Bab 35: The Attack

The sun had just begun rising when Locus left his room, ordered a coffee, and sat down back in the living room to enjoy the morning.

After finishing the cup, he looked out of the window. The sun was almost up.

"Genken, when do we have to get to the spot where we wait for the carriage?"

No one answered.

"Genken?"

Locus listened closely. There was no sound coming out of Genken's room. He knocked on the door, but no one answered. Locus turned the handle and peeked inside.

"Genken!"

Said guy was leaning against a wall while being sound asleep. Locus tapped him in the shoulder.

"Genken, wake up!"

"Hm?"

Genken opened his eyes and looked around the room.

"I think I dozed off. The wall was too comfortable."

"When do we have to be at the place where we'll wait for the carriage?"

"Uhh..."

Genken opened one of the curtains and looked out of the window.

"Is there something you still have to do before we can go?"

Locus was already geared up with one hand on his katana's handle.

"No, I'm ready."

"Perfect."

Genken touched Locus' shoulder, and the both of them suddenly stood under the bright sun.

"Argh!"

Genken's face looked like he was filled with pain.

"I forgot we'd teleport onto a field without shadow."

Locus just watched the show as Genken turned around multiple times in search for a tree or something to save him from the sun.

"I hope we don't have to wait too long. I hate this heat."

"It's just morning."

"That's exactly my problem. I don't want to find out how it feels when the sun is shining right on the top of our heads."

They, in fact, didn't have to wait long. About ten minutes later, Locus spotted a carriage on the empty road.

"There is a carriage coming!"

He turned around.

"Genken!"

Genken was lying on the ground and sleeping. He used his white coat to protect himself from the sun. Locus tapped his shoulder with a little more force than in the morning.

"Wake up! A carriage is coming!"

"Hm? Sure, whatever you say..."

"Come on!"

Genken forced himself up.

"Alright."

He took a look at the carriage in the distance.

"Yup, that's the delivery."

He turned to Locus.

"The plan is the following: You jump inside of there, grab one of the many boxes, and come straight back to me. I'll get us out of here."

"I thought we would fight them?"

"Why should we? We just want one of their boxes. Fighting would be a waste of time."

"But then the Mastermind Guild won't know it was us?"

"That's fine. After all, you want to be known as someone strong and not as a thief, right?"

"I suppose."

"Then go get a box!"

"What if someone tries to stop me?"

"I don't care. But he should neither follow you nor should he die."

"Okay."

Locus and Genken walked up to the road until they were only about 25 meters away from it.

Locus went down in starting position like someone who was getting ready for a sprint.

The guys in black uniforms who were watching from inside the wagon looked a little bit confused.

When the carriage reached the point with the shortest distance to Locus, the ladder suddenly launched himself in the direction of the carriage with an incomprehensible speed.

Like a bullet, Locus shot himself in the direction of the wangon's entrance.

When he reached it, he suddenly stopped himself, making him appear right behind the carriage for the blink of an eye.

In the next, he had already vanished again and was suddenly standing inside the wagon.

The members of the Mastermind Guild were still looking outside and trying to find the mysterious man who had just appeared in front of their eyes.

Locus, on the other hand, took one of the boxes that all looked the same to him and vanished again.

Even though the people inside the wagon all seemed to look away, Locus still had the feeling he was being observed.

With the box under his arm, he launched himself out of the wagon and stopped about 50 meters away from it to turn around by 90° and launch himself in Genken's direction.

Locus stretched out his empty hand and touched Genken's chest while being on the best way to pass right through him.

When Locus touched Genken, both of them teleported onto a different clearing with their bodies stuck in the ground.

When Genken teleported into an object, the object would get pushed to the side and replaced by him like a nail entering a piece of wood.

"Ouch! That hurt!"

"This was the only real possibility for me to stop you. I told you dozens of times to be stiff when moving fast. Otherwise, your head might have left your head just now."

Genken teleported the both of them onto the grass.

"I suppose everything went according to plan?"

"Yup."

Locus put down the box.

"They all looked the same. I just grabbed this one."

"Then how about we open it up and see what's inside?"

I was thinking about including this in the "actual" story, but in case you didn't really get that: The whole maneuver took less than a second.
