"How many times do I have to tell you? Spread the batter evenly before adding the ingredients. And why do you always put your wing on the griddle? Are you trying to get me arrested?" Heath sighed, sitting in his chair and looking at Farfetch'd. He felt utterly exhausted.
Farfetch'd's determination was commendable, but it was causing Heath a lot of trouble. All the money he earned in the morning was spent on ingredients, and now Farfetch'd had ruined ten batches of crepes.
Ten batches! Heath's heart was bleeding. Seeing Farfetch'd's determination to keep going, Heath realized he needed to find a solution fast, or Farfetch'd would bankrupt him.
Heath also noticed the edges of Farfetch'd's wings were singed, causing him even more concern.
If wasting ingredients was a minor issue, Farfetch'd constantly putting its wing on the hot griddle was a major one. The league was very protective of Farfetch'd.
If anyone saw this, Officer Jenny would probably rush over to arrest Heath for 'trying to roast Farfetch'd wings.'
"Alright, I'll guide you through it once," Heath said, wiping his hands. He decided to personally hold Farfetch'd's wings and teach it.
With Heath's help, Farfetch'd managed to make a decent crepe. Heath took a bite—still a bit raw, indicating Farfetch'd needed to control the heat better.
Control the heat?
Heath remembered the TM he got in the morning. Would teaching Farfetch'd Fire Punch help?
Heath wasn't sure if Farfetch'd could learn it, but he decided to try, trusting his special ability.
Heath took out the TM, a disc labeled "Fire Punch," resembling the bootleg CDs sold on the streets. This left Heath puzzled—how was he supposed to use it?
He checked Farfetch'd but found no place to insert a CD.
[Do you want Farfetch'd to learn Fire Punch?]
Heath was delighted and quickly confirmed. Fortunately, his ability was strong enough to simplify things.
The disc disappeared after Heath confirmed, and Farfetch'd seemed dazed for a moment before looking at Heath in confusion, making soft quacking sounds.
"Try again now," Heath said, guiding Farfetch'd through making another crepe. This time, Farfetch'd managed the heat better, and the crepe was edible, though the taste left much to be desired.
Feeling anxious, Heath watched Farfetch'd make another crepe, intervening when necessary. Finally, Farfetch'd placed a crepe on a plate.
[Farfetch'd made a breakfast crepe, and you have received a special reward]
[You have received a GS Ball]
Heath was stunned. What kind of reward was this? What was a GS Ball?
It sounded like a Poké Ball, but Heath couldn't open it. Although he tried to bargain with his ability, it didn't seem to have any communicative function, leaving Heath disappointed.
"Although I don't know what it's for, I'll keep it for now," Heath said, shaking his head. The GS Ball looked familiar, like something from a movie, but he couldn't recall which one.
Still, it looked nice, so Heath decided to use it as a decoration.
Farfetch'd, having successfully made its first crepe, was ecstatic, waving its leek and laughing proudly.
Heath couldn't help but laugh. It was just one crepe—fried rice and other dishes were still waiting.
"Farfetch'd, let's go home," Heath said, patting Farfetch'd's fluffy head.
"Leek!" Farfetch'd nodded and followed Heath towards the Officer Jenny dormitory area.
When Heath returned, Sister Maple hadn't come back yet, giving him some peace. He wanted to use her computer to look up rumors about Viridian Forest but found it couldn't connect to the internet.
"A white figure... What could that be?" Heath wondered. Though curiosity killed the cat, it also drove human progress.
Besides, since his ability marked it as an important clue, Heath decided to trust it.
From the clue, Heath knew there might be a fast, white Pokémon in Viridian Forest.
"What kind of Pokémon could it be? Something white..." Heath was puzzled. He remembered some Pokémon, but none specifically white.
As dusk fell, Maple returned, exhausted. Heath could tell from the strong smell of sweat when she entered.
"Oh, Heath! You must be a god—coming home to such delicious food is amazing!" She hugged him, almost making him drop the spoon he was holding.
"Sister Maple!" Heath was exasperated. She was in her twenties but still acted like a child.
"Ha, Heath is angry~" Maple teased, letting go and sitting down.
Heath, knowing her usual mature demeanor, handed her a dry towel.
"You're all sweaty. Change your clothes or you'll catch a cold," Heath said, concerned.
Maple was the first kind person Heath met after crossing over, willing to take him in and care for him. She looked like all the Officer Jennys but with bigger eyes.
She was a good person, becoming the captain of Viridian City's security at a young age. She even lent Heath the money to start his food cart. To Heath, she was like an elder sister.
"Catch a cold? With my body? Not a chance... Arcanine!" Maple skillfully picked up a piece of chicken with her chopsticks and summoned her Arcanine, which stood proudly beside her.
