"Alright, so I'm dealing with a complete lunatic here," he muttered to himself, steadying his breathing.

A chilling laugh came from the mysterious woman as she stared him down, keeping the same distance as she circled around him, "What a nasty thing to say about a lovely lady like myself."

"Lovely, I'd hardly say that–" Blake retorted.

Just as the smart remark left his lips, he found himself instinctively leaning back as another strike aimed itself for his neck. It was chilling just how quickly the woman went from smiling and talking to lunging at him with her dagger; fickle and swift.

As the blade missed its mark, he watched the eccentric assassin spin around before flipping back with a small laugh of her own.

"Your reflexes are nice at least, decent movement. I like prey that have some fight in them," the woman remarked, bringing her blade by her lips as her tongue slid out, licking the steel.

For Blake, he watched the odd behavior while considering his own options against the assassin. There were a few problems gnawing at his mind already.

'I didn't bring my sword…That leaves me completely at a disadvantage against her blade. I hate to admit it, but I think this chick's too strong to be directly affected by hypnosis–she's a problem,' he analyzed.

In the dark library, he didn't favor his chances bare-handed against the skilled killer, finding himself having to think out of the box–and quickly.

"Can I get your name? I'd like to at least know the person who's going to kill me," he asked, trying to buy any time to think he could.

"Charlotte. I already know your name, Blake. So, let's continue our fun, yes?" The woman asked with a sly smile as her black-pearl eyes glistened off of the reflection of her blade, beginning to approach.

'Shit!' He thought, finding his attempt to buy time failing.

There was no option but to try what he had in mind as he found the assassin stepping towards him with nothing less than killing intent, holding his hands out to face the neighboring bookshelves.

"Fly off the shelves and strike her!" He yelled out.

"What are you–?" Charlotte asked.

The bookshelves trembled as the command from the man manifested in an unorthodox fashion: from both sides, books flew off of the shelves as if guided by hostile wind.

"Books?--" Charlotte said, having to stop her approach and instead evade the sudden storm of hardback novels.

It was a surprise to both the assassin and the cornered adventurer, finding the shelves emptying themselves.

'I had to adjust my perspective…To consider books as weapons, it worked,' he thought.

More than actually presenting a danger to the skilled murderer, it was a good distraction for the young man to slip away, running down the aisles of the library. As he rolled into a new section of shelves, he was swiftly reunited with the assassin as she flipped in with an exhale.

"I see! You're a mage of considerable ability, then! I've noticed mages are the ones who give me the most delectable screams as I cut them up," Charlotte remarked while sliding her tongue against her lips.

Blake responded, staying focused as he called a sphere of fire into his hand, "You know, your whole personality doesn't have to be being a freak!"

"I'll have fun cutting that tongue out as well," Charlotte said sharply, launching off of a quick step straight towards him.

He quickly held his hands out, yelling, "Shield me!"

A swarm of books flew off of the shelves, encircling the unarmed man in the form of a spherical barrier just before the assassin's dagger could reach him.

"I am getting quite tired of slicing up paper," Charlotte said with a smile, slashing at the shield of books.

"Yeah, well, that's the point," Blake responded, "Electrify!"

[Hypnosis successful.]

As the assassin continued striking away at the flowing books, the elemental command imbued the hardcovers with a surge of electricity.

"Ahn–?!" Charlotte let out, being served a sharp recoil as the sparks met her. "Lightning? A mage of elemental mastery, are you?"

"Something like that," Blake said, surprised at the effectiveness of the electrified books.

'If I had to guess, the only reason an assassin would be after me is this insignia. Is that what the warning I heard earlier was about?' He thought.

It felt as though the time for conversation was long over as he instead placed his focus on utilizing the books as his only weaponry.

"Strike her!" He commanded, pointing at the dagger-wielding woman.

All at once, the electrified books flew towards the assassin. It didn't seem to proc a further use of his hypnosis, instead seeming to have already gained control over the objects entirely.

"Quite the unconventional one you are," Charlotte remarked before jumping away, delving into the shadows once more.

For a moment, he tricked himself into believing the assassin may have retreated, though from what few interactions he had with her, he knew she wasn't the type to simply flee.

Into the darkness again, he had to keep himself readied as the killer held the advantage. It seemed as if she had night vision, not hindered in the slightest by the lack of light.

"Form a barrier!" He commanded with a wave of his hand.

[Hypnosis successful.]

The army of books carefully formed around him in a perimeter, stacking upon one another and coming together to form a closed off, small-scale fortress.

From behind the enclosed wall of paper and leather, the voice of the assassin came through playfully, "It's quite the novice mistake to take away your own line of sight with somebody faster than you, you know."

It was already more than apparent that the tactics used thus far were insufficient against the sheer agility and elusiveness of the assassin; he knew that.

"Completely focus–turn your reflexes up to eleven," he told himself. "Let yourself embody magic."

[Hypnosis super successful.]

Something about the words he gave himself flowed with a special meaning, opening his mind to new heights.

It felt like the barriers that isolated his thinking were swept away, leaving him free to innovate on the spot.
