[ Eva's POV ]
The alpha Night Dweller's growls echoed through the clearing, a chilling sound that sent shivers down my spine. Its eyes narrowed, and I could sense its calculating gaze, searching for any sign of weakness. But I refused to let fear consume me.
I had come too far to back down now.
I tightened my grip on the hilt of my sword, my knuckles turning white. My mind raced, strategizing on how to take down this formidable foe. I knew I couldn't rely solely on strength and speed; the alpha was too cunning for that.
Roar...
The creature lunged at me, and I rolled to the side, evading its attack by a hair's breadth. My heart pounded, and my muscles screamed in protest, but there was no time to rest. As the alpha recovered, I seized the opportunity, darting forward and driving my sword into its side.
"..."
Gritting my teeth, I twisted the blade, aiming for a vital spot. The alpha howled in agony, its claws swiping at me in retaliation. I managed to dodge the worst of its blows, but not without taking a glancing hit to my side.
Ughh...
Small thoughts flashed through my mind...
Keep moving.
Stay focused.
Don't let pain slow you down.
Kill that damned monster!
I disengaged, giving myself a moment to catch my breath. The wound on my side stung, but it was nothing compared to the adrenaline surging through my veins. The alpha's rage burned bright, and it charged again, its massive form barreling toward me.
In the blink of an eye, I sidestepped the attack, my blade striking the creature's hind leg. The alpha stumbled, but it quickly regained its balance, refusing to give in. I couldn't afford to make mistakes, and every opening I found seemed to close in an instant.
The alpha Night Dweller was relentless, its glowing eyes fixed on me with a mix of fury and hunger. I knew that I couldn't hold back; I had to go all out if I wanted to survive this final confrontation. My heart pounded in my chest, and a surge of adrenaline coursed through my veins.
As the alpha lunged once more, I leaped backward, narrowly avoiding its snapping jaws. With a swift motion, I swung my sword down with all my strength, aiming for its exposed flank. The blade connected, tearing through tough scales, but the creature's thick hide absorbed most of the blow.
Thud...
Damn, it's like striking a rock.
I knew I couldn't rely solely on brute force. I had to find a way to exploit its weaknesses. The alpha's eyes narrowed, and it lunged again, but this time I anticipated its move. I sidestepped and swung my sword upward in a sweeping arc, aiming for its underbelly.
Clang...
The alpha brought its claws down to parry my attack, and the impact sent a jolt of pain through my arms. But I didn't let up; I pressed on, engaging the creature in a deadly dance of blades. Each clash sent sparks flying, the metal singing in a symphony of battle.
The creature's movements were surprisingly agile for its size, and I found it challenging to find an opening. But I couldn't afford to falter. I focused on its patterns, looking for any slight deviation that could give me an advantage.
Grrr...
Another clash, and I managed to graze its shoulder. Black blood oozed from the wound, and the alpha roared in pain. I took the brief moment of distraction to deliver a swift kick to its hind leg, destabilizing it momentarily.
With a burst of speed, I lunged forward, my sword aimed at its neck. The alpha deftly evaded the strike, but I managed to nick its ear. It let out another enraged roar, and I felt a rush of satisfaction.
I was getting through.
But the alpha was far from defeated. It came at me with renewed ferocity, and I had to summon every ounce of skill to evade its attacks. We circled each other, each move calculated, and each strike executed with precision.
The moonlight bathed us in an eerie glow as our battle raged on. The clearing echoed with the sounds of clashing metal and snarls of fury. I could feel the exhaustion settling in, my body protesting each movement, but I couldn't give in.
I took a deep breath, steadying my nerves, and narrowed my focus. The alpha lunged once more, and this time, I feigned a strike to its head, only to redirect my blade toward its hind leg. My sword connected, and the alpha stumbled, letting out a roar of frustration.
But it wasn't enough. The creature's resolve seemed unwavering, and it pressed on with a relentless onslaught. I knew I had to do something drastic, something unexpected.
With a sudden burst of energy, I sprinted forward, closing the distance between us in an instant. The alpha didn't expect such a bold move, and it hesitated for a fraction of a second. That was all I needed.
I launched myself off the ground, somersaulting over the creature's massive form. In mid-air, I twisted my body and brought my sword down with all my might. The blade sliced through the back of the alpha's neck, severing its spine.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still as the alpha froze in place, its eyes wide with shock. Then, with a heavy thud, it collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
I landed a few feet away, my breaths coming in ragged gasps, and my body drenched in sweat and black blood. The battle was over, and I stood victorious against the last Night Dweller.
