Chapter 87: A Demigod in the Exhibition Hall
The security measures at the Roselle Memorial Exhibition were extensive. Not only were there many visible security personnel, but Alice also keenly identified numerous extraordinary individuals among them.
Alice blended into the tour group, following the guide into the next exhibition hall titled "The Tender Side of Roselle." However, she suddenly stopped at the entrance, her spiritual senses screaming. The crowd behind her, unaware of her hesitation and slightly trembling body, continued to follow the guide. Alice stumbled, instinctively reaching out to steady herself.
Finding herself in the center of the crowd, she accidentally grabbed the girl next to her. The girl looked at her quizzically, but before Alice could respond, she lost her balance again.
"Are you alright?" the girl asked, concerned, as she helped steady Alice. Noticing Alice's pale and frightened expression, she pressed, "Are you feeling unwell?"
"I..." Alice tried to explain that she was fine, having simply been startled by the unexpected presence of a demigod in the hall. But before she could finish, the girl called out, "Hey, stop! Someone here isn't feeling well!"
All eyes turned to Alice, including one gaze that felt as heavy as a mountain. She stiffly turned her head towards the source - the demigod.
The demigod stood near a display case towards the back. Alice couldn't make out the contents of the case due to the crowd, but she could see the figure's face partially obscured by a veil and a black, old-fashioned soft hat. The demigod appeared to have chestnut-colored hair, a proportionate build, and was quite tall, wearing a yellow, girlish cupcake dress. The outfit seemed oddly mismatched, but Alice reminded herself not to judge the fashion choices of a demigod.
As her spiritual senses calmed, Alice briefly made eye contact with the demigod before quickly looking away. She steadied herself and smiled apologetically, "I'm fine, I just got bumped accidentally."
The tour guide, still concerned, asked, "Are you sure you're alright, miss?"
"Of course," Alice replied calmly, aware of the demigod's gaze. "Please continue. Don't let me hold everyone up."
Though still a bit pale, Alice appeared composed. The guide, after observing her for a moment, addressed the group, "Alright, let's continue. Everyone, please be careful not to bump into others!"
A scattered chorus of "okay" echoed through the crowd.
The incident passed, and Alice retreated back into the group. The demigod's gaze soon shifted away.
"This is the first love letter written by Emperor Roselle, and this is his first love poem, 'When You Are Old'..." the guide explained, pointing to a manuscript in a display case.
Alice, her interest in the tour rekindled, glanced at the manuscript with a conflicted expression. If she remembered correctly, the author of this poem never ended up with the object of his affections...
As the tour continued, Alice followed along, her emotions fluctuating between amazement at Roselle's achievements and bemusement at some of his choices. The demigod's gaze occasionally swept over her, causing her to stiffen momentarily.
Alice continued to observe the exhibits, including children's textbooks and toys invented by Roselle. Some items, like building blocks resembling Lego, sparked familiar memories and prompted her to silently question the emperor's originality.
As they approached the display case where the demigod stood, Alice noticed a chess-like game that bore a striking resemblance to Chinese chess. She mused on the apparent cultural crossovers, trying to reconcile her prior knowledge with this new information.
Lost in thought, Alice was startled when a voice suddenly asked, "You seem to recognize these items?"
