Hinata was feeling discouraged for a simple reason.
Her younger sister, Hanabi, had shown an extraordinary talent for Gentle Fist over the past two months. Hanabi had mastered four of the main family's secret techniques: Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm, Rotation, and Great Rotation, leaving Hinata far behind.
If not for Hanabi's young age and limited chakra, Hinata feared she wouldn't be able to defeat her.
Of course, this wasn't surprising, considering that in the original series, Hinata couldn't defeat Hanabi either.
Compared to Team 7, Ino's Team 10 had progressed more slowly and steadily, in line with their original storyline.
As a result, the Ino-Shika-Cho trio's strength was likely among the weakest of the twelve young ninja.
Recently, with Konoha hosting the Chunin Selection Exam in collaboration with other villages, many unfamiliar faces wearing forehead protectors from other villages had appeared in Konoha.
These people were genin from other villages, coming to participate in the Chunin Exam.
Some had just graduated from ninja school, while others were seasoned veterans who had participated in the Chunin Exam multiple times.
After consulting with Shishou, Sakura, and Kiba, Kurenai-sensei also signed them up for the Chunin Selection Exam.
At the same time, Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata from Team 7, the Ino-Shika-Cho trio from Team 10, and the previous generation's Neji, Lee, and Tenten had all signed up for the Chunin Exam.
In Konoha, only those who passed the Chunin Exam and became chunin could continue to advance to jonin, a rule that even clan children had to follow.
Because the Chunin Exam was approaching, Kurenai, Kakashi, and Asuma gave their students a few days off to relax and rest.
Since it was rare to have time off together, Ino suggested they have a group dinner.
Although it was Ino's idea, the invitation was sent out in Shishou's name because he had the influence to gather everyone.
...
In the Konoha forest,
Shishou, Kiba, and Sakura carried the groceries to the riverside spot where they had previously camped and barbecued.
"Over here, this spot is better."
Ino, who had arrived early, waved to the three of them.
Beside Ino, Shikamaru was lighting a fire, looking bored.
Choji was preparing the food and setting up for the barbecue.
Soon, Sasuke, Naruto, and Hinata arrived carrying some items.
Seeing Shishou, Sasuke immediately dropped his things and eagerly ran over.
"I challenge you!"
Sasuke wouldn't have come to this dinner if it weren't to challenge Shishou.
Moreover, Sasuke had now activated his three-tomoe Sharingan, confident he could finally defeat Shishou!
Hearing Sasuke's familiar challenge, Shishou, Shikamaru, Sakura, and Hinata all sighed in unison.
Why does Sasuke never learn his lesson?
On the side, Naruto, seeing Sasuke challenge Shishou, glanced at Sakura and then brightened up, shouting at Sasuke,
"Sasuke, I challenge you too!"
With his newly increased strength, Naruto was determined to show off in front of Sakura and finally beat Sasuke.
Sasuke glanced at Naruto, annoyed, and said, "Don't bother me."
"What did you say? Do you want me to teach you a lesson?" Naruto rolled up his sleeves, glaring at Sasuke.
He just wanted an excuse to beat up Sasuke and impress Sakura.
Seeing Naruto join in, Ino's eyebrow twitched in frustration.
"Don't get angry."
Seeing Ino about to lose her temper, Shishou squeezed her hand, calming her down.
Holding hands with Shishou in front of everyone, Ino forgot her anger and blushed.
Hinata and Sakura, seeing their hands clasped together, bit their lips simultaneously.
After soothing Ino, Shishou looked at Sasuke and Naruto and spoke up,
"The Chunin Exam is coming up. It's not a good idea to fight now."
"How about this, let's have a competition to see who can catch the biggest fish from the river."
A duel was out of the question.
After all, Shishou had no habit of hitting his "sons."
Saying that, Shishou ran to the river, ready to catch fish.
He wasn't interested in any competition; he just wanted to slack off. He had slept in an awkward position in Ryuchi Cave last night and his back was sore.
"Don't run away."
Seeing Shishou run off, Sasuke immediately chased after him, determined to win this time.
Naruto, seeing Sasuke run off, followed suit.
Kiba, not wanting to be left out, also ran over to compete with the three of them.
Seeing the four of them run off, Ino frowned and pulled Sakura and Hinata towards Shikamaru and Choji to help prepare the food.
"What are they doing? Didn't we already get the food ready?"
Returning with firewood, Shino joined Shikamaru and Choji, looking at the others catching fish.
"Sasuke's usual challenge," Shikamaru explained without looking up.
"I see." Muttering to himself, Shino helped Shikamaru turn the firewood into charcoal.
Barbecue needed charcoal; otherwise, it wouldn't taste good.
On the other side,
Shishou sharpened one end of a branch to make a fishing spear. Standing on the riverbank, he focused on the water.
Swoosh!
Spotting a target, Shishou swiftly thrust the spear into the water, striking a large fish below.
A meter-long fish surfaced, bleeding.
Shishou's fishing skills left Sasuke, Naruto, and Kiba stunned.
"Shishou is amazing!"
Washing vegetables, Ino quickly voiced her admiration.
"Tch, what's so great about that? It's just a commoner's method."
Sasuke grumbled, annoyed.
Activating his Sharingan, he locked onto a target in the river.
After pinpointing his target, he swiftly formed hand seals, preparing to use a jutsu to catch the fish.
Chidori!
Lightning chakra gathered in Sasuke's hand, and he plunged into the water like an arrow.
Moments later, he emerged, proudly holding two large fish.
Sasuke's new technique left Shikamaru and the others stunned.
Seeing Sasuke's lightning-covered hand, Shishou felt a bit speechless.
"Sasuke, don't think you're the only one with new moves."
Seeing Shishou and Sasuke showing off, Naruto shouted.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
"Rasengan!"
With the help of his clones, Naruto formed a Rasengan in his right hand and charged into the river.
Moments later, Naruto emerged, disappointed, holding half a fish tail.
The big fish he targeted had been pulverized by the Rasengan.
