Steve smirked as Peggy nodded, "Good point; if you could be able to do it, a huge gun suddenly in our hands might actually give us that edge against her.".
Steve hummed, "A stone gun would be efficient...Still,
looks like it's gonna be days of practice while on missions.", and Peggy kissed him on the lips, "Don't worry, you will do brilliant.".
Steve smiled gratefully, "Thanks, Peggy.", and the couple went back to relaxing and having fun for their last day of break here on New Year's Eve with children asking Steve to make stuff.
And so, 1944 came, and after hearing the news of Steve's new powers, the COs sent the couple off to break the German lines through Italy, with
Peggy using fireballs and fire spears, and Steve discovering that the sand animals and such didn't last beyond 3 hours while stone animals didn't last beyond 6 hours, with wood animals only lasting for 2 hours, and the ground animals lasting up to 4 hours, and finding out with specific orders, the animals went into army mode,
destroying equipment and all, working together for the next two months, with several missions.
With the war, Steve and Peggy knew that they would use a lot of energy fighting, so lots of food when they could, and Steve didn't bat an eye at
Peggy wanting to sleep in on weekends after missions, figuring that she's tired like he is, unknowing that their baby is growing quickly already to the development of 4 months yet staying small, and on missions, the Super Soldier Serum, the
Quantonium, and the X-Gene of Peggy, and the baby altogether is working together to protect the baby fiercely while Peggy is fighting.
And being developed quickly, the baby's gender is discovered to be female, and the combined power of
Peggy loves the baby already, determined to help it grow to full health, and much to their joy, the baby is powerful already, discovering that she can change size willingly, but only enough where Peggy is not noticing or suspicious, and that she found her
X-Gene which is invisibility and force fields, and she is strong enough to kick and move around, disguising them as stomachaches or gas for Peggy's sake.
Meanwhile, at the same time, the efforts of them and the combined Allied armies soon bore great fruit. On the 22nd of January, Clark launched
Operation Shingle that landed several divisions of the 5th Army at Anzio, behind the remaining German lines while Steve and Peggy helped punch the final holes and a breakthrough was achieved.
The defense buckled and the Allies ran fast to link up with the Anzio bridgehead and by the 4th of February, Rome had been liberated.
Peggy and Steve would help with a few more tasks as the US 5th and British 8th were now dashing northwards with the Germans unable to mount any true solid defenses, it was deemed that
Peggy and Steve's time in Italy was at an end and the armies would have to breach the Po Valley without them: which they would by April 1st.
In the meantime, the order came through... they would be heading back to England for the upcoming invasion.
Steve smiled as he saw Peggy almost skipping on her feet, wearing their casual outfits while holding their war outfits, blanket in a handy bag that was meshed up from fish nets and old tarps, the goodbye-gift from Italy.
"You have been homesick, huh?", Steve replied warmly, and Peggy nodded,
"Oh, yes, more than you'd ever believe! Oh, I can't wait to step back into good, old British soil, and oh, I have to show you everything...Maybe we can clean up London...And oh, I have to introduce you to my parents!".
"I think we'll certainly have time for your parents... but I get the honest feeling that clean up in
London might not be what they have in mind for us.", Steve chuckled.
"I know, I know, probably drills and all, preparing us for whatever the big plan is.
But I very much am looking forward to seeing Mum and Dad again and letting them meet you.", Peggy smiled.
"I look forward to that for sure.", Steve then sighed.
"Shame that Bucky's probably staying here though, I liked it knowing most of the time where he was."
Peggy squeezed his other hand, kissing his cheek,
"You literally knew him all your life, and so, you know that he can take care of himself just fine. After all, he 'rescued' you from getting beat up in those alleys, hmm?".
Steve nodded softly, "That's true. I will miss him, that's all.", with a smile, and Peggy smiled, reassuring him,
"We will see him again when he's done with his missions here in Italy. After all, transfers in regiments happen often.".
"I certainly hope so; at least they're moving again. I hear that despite what reinforcements the Germans are scrambling, it won't be enough if our forces reach the Po Valley.
Then it's heading on towards the French border in the northwest and the Ljubljana gap in the northeast.
I think Alexander and by extension, Churchill think we can sneak into Vienna through that route.", Steve smirked.
"Hopefully they can pull it off. Tricky terrain still once they reach the old Yugoslavia borders.
And at least Eris isn't with them; the Russians are once more trying to push so she's in the east again.", Peggy said.
"Next time we see her, Peggy, we'll get her. I promise.
We deal with her, then we'll probably be mostly safe from much of what the Germans can throw at us.", Steve replied firmly.
Peggy smiled as Steve kissed her on the cheek, reassuring her of that fact, and Peggy then noticed the
Thunderbolt coming up from the horizon, "There's our ride.".
Steve smiled, "Good timing. Luckily, the journey is shorter, though we have to fly the long way around than the straight way.", and Peggy nodded,
