Bab 26: The Concern

Lexzandra wakes in the middle of the day, wincing as she tries to sit up. The sunlight filters softly through the drapes, casting a warm glow on the room.

Her body feels weak, and her head is cloudy, making it difficult to remember exactly what happened. She attempts to piece together the fragmented memories of the previous day.

Pain radiates from her bruises, and she feels a dull ache in her limbs.

The events of the alleyway slowly come back to her— the terrifying confrontation with the thieves, the overwhelming fear, and the unexpected appearance of Nikolai.

Her throat feels parched, and she instinctively reaches for the bedside table, hoping to find a glass of water, but it's empty. Her arm trembles with the effort, and she realizes just how drained she is.

The room is silent except for the faint sounds of the palace beyond her door. She takes a deep breath, trying to steady herself, but the simple act leaves her feeling even more exhausted.
