Bab 41: How to Kidnap a Girl?

Ru turned to face his true love. On the sudden, he was punched in the eye. That bright blue eye was sealed with the mark of the Djinn.

"Ouch!" Ru stumbled from the punch's force and hit his back against the shelf. Bug sprays rained down on him, coating him in a cloud of stinky that seemed to promise the doomsday of insects.

"That really hurt, you oversized knucklehead!" Ru groaned, rubbing his aching eye.

"Sorry!" Vaelan was taken aback. What kind of reflex was that? Why did he do that? "What did I do?"

"It's nothing, you silly goose. You just gave me a black eye," Ru said, sounding annoyed.

"Bro," Vaelan shouted, seeing Ru on the ground. He immediately bent down and grabbed his arm, pulling him up. "Are you okay?"

Ru put on a fake smile and said, "I'm fine. I almost became a healthy person. Thanks for ruining it."

Vaelan gave him a bear hug. "My brother! I thought you were a pervert!"

"Vaelan, if you don't let go, I'll turn you into a pincushion," Ru threatened, his voice muffled by Vaelan's iron grip. His ribs were protesting loudly against the unexpected bear hug. "Or maybe I'll just hypnotize you into thinking you're a squirrel."

"Okay, let me take a look at your eye," said Vaelan, stepping back. "Did it bruise or pop out?"

"Don't look," Ru shouted. He had a bad feeling about what had happened. This was about Clockmaker.

"I'll take a look," Vaelan said, and Ru bent down and slipped past him with a single step.

"But bro!" Vaelan called out.

Ru took off running, and Vaelan gave chase. The chase that started in the supermarket ended with Ru slipping through the traffic on the street and hiding in the shadows.

At last, Ru jumped into the garden of an apartment building and took a moment to catch his breath.

"Ha... ha... ha..."

When his heart rate slowed down a little, he angrily hit the wall with his fist, muttering, "That annoying little girl nearly took my djinn."

"What did you say?" asked a husky voice.

"Dji..." Ru glanced over his shoulder to see who was behind him. Given the chill he felt, it had to be that vampire. He was just about to make a run for it when he was grabbed from behind.

"Slow down, you damn brat," said the same husky voice.

The accent and the voice didn't match up with that masked maniac. Ru felt a bit of relief.

"Huh? What?" Ru replied in a relaxed tone.

"Give me the money!" the person demanded.

"If I had the money, I might hand it over," Ru replied.

"A bank card will do," the person behind him said, pressing the barrel of a gun into his back.

"Don't you think pickpocketing at noon is a bit silly?" Ru said in an even tone.

"Why would that be silly? You came right to me," said the husky voice.

"I guess I'll have to turn you to ashes," Ru said, chuckling.

"Turn me to ashes? I don't like jokes, buddy," said the bag snatcher, pressing the barrel even harder into Ru's back. "Hand over your phone!"

"I can't because it's broken," Ru said, thinking about his jinn and hoping it would turn the bag snatcher to ashes.

"You liar!" said the bag snatcher.

"Why don't you check my pockets? Can't you do that? You have the gun, after all," Ru said, in a reassuring tone.

"Good idea," the bag snatcher said.

"Yep," Ru said.

They let go of Ru's collar and checked the pocket of his jacket. "Where's your wallet?" the bag snatcher asked, clearly an amateur. As they moved towards Ru's pants pocket, their breath seemed to change.

They were either a girl or a pervert. Either way, it was clear they were an amateur. Ru was confident in his guesses. "In the inside pocket of my jacket. Will you undress me or should I undress?"

"Okay, give me it," the bag snatcher demanded.

Ru moved as if to take out his wallet but felt them pressing the barrel harder against his back. Ru took a deep breath and, in a calm but assertive voice, said, "You seem a bit inexperienced."

The bag snatcher snapped, "Cut the crap! Give it to me!"

Ru figured out who was speaking. The bag snatcher was a girl. First, he coughed, "Ahem!" and then he asked, "You're exactly who I need. Why don't you work with me?"

"Shut up!" the girl shrieked.

"I'll pay you a lot of money," Ru said.

"I told you to shut up!" the girl said, pressing the barrel even harder.

"Look, I don't want to hurt you. I just want to work with you," Ru said, trying to sound as charming as possible.

"I don't trust you!" the girl replied.

"Why wouldn't you? You don't know who I am. I can give you a chance. Maybe I can change your life," Ru said.

"I don't care who you are. I just need the money, okay?"

"You have an urgent need. Tell me what it's for because what's in my wallet might not be enough," Ru said.

"None of your business, just give it already!" the girl insisted.

The voice was very familiar to Ru. "Is it her?" he thought.

"Please, just give me the wallet! I can't take it anymore," she said.

"Alright then, take it," Ru said, holding the wallet over his shoulder and offering it to her.

The girl reached for it, but Ru said the name on his mind: "Dear Jenna."

The girl was startled. Yet she didn't stop and reached for the wallet.

Ru made a pivot turn like a dancer and held the girl and the gun at the same time. He then headbutted her hard.

THUD!

The girl passed out. Ru put the gun in his belt and noticed that she was using a mask to muffle her voice—a white rabbit mask.

"Ah, Donatella!" Ru said, crouching over her. His first move was to remove the mask. He was right—the face he saw was Jenna's.

Ru gently parted her lips and checked her teeth.

"Congratulations," he said, grinning. "You got your wish."

He immediately set his plan into motion. He grabbed Jenna by the ankles and dragged her into the sunlight.

He wanted to witness the process of a vampire turning to dust in the sun. But he also pondered, "Am I this evil?"

At one point, he said, "I'm not," and picked her up, advancing in the shadows. He went up without stopping by the witch's cafe. He laid Jenna on his bed and drew the curtains. Then he looked around for holy water, garlic, a cross, and such.

"Ah, something silver," he thought to himself. "The witch's room must have silver items."

In the end, Jenna woke up tied to a bed. The person watching over her was wearing a rabbit mask.

"Good evening," said masked Ru.

Jenna snarled, showing her teeth.

Ru showed a bunch of garlic and wagged his finger. "Tsk, tsk," he said. "That doesn't suit you, Jenna."

"You... I'll..." Jenna hissed, her eyes shining despite the setting sun. But her body was too weak to strain against the chains.

Ru asked in a peaceful tone, "Why are you stealing? Doesn't that seem beneath a vampire like you?"

"I need blood, you idiot!"

"Do you buy blood with money?"

Jenna turned her head in shame.

“You do this because you don't want to hurt people,” Ru said in a voice full of wisdom. "And you're a big animal lover. The last time you thought about going vegan."

Jenna nodded meekly. She seemed to have given up.

"Don't worry, I'll give you blood," Ru said, adding, "But I have a condition."

"What is it?" Jenna asked, struggling even to speak.

"You'll be my girlfriend."

"What?"
