Bab 10: Oakvillage true Guild master and an old friend

After several days of travel, they finally arrived at Oakvillage. They walked to the Adventurer's Guild to settle in. Everleaf showed her guild master token to the receptionist and said, "I'd like to speak with Guild Master Braum. We need to talk about the Whispering Forest."

The guild staff nodded, then bowed and left. Shortly afterward, Guild Master Braum came out, a broad smile spreading across his face. "Oh, what do my eyes spy? If it isn't the elvish Guild Master Everleaf!"

Elara, Lilith, and Ella exchanged confused glances. "Guild Master Braum?" Elara asked. "But this was not the guild master we spoke with last time, the one who sent us on the quest."

Braum chuckled heartily. "Oh, that was my younger brother Bragg. He always calls himself guild master, even though he is only a sub-guildmaster." He laughed even harder now. "Even the guild staff here just go with it and call him guild master," he said, smiling warmly. "Well, well, let's talk in my office," he said at last and showed them into his office.

Inside Braum's office, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, filled with the scent of aged parchment and polished wood. The walls were adorned with maps and various artifacts, each with a story of its own. Braum gestured for them to take seats around a large, sturdy table.

"Now, let's get down to business," Braum said, his tone becoming serious. "Tell me everything about the Whispering Forest."

Everleaf began, recounting what she knew, then the discovery of the necklace, and the Ritual of Renewal that cleansed the mana poisoning. She explained why she was here, stating that she would enter the Whispering Forest with Elara, Lilith, and Ella. She also mentioned that they would first seek out the forest village to check up on the situation there.

Braum nodded and said, "That's a good idea. The forest has been much safer since the necklace was removed, but there is still some mana poisoning lingering in the air."

Then Braum asked if he could hear the story from the dragon. Lilith nodded and whispered, "Aurora of the Northern Light, can you tell Braum your story?"

"Yes," answered Aurora, and she began her story once more.

Aurora recounted her tale, her voice resonating through the room. She spoke of her time as a mighty dragon, her battle with the demon lord, and how she was ultimately trapped in the necklace. She explained how her awakening had inadvertently caused the mana poisoning in the forest and how the Ritual of Renewal was necessary to restore balance.

When Aurora finished, Braum looked thoughtful. "Thank you, Aurora. Your story is both tragic and enlightening. Understanding the past helps us deal with the present."

Satisfied with his questions, Braum looked at the group. "It's getting late. You should stay here at the guild's lodging. I'll set it up for you, so you can leave tomorrow morning without any worries."

"That sounds great!" Lilith shouted, her excitement evident.

Elara nodded and petted Lilith's head to calm her down. "Yes, that would indeed be a great help, Guild Master Braum."

Everleaf didn't say anything; she just sat and nodded along, her thoughts seemingly elsewhere. Ella, already bored from the lengthy story, was sleeping on a pillow.

Braum led them to the guild's lodging area, a cozy set of rooms equipped with all the essentials. "Make yourselves comfortable. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

"Thank you, Guild Master Braum," Elara said with a smile. The group settled into their room, finding it comfortable and welcoming.

As they prepared for bed, Lilith looked at Elara. "I feel like we're finally making progress. We're learning more about this world and our place in it."

Elara nodded, her expression thoughtful. "Yes, but we still have a long way to go. Tomorrow, we'll head to the forest village and ensure everything is okay. After that, we'll tackle whatever challenges come our way."

Ella, now awake, fluttered around excitedly. "I can't wait for our next adventure! There's so much to see and do!"

Everleaf, who had been quiet, finally spoke. "You all have a strong bond, and that will carry you far. Remember to trust in each other and in yourselves."

With those words of wisdom, they settled down for the night. As they drifted off to sleep, their thoughts were filled with anticipation for the journey ahead.

The next morning, they woke up refreshed and ready. They gathered their belongings and met in the guild hall, where Braum was waiting for them with an old friend.

"Good morning," Braum greeted them warmly. "Did you sleep well? I found a guide for you." He pointed to a goblin standing nearby.

"RURIK!" Lilith yelled in happiness, recognizing the goblin they had saved at the start of their journey.

"Oh, if it isn't my beautiful saviors," Rurik remarked with a smirk. "I was just in the guild this morning and heard from Braum that you guys are going back to the forest and planning on checking up on the forest village, Verdant Hollow."

"Indeed we are," Lilith said with a smile. "And I'm glad that you're here to guide us again!"

Elara and Ella also greeted Rurik warmly, pleased to see their old companion.

Braum watched the reunion with a smile. "Rurik knows the forest well, and he'll be a great help on your journey. The path to Verdant Hollow has changed slightly due to the mana poisoning, and having someone who knows the terrain will be invaluable."

"Thank you, Braum," Elara said, her tone sincere. "We'll make sure to complete our mission and return safely."

With Rurik leading the way, they set off from Oakvillage, their spirits high. The journey through the Whispering Forest was familiar yet different. The lingering traces of mana poisoning gave the forest an eerie, almost mystical aura. Despite this, the group pressed on, determined to reach Verdant Hollow.

As they walked, Rurik shared news from the forest. "The villagers have been working hard to keep the area safe and healthy. They've set up barriers and use protective spells to ward off the worst of the mana poisoning. But they've been eagerly awaiting your return, hoping you have a solution."

Lilith nodded, her determination growing. "We do have a solution. We just need to reach the tree where we found the necklace and prepare for the ritual." Lilith smirked.

Everleaf, walking beside Elara and behind Rurik and Lilith, added, "The Ritual of Renewal will cleanse the forest and restore balance. It's an ancient and powerful rite, but it requires all of our strength and focus."

Ella, fluttering around them, chimed in, "We're ready for this. We've come so far and learned so much. Together, we can do it!"

The journey took most of the day, but finally, as the sun began to set, they reached the outskirts of Verdant Hollow. The village looked peaceful, yet there was an underlying tension in the air. Villagers paused in their tasks to watch the group approach, hope and curiosity in their eyes.

The village elder, an old man with a kind face, greeted them warmly. "Welcome back, travelers. We've been waiting for you."

"Hello, Grimald," Lilith said, bowing lightly with a smile. Ella and Elara also greeted the village elder and introduced Everleaf to him.

"This is the guildmaster of Everwood. She is here to help out," Elara explained.

"That is good to hear," said Grimald, nodding and smiling at them. "Now, let me show you to your old quarters. Nothing has really changed there, so I hope you will still find it pleasant," he said with a smile and showed the way.

As they followed Grimald to their quarters, the villagers watched them with a mixture of hope and gratitude. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, knowing that these adventurers had returned to restore the forest's balance.

Once they reached their quarters, Grimald opened the door and gestured for them to enter. "Make yourselves at home. If you need anything, just let us know."

"Thank you, Grimald," Elara said, stepping inside. The room was just as they remembered—cozy and familiar. It felt like a second home.

Lilith looked around and smiled. "It's good to be back. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I feel confident we can do it."

Everleaf nodded in agreement. "Rest well tonight. Tomorrow, we'll begin the preparations for the ritual. It will be a long day, but together, we will succeed."

The group settled in, grateful for the chance to rest. They knew that the next day would be crucial in their quest to cleanse the forest.
