After hearing Might Guy's words, Team 3 immediately frowned. They were here for this year's Chunin Exam, and Rock Lee felt he lacked strength and confidence. Out of concern for teamwork and their own doubts, Neji and Tenten chose to withdraw from the exam. However, they never imagined they would struggle against a student who hadn't even graduated or become a ninja yet.
Everything they knew about Yato came from Might Guy; they had never met him personally. Tenten couldn't help but ask, "Guy sensei, isn't this...?"
Might Guy waved his hand. "Don't doubt your teacher's words. If you can defeat Yato, not only will you be eligible for the Chunin Exam, but you'll also pass it!"
The three were shocked. After confirming their teacher wasn't joking, they turned their gaze back to Yato, sizing up this junior who had remained calm from the start.
"Since Guy sensei said so, let me try!" Neji broke the silence, fixing his white eyes on Yato with a provocative look.
Guy turned around. "Yato?"
Yato didn't immediately answer and continued eating his rice ball, not raising his head. His attitude seemed to bother Neji, who frowned.
"Please say something. After all, we are your seniors," Tenten said, looking dissatisfied.
Yato finally responded. "Leave. I don't want to hurt anyone, and I can't afford medical expenses."
Team 3 couldn't help but glare at him.
Even though they were still Genin, they were genuine ninjas who had experienced the real world for a year. They couldn't bear being looked down upon by a younger student who had never left the village or seen blood.
"Hey, don't be so arrogant," Tenten protested.
"Yato senpai, I must defeat you today!" Rock Lee added.
Both of them stared at Yato, ready to jump in and fight him at any moment.
"You can't even beat that failure, Hyuga Hanabi. What gives you the courage to say this?" Neji retorted. Unlike Tenten and Rock Lee, Neji was a true genius, having awakened the Byakugan early and becoming invincible among his peers. To him, Hanabi, who was second in class but suppressed by Uchiha Sasuke, was a failure. What qualifications did this boy, who couldn't even beat Hanabi, have to be this arrogant?
"Yato, as a man, you must not back down when faced with a challenge," Might Guy said, adding fuel to the fire. He had no intention of stopping the confrontation. He hoped Yato would accept the challenge to see how strong his student really was.
Yato looked at the proud Neji for several seconds before nodding. "Very well. Come on then."
"Seal of Opposition!" Might Guy acted as a temporary referee, standing between the two and speaking seriously. All Konoha ninjas valued combat etiquette, and even someone like Might Guy took it seriously.
"Lee, do you think Neji could lose?" Tenten asked quietly as they watched from under a nearby tree.
"No. While Guy often tells me that Yato is very strong, we've been on missions with Neji for a year. You know how strong he is," Rock Lee said confidently.
"That's right. I can't imagine Neji losing to a student who can't even be considered a ninja," Tenten agreed, feeling relieved.
"Start!" After forming the Seal of Opposition, Might Guy waved his hand to signal the beginning of the battle.
Yato took the lead, tapping the ground with his toes and shooting directly at Hyuga Neji like a cannonball. He didn't use any complex moves; he simply raised his hand and punched. However, facing this straightforward punch, Neji didn't dare to be careless. He raised his hand to block it, choosing to personally test the power of Yato's punch to analyze his fighting style and look for weaknesses.
Bang! After taking a solid punch from Yato and feeling his right arm go numb, Neji knew he couldn't fight head-on. But as he tried to dodge and create distance, Yato flashed to the other side and kicked out fiercely.
"Konoha Whirlwind!"
Neji had no time to dodge, so he crossed his arms to take the kick.
Bang! A huge force knocked him back several meters, leaving deep marks on the ground.
"Neji!" Lee and Tenten exclaimed.
In just one round, their class's most outstanding genius was swept away. It was hard for them to believe, even though Neji hadn't yet tried his best.
"With this speed and strength, few people your age can rival you. Your ranking in the Ninja School cannot be in the middle." Neji said, inwardly surprised. He suspected that Yato purposely hid his strength during the school exam.
