Chapter 560: Klein's Probe (Part two)

"I don't enjoy interacting with the Church of Steam's followers who only know how to work without any sense of romance, and besides, I am a follower of the Goddess."

Klein casually found an excuse to brush off Hastur's suggestion.

"I don't particularly like the followers of Steam either," Hastur responded with a gentle smile.

Seeing that this method was also difficult to use to probe Hastur's true intentions, Klein continued to search through the stack of Roselle's diaries and pulled out another specially prepared page.

"Mr. Hastur, have you read any science fiction novels recently?"

"I haven't," Hastur replied, looking at Klein curiously, wondering what he was up to.

"I happened to have some free time to read a few. One of them is a science fiction novel that artistically portrays Emperor Roselle."

Klein began to explain, "In this novel, the author presents an interesting idea. He suggests that there exists another different space-time continuum in this world, where time flows faster than in our own and has already developed into a world a thousand years ahead."

"The author boldly speculates that the far-sighted and omnipotent Emperor Roselle might have traveled from that other space-time. Because that world developed more rapidly, Emperor Roselle could continuously push our world towards the future."

"In this science fiction novel, Emperor Roselle did not perish in the White Maple Palace but returned to his own space-time."

"In this Roselle diary, I discovered a magic circle for traveling between space-times. By performing the appropriate ritual, it might be possible to open a passage between the two worlds and move freely between them."

This science fiction novel was not something Klein made up himself. The sudden rise of Emperor Roselle indeed provided a great artistic image for future literary writers.

Many novels often mention the existence of Emperor Roselle.

The speculation about different space-times was not his own fabrication either; there truly was a group of people who created an association to study this topic.

What Klein did was merely integrate this information to create a semi-true, semi-false science fiction story.

Hastur's gaze followed Klein's pointing finger to the magic circle on the Roselle diary, and his expression almost broke.

He had no idea where Klein came up with so many probing tricks.

It was indeed a magic circle, and a summoning type at that.

A very handsome six-pointed star magic circle, which, when inscribed on the ground, could summon a light energy envoy.

Hastur looked very serious on the surface, but in reality, he was slowly recovering from the shock. The intensity of this was too much; he needed to take it slow, and his tense face was starting to stiffen.

Sitting across from him, Klein was explaining the magical properties of the circle while secretly observing Hastur's expression out of the corner of his eye.

Seeing Hastur's solemn face, deeply engrossed in examining every line of the magic circle, Klein couldn't quite gauge Hastur's thoughts.

Was he truly ignorant, or was he so cunning that he showed no flaws at all?

"Is this really a magic circle for traveling through space-time?" Hastur's eyes flashed with a hint of excitement and anticipation.

In terms of acting skills, he had trained somewhat and was not afraid of being tested with such tricks. Trying to probe him with this was undoubtedly underestimating him.

"Of course, it's the magic circle recorded by Emperor Roselle for returning to his homeland," Klein continued to lay verbal traps.

Hastur frowned slightly and said in a deep voice, "This wouldn't be a ritual for summoning some evil god or demon, would it?"

"..." Klein was silent for a while before sighing, "How could that be? This is a magic circle for returning to one's homeland."

He deliberately emphasized the word *homeland*.

"This diary only has this one magic circle and no other related descriptions."

"Yes, that's what I find troubling and regrettable," Klein said. "The detailed method for drawing the magic circle and the necessary steps should be recorded in another Roselle diary."

"Indeed, it's a pity," Hastur agreed.

With this matter settled, Klein took a deep look at Hastur, realizing that mere verbal probing would not yield results. He decided to change his approach and stay in this castle for a while, observing Hastur's daily life.

Details often determine success or failure.

Perhaps a seemingly insignificant habit or a slip of the tongue in a dream could reveal Hastur's true identity.

Klein's face resumed its smile, and the two continued to chat casually about Emperor Roselle until late afternoon.

The countryside sun seemed to linger longer, and it was only dusk with the sky painted in evening hues.

In Backlund, if the streetlights didn't come on in time, citizens would complain that the streets were too dark and they might accidentally fall into the river.

"Living in a city like Backlund for so long has made me miss many of life's beautiful sceneries," Klein remarked, gazing at the sunset outside the window.

"Yes, I often find Backlund's weather unbearable," Hastur agreed. "But aside from that, there are many things in Backlund worth remembering."

"I just left Backlund recently, so I won't be missing it anytime soon," Klein replied humorously.

After chatting a bit more, Klein remained seated on the sofa with no intention of leaving. Hastur understood that Klein intended to stay and slowly probe him.

Hastur called out to the butler, "Butler Neil, make sure tonight's dinner does not disappoint our esteemed guest."

"Oh, is it that late already?" Klein quickly stood up, glanced at the clock on the wall, and said with a bit of confusion and embarrassment, "Time flies when chatting with Mr. Hastur."

"I feel the same," Hastur smiled at Klein and stood up. "There's still some time before dinner. Let me take you outside for a walk. The evening scenery here is a beautiful painting that even the most famous painters can't capture."

"Sigh, living in Backlund for so long, I haven't seen what the evening scenery looks like in ages," Klein quipped about Backlund's weather.

"That's one reason I left Backlund to live here."

The two exchanged a smile and walked along a small path, enjoying the unique beauty of the countryside evening.

The golden sunset bathed the beech, oak, and maple trees in a golden hue, creating a picturesque scene.

Walking along a carefully chosen pebble path into the forest, they passed green lawns where gray-brown mountain rabbits played as if no one was watching. Further ahead, a clear stream flowed gently, with fish swimming freely in its waters.

The place was truly beautiful, a natural beauty that made one unconsciously relax.

"I'd love to stay here for a while," Klein said sincerely.

"Mr. Dawn Dantes, you are welcome to stay here anytime," Hastur replied.

Klein, waiting for this invitation, immediately said, "Then I'll take you up on that offer, Mr. Hastur."

Not even pretending to refuse, Klein was eager... Hastur silently mocked in his heart.

If I had refused, Mr. Hastur might not have mentioned it again, making it even more awkward... Klein justified his actions to himself.

After a short walk, they returned to find a sumptuous dinner prepared, and Sharon, who had not come downstairs before, joined them with Aisala.

"Let me introduce you, this is Mr. Dawn Dantes, a very wealthy and generous businessman," Hastur said with a smile, introducing Sharon and Aisala. Klein maintained a polite smile.

He couldn't help but feel that Hastur was emphasizing his wealth and generosity.

"This is my gentle and beautiful wife, Sharon," Hastur said, looking at Sharon, then at Aisala, "and this is my lively and lovely daughter, Aisala."

Wife? Daughter?

Klein was momentarily stunned. Although he had a premonition when Sharon appeared, he was still surprised that Hastur had such a grown daughter.

That would mean Hastur must be at least ten years older... Klein was shocked.

He also thought of another serious issue: Hastur was engaged to Miss Justice!

Was Miss Justice being cheated on?

Or did Miss Justice already know about Sharon?

Noble marriages are indeed complex.

Klein decided not to think too much about it and suddenly admired Hastur.

This was like living a life with cheat codes, winning in every aspect, somewhat like a version of Roselle.

Well, Roselle's looks couldn't compare to Hastur's.

After some brief introductions, they began to enjoy the sumptuous dinner.

The exotic wild flavors from nature, cooked by a master chef, were astonishing in every aspect.

Klein ate happily, almost forgetting his purpose for coming here.
