Months had passed since the world plunged into chaos. Society had deteriorated, with the strong preying on the weak as Honkai corruption spread like wildfire.
The global economy had collapsed, and once-predictable weather patterns had become erratic, making agriculture almost impossible.
Earth was slowly transforming into an apocalyptic landscape, with Honkai energy reaching dangerously high levels. Ironically, as the Honkai energy strengthened, so did the planet, becoming an even more hostile environment.
Kevin had spent his vacation researching his newfound abilities. Through his study of the karmic threads, he had discovered the meaning behind each color:
- Red : Sexual Love
- Pink: Familial Love
- Blue: Trust
- Black: Negative Feelings
- Grey: Neutral/Strangers
- Colorless: Newly Formed
- White: Acquaintances
- Yellow: Anxiety, frustration, unhappiness, and similar emotions
As his vacation ended, Kevin joined Bronya, utilizing the powers of the Herrscher of Reason and Death to reconstruct and enhance his body. Other scientists in the MOTH organization were equally hard at work, with Mei focusing on Selene and crafting another Key of Blankness for Kevin.
Vill-V had been engineering a multitude of devices aimed at stabilizing the planet, while Elysia, using her Abyss power, had found a way to increase the nutritional value of food, allowing people to eat less while sharing the excess with others.
Mobius had initiated Project SWARA (Subliminal Weaponization & Artificing Of Reflex Arcs), which aimed to enhance the muscle strength and neural response of underaged Mantis soldiers.
Unlike the canon . MOTH has more than 100 MANTIS soldiers, as Bronya could easily identify individuals compatible with Honkai beast factors.
Additionally, elite soldiers who couldn't undergo mantis were given a Honkai serum derived from the blood of the top MANTIS soldiers, enabling them to wield Honkai energy more effectively.
Despite their best efforts, the world was still crumbling. Disasters were on the rise, and Honkai beasts were claiming lives by the thousands.
But all hope was not lost. Thanks to the efforts of the core members of Mobius' lab and Eden, approximately one billion people were still alive and well-protected, out of a total world population of around six billion.
Refugee cities, though lacking compared to the main cities, were relatively safe and stable, with basic rations and necessities being supplied.
In a quiet lab of moth hospital, Kevin sat as Su, one of the world's top doctor and Kevin childhood friend took his blood.
"Your blood contains incredible vitality, Kevin. It heals even the most deadly injuries," Su remarked, carefully drawing another vial.
Kevin, watching the pink and blue threads that connected him to Su, smiled. "You can take as much blood as you need."
Su nodded but added with a weary sigh, "Even with your blood, the amount of medicine I can make is limited. This is my 47th day working without a break."
Kevin gives him a thumb up sprinkling a bit of salt on the wound. "Good for you, buddy. Work diligently."
Su sighed again, shaking his head. "I'm happy to see you haven't changed much, Kevin."
"Yes. Thanks to someone". Kevin muttered
And his demeanor softened slightly. "Come on, let's head to the meeting. Elysia really wants everyone there."
Kevin grabbed Su's arm, dragging him toward the door as Su protested half-heartedly.
I'm mentally tired. Su complained.
"Then consider this meeting your break," Kevin retorted with a smirk.
The meeting room was filled with the familiar faces of Squad 7.
Sixteen seats were arranged around a rectangular table, and all members were present: Kevin, Elysia, Aponia, Eden, Vill-V, Kalpas, Kosma, Su, Mobius, Hua, Pardofelis, Mei, Ato, Dystopia, Bronya, and Vita.
The atmosphere was tense as the discussion turned to the state of the world.
"With Vita's help, I've been able to discern the nature of the Quantum Sea," Mei began, her voice steady as she addressed the group. "Our tests indicate that the Imaginary Tree and the Sea of Quanta are in conflict with each other."
Vita, nodding in agreement, added, "We can use Quantum sea power to weaken the connection between the Herrschers and the Imaginary Tree."
Kevin leaned forward, his eyes narrowing with interest. "Are you making some new weapons that can harness the powers of the Sea of Quanta?"
Mei shook her head, her expression serious. "we made some changes to the Key of Infinity. It's been modified to channel and stabilize the energy from the Sea of Quanta."
Kevin raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "That's new. How effective is it?"
"It can destroy easily destroy a continent with its full power but it has the ability to make energy go haywire" . Vill-v explained.
"That's amazing " . Elysia said.
Mei continued, her tone grave. "We've constructed an even stronger barrier that can withstand several direct attacks from a Herrscher. We're also close to completing Selene, which will convert Honkai energy into heat, significantly dispersing a Herrscher's energy."
Vill-V chimed in, her voice brimming with confidence. "The work is nearly complete. We'll be ready soon."
Kevin then turned to Hua, his expression concerned. "What about Sakura?"
Hua hesitated, a flicker of sadness in her eyes before she replied, "We found Sakura, and while we assured her we wouldn't harm Rin, she refused to come back. She's determined to protect Rin on her own."
Kevin sighed, understanding her pain. "Let her be. Her only family has changed into something else. For now, she's better off where she feels she can protect Rin."
The others nodded in agreement, respecting Kevin's decision. The room fell into a brief silence, each member reflecting on the harsh realities they faced.
Suddenly, Elysia brightened with an idea, breaking the somber mood. "Hey, how about we give our group a name? It's kind of lame to keep calling ourselves Squad 7."
The room fell silent again as everyone pondered the suggestion, the gravity of their mission making the choice of a name feel significant.
Finally, Kevin spoke up, a small smile on his face. "Flamechasers."
"Soldiers who chase the fire of hope," Elysia added softly, her voice carrying a sense of purpose.
The name resonated with everyone, and they agreed unanimously. Kevin was appointed as their captain, with Elysia as vice-captain.
After the meeting, everyone returned to their respective duties, more determined than ever to protect what remained of their world. The weight of the world bore down on their shoulders, but the newly formed Flamechasers were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
The Next Morning:
Kevin awoke early, the weight of the previous day's discussions still lingering in his mind. He decided to take a hot bath to clear his thoughts. As he soaked in the warm water, allowing the heat to relax his tense muscles, he heard the soft sound of footsteps approaching.
The door to the bathroom creaked open, and Kevin turned to see Elysia standing in the doorway, a mischievous smile on her lips. "Mind if I join you?" she asked, her voice teasing as she slipped out of her robe and into the bath with him.
Kevin's heart skipped a beat as Elysia's warm body pressed against his.
Kevin swallowed hard, his resolve wavering as Elysia's touch sent a wave of desire through him.
"We shouldn't… you have a mission later," he murmured, but his protests were weak, and Elysia could see right through him.
"Come on, Kevin. Just this once… we deserve a little time for ourselves," she purred, her lips brushing against his as she closed the distance between them.
Kevin's resistance melted away as he pulled her closer, their lips meeting in a passionate kiss.