Yato didn't answer and just kept looking at him apathetically.
"Don't want to answer? Well, it doesn't matter. It doesn't change the result—I will be the winner anyway." Neji formed seals with both hands, gathered chakra into his eyes, and shouted, "Byakugan!"
His pure white eyes changed, covered with hideous blood vessels. "Since you're friends with that failure, Hanabi, then I believe you should know these eyes very well! Don't give up too quickly, or this battle will lose its meaning!"
Neji loosened his hands, finally getting serious about fighting. He hated the Hyuga clan, Hyuga Hiashi, and his two daughters. He also hated Yato, who was Hanabi's friend.
"Pathetic." Looking at Neji, who had yet to experience talk no Jutsu, Yato couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. He wanted to end the match now, but out of consideration for Guy, he continued fighting.
"Is he really a student who hasn't graduated yet?" Tenten couldn't help but voice her thoughts.
The figures of Yato and Neji intertwined, making it difficult to determine the victor. This outcome shocked her. Neji was no ordinary student; he was the most exceptional genius of his generation in the Hyuga clan.
The Hyuga clan had strict rules: only those from the main family were qualified to practice the physical technique of rotation that complements the Byakugan. However, through daily observation and a few glances, Neji had learned it and the gentle fist from Hiashi and his daughters.
However, even a genius like Neji, with his activated Byakugan and fully focused on the fight, couldn't quickly defeat this younger, non-ninja kid.
"I told you, there are many types of geniuses," Guy smiled and said. "A ninja like Neji has a deep understanding. He can grasp most ninjutsu at a glance. He is undoubtedly an absolute genius. Although Lee doesn't possess Neji's talent, his resilience is remarkable. He is a hard-working genius who compensates for his lack of natural ability through sheer effort."
"Well, what about him? What kind of genius is he?" Tenten asked.
"Yato is probably both. When it comes to Taijutsu, his talent is greater than even mine."
During their conversation, something strange occurred on the battlefield. Yato took advantage of his speed to maneuver around Neji and kick him in the face, yet it seemed as if Neji had eyes at the back of his head as he hit at the acupuncture point on Yato's thigh without even turning his head, causing him to suddenly stop moving.
"Since activating my Byakugan, I have never been defeated in close combat, and you will not be an exception!" Neji said before launching his attack.
"Gentle Fist, Eight Trigrams, Sixty-four Palms!"
One palm! Eight palms! Sixteen palms! Thirty-two palms! Sixty-four palms! After sixty-four strikes, Yato was sent flying and collided with a tree branch.
"He won!" Tenten cheered excitedly, waving her arms.
"As expected of Neji, my lifelong rival!" Lee smiled in agreement.
But their happiness was short-lived, as Guy spoke. "Not yet!"
"How is that possible? After being hit by the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, his chakra should have been sealed. How could he still be able to fight against Neji?" Tenten couldn't believe Guy's words before turning her gaze toward Yato.
Unlike his teammates, Neji wasn't happy; he furrowed his brows tightly. With Byakugan's clear vision of Yato's chakra flow, he could see that Yato's circulation seemed unaffected by the sixty-four palm strikes.
"The Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist is quite disappointing," remarked Yato as he stood up and brushed himself off. "Perhaps a fake is just a fake. The sixty-four palms you stole from the real owner are merely the basics."
"How is that possible?" Tenten's eyes widened. "He was clearly hit by Neji's sixty-four palms."
Neji's frown deepened. The word "fake" was true, but it still made him uncomfortable.
"I guess it's time for me to be a little serious." Yato rolled up his sleeves and effortlessly removed the weights from his hands, casually discarding them.
Noticing this, Neji let out a scoffing remark: "Even without the weights, what difference does it make? With my Byakugan."
The moment the weights hit the ground, they created a loud boom, cracking the ground and causing dust to rise.
"You've got to be kidding me!"
