his guard just because he met one of the series characters. He didn't forget that even children in this world could be cold-blooded killers. But since it was just Yahiko, the danger was slightly lower but couldn't be completely ruled out.

If he couldn't find anyone else, they could at least bind the interdimensional trading mark with either Nagato or Konan. They both had a long lifespan, unlike Yahiko.

"Call your other two companions out. This is for you three."

Jake used his backpack as a cover and took out three pieces of bread and meat from the inventory, throwing them to Yahiko. The easiest way to gain the trust of these cautious, starving kids was to offer them what they desired the most, food.

Yahiko's eyes widened at the sight of the food. He realized the stranger knew about Nagato and Konan, and that the strange weapon had been removed, reducing the perceived danger.

"Konan, Nagato, come out. There's food; he's a good person!"

Jake couldn't help but smile at the naive thought. The definition of a "good person" was too easy. He was a businessman and capitalist, not a good person.

After Yahiko shouted, two raggedy little kids walked out from behind the rocks. They only made a sound when they got close, impressing Jake with their survival skills in such a chaotic era.

Looking at the two kids, Jake's attention was focused on the red-haired boy whose hair covered his eyes before he looked away. He didn't want to raise any suspicion about him.

If Nagato was here, then Zetsu might be nearby. Jake, just a merchant without chakra, hoped Zetsu wouldn't be crazy enough to kill strangers around Nagato at this time. So, he felt safe for the time being.
