Bab 28: Chapter 26: A Day at the Mall
Kang was finally recovered enough to return to school, and despite his protests, Seraphina still hadn't left his side. Her presence was a comforting constant, and unlike usual, Kang didn't really run into any problems throughout the day. The school day passed uneventfully, and as the final bell rang, Kang and Seraphina decided to spend the rest of the day together.
"How about we head to the mall?" Seraphina suggested, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
Kang nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Sure, sounds good."
They left school and made their way to the mall. It was bustling with activity, people moving in every direction, the air filled with the sounds of chatter and laughter. As they walked through the corridors, they spotted an ability gauge vendor.
"Hey, want to check it out?" Kang asked, nodding toward the vendor.
Seraphina grinned. "Why not? Let's see what they've got."
As they approached the vendor, they noticed a fair-skinned woman with light pink hair and light amber eyes arguing with the staff. She wore a black choker with a crystal in the middle, a black low-cut blouse, and pink pants. Her eyes glowed with a pink hue, indicating she was using her ability.
"But I refuse to accept this!" she yelled, her voice full of frustration. "My level is not just 3.8!"
The vendor staff looked nervous, trying to calm her down. "Ma'am, the gauge doesn't lie. It says you're 3.8."
Kang and Seraphina exchanged glances. "Seems like she's having a rough time," Kang muttered.
The woman turned, noticing them for the first time. "What are you looking at?" she snapped, her eyes narrowing.
"We're just here to check out the vendor," Seraphina replied calmly.
The woman scoffed. "Don't bother. These things are broken." She held up her hand, charging a destructive ball of condensed energy. "My ability, Grenadier, is way stronger than what this stupid gauge says."
Kang stepped forward, his expression neutral. "Why don't you calm down? No need to cause a scene."
The woman's eyes flashed with anger. "You think you can tell me what to do? Who do you think you are?"
"Kang," he replied simply. "And I'm just suggesting you relax."
Before the situation could escalate further, the woman lashed out, throwing the energy ball towards the vendor's stall. The crowd gasped as the ball exploded on impact, causing a small shockwave that knocked over a few displays.
Security personnel immediately rushed over, shouting orders to control the situation. "Ma'am, step away from the vendor and calm down!" one of them ordered.
The woman sneered, charging another energy ball in her hand. "I'll show you all how strong I am!"
Before she could launch another attack, Kang swiftly moved, grabbing her wrist and twisting it to force her to release the energy. "Enough!" he shouted, his voice firm.
The security team seized the opportunity to restrain her, pulling her away from the scene. "That's enough, miss. You're coming with us," one of them said sternly.
As they escorted her away, she continued to shout. "This isn't over! I'll prove how powerful I am!"
The vendor, shaken but unharmed, sighed in relief. "Thank you," he said to Kang and Seraphina. "I don't know what got into her."
"No problem," Kang replied, dusting himself off. "Just doing what anyone would."
"Please, be careful," Seraphina added, her tone gentle.
The vendor nodded. "I will. Thank you again." Then, noticing Kang and Seraphina's interest in the ability gauge, he smiled. "How about I give you a free test as a thank you?"
Seraphina nodded eagerly. "Sure, I'll go first."
She stepped up to the vendor, who placed his hand on hers. After a few moments, he nodded appreciatively. "You're an 8," he said, clearly impressed. "That's one of the highest levels I've ever seen. As a reward, you get this." He handed her a stuffed bear, its fur soft and plush.
Seraphina beamed, clutching the bear. "Thank you."
Kang shook his head when offered the test. "I'm good, thanks."
With the commotion behind them, Kang and Seraphina continued their date. They wandered through various stores, trying on clothes and teasing each other about different styles. Seraphina found a sleek, elegant dress that accentuated her grace, while Kang picked out a rugged leather jacket that matched his stoic demeanor.
After shopping, they headed to the food court. The aroma of different cuisines filled the air, and they finally settled on a small, cozy diner serving a mix of comfort food. They ordered burgers, fries, and milkshakes, chatting and laughing as they enjoyed their meal.
"You know, I think that vendor was right," Kang said, taking a bite of his burger. "You do have one of the highest levels around."
Seraphina blushed, poking at her fries. "Yeah, but it's not just about the level. It's how you use your ability."
Kang nodded thoughtfully. "True. But it's still impressive."
As the evening drew to a close, they left the mall, their shopping bags in tow. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the city. As they walked home, the night began to creep in, the streetlights casting long shadows.
Kang suddenly felt a strange sensation. Turning around, he noticed someone following them. The man was see-through, his outline barely visible in the dim light. When Kang made eye contact, the man looked down and saw he was only partially invisible. Panicking, the man turned and tried to run away.
"Wait!" Kang called out, but the man was already disappearing into the night.
Seraphina frowned. "Who was that?"
"I don't know," Kang replied, his brows furrowing. "But something tells me we haven't seen the last of him."
They continued their walk home, the incident lingering in their minds.
