Bab 17: Chapter 17
On the barren land of Uzushiogakure, a figure emerges from the ground covered in soil.
This is Mamushiki Udon
A few hours had passed since he left the children in the cave and he finally reached the village of the Uzumaki.
The Land of Whirlpools is a small island, much smaller than the Land of Sunshine, with the Uzushiogakure located in the middle of the island.
Even though the island is small, the Uzumaki and the village thrive in this place, living peacefully on the island.
However, that's the past.
Now, the Uzushiogakure is just a barren land, a village destroyed under the might of the great nations.
'This is...their fate....'
Udon tries to convince himself but deep inside, he feels guilt as he sees the broken buildings and houses which are now just a pile of rubbles and dried burned wood.
Even though the Yokogakure, much like its allies, Konoha, didn't participate in the joint attack on the village.
Udon can't help but blame himself because the two villages are also allies.
'I'm sorry...for not doing anything...'
Tears dripped down his eyes as Udon kowtows to the ground, apologizing to all the deceased residents of the Land of Whirlpools.
As a ninja, Udon spends most of his time outside the village wandering around the world doing mission after mission.
And one of the places he visited is the Uzushiogakure.
The peaceful and lively country life of the villagers reminded Udon a lot about the Yokogakure which is why he spends most of his time here whenever he is outside the village.
'I'm sorry...Kanna...Isana...everyone..'
'I will make sure that the Uzumaki lineage will continue!'
Udon stands up, now posing a much-determined resolve as he heads toward a broken building where the previous kage building stood.
The place is messy with the furniture scattered all over the place while some are destroyed.
Udon as an experienced ninja, was careful in his tracks if ever the previous ninja who searched the place leaves some kind of trap.
After making sure it was safe, he took out a blue scroll from his pocket and placed it on the ground.
All of a sudden, the seal written on the scroll expands across the room, revealing a hidden staircase heading down.
This is the place where all of Uzumaki's inheritance was stored.
And Udon's mission is to bring all of this back not to his village, but to the Konoha.
'Allies my ass' Udon thought with despise as he cursed the Konoha in his mind.
Walking down the hidden staircase, Udon finds himself in a dark basement and before he can even take another step, dozens of sharp kunai shoot straight at him which he easily blocks using another kunai.
'This....!'
Udon's eyes widen in shock as he stares at the red-haired teenage boy in front of him.
"Who are you?" The Uzumaki boy asked with a kunai in hand, vigilantly observing Udon.
"...I am....Konoha's envoy." Udon introduced himself which wasn't a lie as the mission was issued by the Konoha.
The Uzumaki boy also lowers his guard after hearing the word Konoha, which everyone knows is an ally of the Uzumaki and the Uzushiogakure.
"We're safe...EVERYONE, WE'RE SAFE!" The boy yelled happily to the other more uzumaki hiding in the dark.
However, Udon shook his hand as he noticed the naivety in the kid, blindly trusting Udon and Konoha.
Fortunately, not all the Uzumaki are like him as some are skeptical about Udon's agenda until someone recognized him.
"...Lord Udon?" A kunoichi with red hair much like her peers that barely reaches her neck recognized Udon and so did he.
"Kanna?...is that you??" Udon asked with a trembling voice.
"Udon-san it's you!" The girl named Kanna rushes toward Udon, hugging him tightly.
"I...I'm glad you're alive.." Udon cried and said as he hugged the girl back.
Udon knew Uzumaki Kanna once when he was out on a mission in the Land of Whirlpools where he saved the poor girl from the mercenary bandits who wanted to sell a Uzumaki child for a hefty price.
That was ten years ago,
And now, the poor girl has grown to be a beautiful kunoichi as she stands in front of him.
With Kanna around, Udon's mission became easier as she introduced him to the other members of the Uzumaki clan.
"Everyone! This is sir Udon from the Hidden Sunshine!" Kanna introduced Udon to the others making his job easier.
More and more members of the Uzumaki clan come out from the shadows as they observe the newly arrived ninja.
"What? Village of the Hidden Sunshine? I thought he was from Konoha?" The boy who previously attacked Udon was confused.
Fortunately, Udon was able to fix the misunderstanding with some explanation.
This interaction makes it easier for Udon to gain the trust of the members of the Uzumaki clan as Kanna explains their circumstances to him.
It turns out that when the Uzumaki realize they are being attacked by the other nations, they hide the children and elderly here in the basement along with their clan's treasure.
A total of thirteen children of varying ages, and three uzumaki elders, all of whom are experienced ninjas as they are the ones entrusted with protecting the children.
'They left three jonin to protect the children huh, sigh, I really like Uzushiogakure.' Udon thought as he sighed, sad that such a village no longer exists.
'At least, not yet'
Unfortunately, Udon won't be able to rely on the three Jonin elders who suffered from starvation inside the basement.
After all, a month had passed since the siege in the village started and it was also around that time they were locked in this place.
If not for the Uzumaki blood flowing in their veins, the eighteen Uzumaki members might even die from starvation.
"Udon-san how's the fight outside? Did you see Isana??" Kanna asked cheerfully,
Unfortunately, Udon shattered her hope as he shook his head. Even when Udon was searching the pile of rubbles, he never saw any of the deceased bodies of the Uzumaki, much less Isana.
After all, Uzumaki's genes are highly coveted by the other village and they can't wait to do experiments on it.
The smile on her face disappears and so does the color on her face, turning pale as her legs weaken, causing her to fall to the ground.
