Bab 2: Chapter 2: Magic Knights Test
Satoru smiled at them and then proceeded to register for the exams at the registration booth.
The magic knight responsible for registration asked, "What's your name? Show me your grimoire."
Satoru replied, "My name is Satoru Vermilion."
Upon hearing the name, the magic knight quickly stood up and bowed to Satoru. "Your Highness..."
Before he could continue, Satoru interrupted, "Don't continue. Here is my grimoire." Satoru then revealed his four-leaf clover grimoire.
Everyone was surprised to see it, especially Yuno, who was standing behind Satoru in line.
Satoru took his grimoire and headed to the exam area, surprising everyone with Yuno as well.
One of the applicants exclaimed in astonishment, "Oh my God, two people with four-leaf clovers!"
At the magic knights' exam site, everyone stood in the arena where birds gathered around those with little magic. Everyone noticed Yuno standing calmly with no birds approaching him.
One applicant commented, "There are no birds around him."
Another applicant, angrily, said, "That rural boy is the one chosen by the four-leaf clover?"
Another female applicant remarked, "A four-leaf clover grimoire? Really?"
Yet another applicant pointed, "Look over there at the white-haired guy with the eye band!" Everyone looked to find Satoru standing there, chasing the birds that were fleeing from him and trying to avoid him like a plague.
"Hey, hey, hey, this is the first step to becoming the next Wizard Emperor, Juno," someone said. Everyone looked to see Asta being attacked by birds.
Asta, with an angry vein popping on his face, shouted, "Leave me alone! What do I have to do to get rid of these birds?" Asta started running away from the birds.
While running, Asta collided with someone. As soon as the birds saw this person, they trembled in fear and fled.
Asta, foolishly, said, "I'm sorry for bumping into you..." only to be interrupted by the other man giving him a death stare. "Do you want to die, boy?"
Asta analyzed fearfully, "That look in his eyes... it's the look of a killer. And those muscles... they're not those of a wizard at all."
Asta foolishly remarked, "You look older than fifteen. What kind of trouble have you gotten yourself into?"
"You're really ready to die now," said the man, then grabbed Asta by the head and lifted him off the ground.
A young voice called out, "Oh, you're here, Yami. What are you doing here?"
Yami replied, "Relieving some misery from these kids."
One of the applicants shouted, "Is that Yami Sukehiro 'the Giant,' the captain of the Black Bulls, one of the Magic Knights' squads?"
Another voice from the crowd said, "They say there isn't a single sane person in that group."
A happy voice among the crowd exclaimed, "Hehehehe, wait for me, you cute birds!" The owner of the voice collided with Yami. Yami looked at the person to find a white-haired boy with an eye cover.
Yami, surprised, asked, "What are you doing here, boy?"
Satoru replied, "Oh, it's you, Gorilla."
A voice from the crowd commented, "He's done for."
The commotion was interrupted by a respectful voice, "Young examinees, we apologize for the long wait."
Everyone looked to see the Magic Knights' captains watching them.
One of the crowd said, "Great, we can see all of them."
Yami said to Asta, "Tsk, you were saved this time, boy. You better keep yourself alive," then turned to Satoru and added, "We'll meet again, Soleon."
Satoru replied, "Sure thing, Gorilla," then Yami jumped to join the other captains.
A voice among the captains declared, "I'll take the lead in this exam."
The crowd, in admiration, exclaimed, "William Vangeance, the captain of the Golden Dawn and the man closest to the Wizard Emperor's seat!"
William announced, "Descend, magicians." A giant tree root appeared in the sky, distributing brooms to all the examinees for them to fly on.
Asta and Yuno thought to themselves, "So this is the man about to become the Wizard Emperor?"
William continued, "We will test you in various aspects, and after we finish, we'll decide who we want to join us. Your first test is to use those brooms to fly."
One of William's followers demonstrated how to do it, then William continued, "Anyone who can control their magic can do this with a touch," then added, "If you can't fly on a broom, you simply aren't worth considering."
Everyone started trying. They all saw Yuno flying higher than everyone else, while Asta struggled to move from his spot.
William remarked, "But your nephew, Fuegoleon, has truly come to the exam."
Fuegoleon, defeated, responded, "He is stubborn and doesn't listen to anyone."
Jack said, "Koo koo koo, it's a chance to recruit a child as powerful as us. It's good you're not keeping him for yourself."
Fuegoleon replied, "Believe me, I didn't want him to take these exams. I wanted him to join the Crimson Lions to succeed me."
William looked at the sky to see a book without a cover flying there and saw Satoru halfway between his book and the ground. He said admiringly, "He's truly amazing."
Charlotte agreed, "You're right. Even the four-leaf clover kid isn't close to him."
The tests continued until the final test arrived.
The examiner announced, "Satoru Vermilion against a side character I'm not ready to name."
Satoru looked at Fuegoleon and smiled mockingly, causing a vein to pop on Fuegoleon's forehead. Fuegoleon, angrily, said, "I swear if I could touch him, I'd crush him now."
Satoru said, "It's time to play rough," then looked at the referee and asked, "If he dies because of his weakness, will anyone blame me?"
The examiner replied, "You won't qualify automatically."
Satoru muttered, "Fun killer," then smiled at the boy and walked towards him with his hands in his pockets.
The boy asked, "What are you doing? Why aren't you using your grimoire?"
Satoru replied, "Because you're extremely weak," then grabbed the boy by the collar and punched him in the stomach, causing the boy to foam at the mouth and collapse unconscious.
