The storyline was predictable, the acting felt forced, and the characters weren't very engaging.
Uchiha Sogetsu watched Black Zetsu, who was trying to appear mysterious while claiming to know all the secrets. Sogetsu felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him.
However, thanks to him being a Beyonder of the Spectator Path, Sogetsu could maintain perfect control over his thoughts and emotions, allowing him to put on any front he needed.
At this moment, he allowed his expression to shift between confusion and shock, eventually settling on an air of deep suspicion and wariness directed at Black Zetsu.
His subtle shifts in facial expression didn't escape the keen eyes of the scheming Black Zetsu, who found them just what he expected.
As always, the Uchiha clan hadn't changed much—they were still easy to manipulate! A few well-chosen words were enough to turn these straightforward souls into mindless tools for his mother's resurrection.
This was true for Uchiha Madara, and now it is proving true for Uchiha Sogetsu as well.
Black Zetsu felt a sense of pride, satisfied with the course of action he had chosen. If he could pull Sogetsu into the fold, the "Eye of the Moon" project would proceed much faster.
"Why do you know the secrets of the Uchiha clan?" Uchiha Sogetsu asked, his voice low and full of caution. His body tensed, ready to strike at any moment.
"Secrets? Heh, that's just what you call them," Black Zetsu replied with a playful smirk, his demeanor calm as if he had no concern for Sogetsu's apparent hostility.
"As for how I know them, well, someone told me."
Black Zetsu might just be a clump of Yin Chakra, devoid of traditional combat skills and unable to use offensive ninjutsu techniques, but this also made him nearly impossible to kill, with a longevity that stretched over millennia.
Even sealing techniques had little effect on him; few could seal him completely.
It was this inherent resilience that allowed Black Zetsu to persist for so long, weaving his deceptions across the ages.
"Did someone tip you off?"
Though he already knew the answer, Uchiha Sogetsu followed Black Zetsu's lead, playing his role in the unfolding scheme.
"Do you want to know who that person is?" Black Zetsu dangled the bait, continuing his cryptic lines: "The secrets hidden in the stone tablet at Naka Shrine go far beyond the Mangekyō Sharingan. There's a secret that could turn the entire ninja world upside down. Curious to find out?"
Uchiha Sogetsu was becoming impatient with the game, knowing the plot yet still having to play along. If only there was a fast-forward button to skip the tedious parts.
He kept a look of intrigue on his face, despite his inner thoughts, and asked, "What's the secret?"
"Heh, answer my question first, Uchiha Sogetsu." Black Zetsu noticed he had Sogetsu's attention and smirked, feeling confident he was in control. He spoke slowly, "Are you craving power?"
Uchiha Sogetsu fell silent at those words.
Black Zetsu wasn't in a rush. He had all the time in the world, and patience was his strength.
"I want power," Sogetsu eventually responded in a strained voice, as if struggling with his own desires. "I want the power of the Mangekyō Sharingan!"
Excellent, he took the bait! Black Zetsu felt a surge of satisfaction, knowing that the Uchiha clan's ambitions were easy to exploit. It was a frustratingly effective method, time and again.
Black Zetsu's smile widened as he continued, "It's said that the Mangekyō Sharingan possesses the power of 'gods.' With just two unique eye abilities, you can alter the landscape with a single strike and even challenge entire major ninja nations. I can help you awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, but there's always a price. What are you willing to pay?"
That's right, everything has a cost.
To gain such immense power, there's always a high price to pay, right?
Uchiha Sogetsu gritted his teeth, his expression conflicted, brow furrowed as if he was wrestling with his conscience. It was clear that he was fighting a battle within himself.
"It's normal to have doubts," Black Zetsu chimed in, adding weight to his words with deliberate slowness.
"But you have to understand, the ninja world is harsh. It's survival of the fittest, and no one cares about right or wrong. If you're strong enough, you can change the rules of the game."
"But..."
Uchiha Sogetsu's eyes flashed with uncertainty, clearly swayed by Black Zetsu's words.
"Let me give you something to think about. Consider it a free bonus," Black Zetsu said with a grin, slowly approaching Sogetsu and whispering in his ear.
"You've heard the story, right? The legend of the Uchiha clan, the one and only Uchiha Madara, is still alive today."
Uchiha Sogetsu's jaw dropped. "What did you say? Uchiha Madara is still alive? How can that be?!"
"Curious to find out?" Black Zetsu saw the impact his words had made and pressed on. "It's simple. Come with me and see for yourself."
Uchiha Sogetsu's face went rigid, clearly overwhelmed by the revelation. This was Uchiha Madara—the co-founder of Konoha, a legendary ninja who could stand toe-to-toe with the First Hokage, the strongest of the Uchiha clan—a living legend.
Compared to him, the three legendary Sannin, even the five Kage, were like mere ants.
"Follow me." Black Zetsu's grin widened as he walked past Sogetsu, his voice tempting and inviting. "Don't you want to meet the legendary Uchiha Madara?"
"I..."
Uchiha Sogetsu took a step forward, but then hesitated.
"What's the matter? Are you too scared?"
Black Zetsu took a few steps forward, then turned back, noticing Uchiha Sogetsu still standing there. He decided to provoke him, saying, "If you're not up for it, you should give up now. No point wasting time."
"What do you mean?"
Uchiha Sogetsu was taken aback, momentarily unsure what to say.
"The Mangekyō Sharingan isn't a power for the weak or timid," Black Zetsu taunted, his voice dripping with sarcasone. The disdain in his eyes was almost palpable.
"Who are you calling weak?!"
Uchiha Sogetsu's anger flared, and the usual calm demeanor he maintained shattered like glass.
Haha, he really is young, so easy to provoke with just a few words, Black Zetsu thought. Sure, that calm exterior might fool the folks in Konoha, but it couldn't fool him.
Seeing through Uchiha Sogetsu's mask, Black Zetsu raised his fingers and said, "If that's the case, come with me. Let's see if you really have what it takes."
"Where to?" Uchiha Sogetsu asked, frowning. "I can't be away for too long."
"Don't worry, it won't take long." Black Zetsu's grin grew wider. "Uchiha Madara has been waiting for you in the Forest of Death."
Uchiha Madara! This guy's got some nerve, hiding out in the Forest of Death in Konoha while he's on the brink of death.
Uchiha Sogetsu felt a twinge of regret. If he hadn't shared this information with Sarutobi Hiruzen as part of the next stage of his plan, things could've turned out pretty interesting, right?
Thoughts raced through Uchiha Sogetsu's mind. He took a deep breath and nodded. "Fine, I'll go with you. Let's meet the legendary Uchiha Madara!"
